I cannot imagine a more serene, authentic, inviting and hospitable hotel and staff that mirrored the same. Everyone from the owner, to the front desk, the restaurant staff, housekeeping and gardening - were remarkably wonderful.
Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful with several appealing options! The bar is a fantastic throw back in time, well stocked and wonderful to share a drink in!
The grounds are impeccable, manicured yet very homey. The rooms and buildings are rustic and so welcoming. There is so much history and the hotel has been preserved beautifully. It’s clear that the owner and staff take great pride and care deeply about their place and their guest’s experience.
We will definitely return!
The best thing about Hermitage is the cozy bar and Shawn who was friendly and helpful. Lady at the front desk, not so much. Almost never on duty and gives you the look that says, "what do you want? you're bothering me." The food in the restaurant was expensive and mediocre. We only ate dinner there once and won't again. Bananas and Luna are far better for the same money. The pool was nice, especially with a water aerobics class. The rooms are cute but not air conditioned, so we ran a noisy fan all night. We loved the main house, a museum of island life from the past.

The Hermitage is unique and rustic, it takes you back in time. I was able unplug myself and relax. I especially enjoyed the Wednesday pig roast. I put my meals on my room and didn’t have cash to tip. I ask to have additional money added to my bill at checkout. I hope it was received.
The Hermitage is simple beautiful. It is one of those places that has real soul. From the beautiful historical living and dining spaces to the very comfortable room we cannot fault this lovely boutique hotel. The bed was comfortable and it had excellent mosquito nets . The shower provided good pressure and a choice of hot or cold. The staff were simply brilliant , they cannot do enough to make one comfortable but they do it in a low key fashion so one feels looked after but they do not invade your privacy . The pool is gorgeous and is located in beautiful tropical gardens.
The food was simply delicious from an excellent breakfast with a wide choice from muesli with home made yoghurt to full cooked breakfast. The lunch menu provides a choice of salads, sandwiches or main meals. The evening meal was excellent from Mahi-mahi to pasta dishes and on Friday really delicious thin crust pizza from their pizza oven .
The Hermitage is a peaceful haven where one can recharge and recover from our modern day world. Because it is located in the foothills of Nevis one is woken to bird song and in the evening troops of monkeys come down to play and feast in the trees surrounding the property. It is one of the oldest remaining buildings in the Caribbean and is finished with lovely antiques . A well stocked library and gentle classical music assist to make it a lovely escape . We had a wonderful stay in early October. Thankyou
The property is spectacular. You are truly out in a natural setting. We had a small cabin, and it was perfectly maintained. Breakfast included, and it was excellent. Host and staff took great care of us.
Run down, dark, disappointing. Beautiful grounds but they not make up for the ruin of a room. Broken ceiling fan, tears in the mosquito net, large gaps in exterior walls. No deck chairs. Leakes from the shower, fridge and roof. A rooster beneath our window pre-dawn, critters in the wardrobe. Hearing our polite (solicited) thoughts on the room, owner Richie's unapologetic response was 'We don't normally use that room, you should have booked direct.' Noted, but at full rate, unappreciated.
Good food, lovely guests, gift shop worth a visit.
We stayed at several properties on Nevis at the same price point and those rooms were far superior for value and condition. We were relieved to move on after two sleepless nights. Perhaps other rooms are in better repair. Are you feeling lucky?
Love this beautifully maintained and restored historical hotel. Traditional influenced meals and the character of this property makes for a unique experience quite like no other. Great staff that make you feel like family is such a lovely touch. One of the most fascinating, unique hidden getaways I’ve wver visited. I truly loved our third visit and can’t wait to return.
hesitated to write this review as I'm not sure it will do this place justice. You are greeted at reception by the owner, spend the first couple of hours being totally amazed and excited and taking everything in and then suddenly feel completely at home. We booked a hillside room but ended up in the little yellow cottage by the pool - twin gables. We had a front and rear balcony - the latter being enclosed completely by mosquito netting which meant we could sit out at night without being eaten. We quickly got the hang of the hammock and were charmed by the four poster bed and antique furniture. Views uphill were towards the mountain, and downhill across the gardens and the wonderful planting (the botanical gardens were just up the road but we found that there was so much of interest right on our doorstep). We watched hummingbirds in the morning and monkeys in the afternoon and listened to the tree frogs in the evening.
The food here is rightly famous. At breakfast, we tried the french toast which was lovely (but a little sweet for us in the huge portions served) and enjoyed the pumpkin pancakes and local fruit juices enormously. Dinner in the evening is expensive but good quality. If you can only splash out on one meal do the west indian buffett on a wednesday night - we spent the day relaxing around the property and watching the pig cook, but actually the highlight of the 15 or so dishes was the rabbit pie.
The main house was open to residents throughout the day and evening.
You stay in cottages scattered around beautiful peaceful grounds. The owner and all the staff are always so friendly and helpful. The food is delicious. Definitely a place to come back to.
