Don’t delay by reading my review! Reserve this place NOW!
Don’t delay by reading my review! Reserve this place NOW! Located outside Chania at the village of Sternes this is a great place. A traditional building capable of accommodating six and maybe a couple of children, it is enclosed by a walled courtyard. Plenty of room to relax or cook and eat outdoors. There is even a walled garden with 15 or so trees! We used the oranges for freshly squeezed OJ every morning. The property has a manor house feel to it; you close the huge gate, and you think you are transformed in time (but you still have all the modern amenities! The famous Marathi beach is about 2 miles away, a great place to relax by the sea. The owners, Giorgos and Tasoula are great! Giorgos suggested a couple of local taverna’s which had delicious and reasonably priced food. At the end of our stay Tasoula gave us about 20 or so kaltsounia (homemade fried spinach and cheese pies) as well as some local honey. Their hospitality, the beaty and convenience of their property should make this a must for anyone visiting the area.

Big charm in a small town
The Villa was definitely large enough for all eight of us. It had a lot of charm and character and that was the reason for choosing this villa. The outdoor area was exceptional with several seating areas and an orange and lemon grove which the kids picked fresh every morning to make orange juice and lemonade. Another benefit was the location was literally five minutes from the airport which was a big bonus for us. The town itself was not very touristy but we ate at the couple of local restaurant a few times and the food was both fabulous and affordable. In fact, all of the food in Greece was both fabulous and affordable. (Especially the Greek salad with soft feta cheese) yum And how about the Greek yogurt with honey? Heavenly. The closest beach is Marathi Bay which is a five minute drive. It is quaint and quiet, and yet has several restaurants on the beach. We ate dinner at the one, all of us choosing seafood, and it was great. The hosts own one of the restaurants on that beach, as well as another property for rent. Finally, the hosts. George and Tasoula were AMAZING hosts. George in particular gave us different suggestions and was at the airport when we arrived. We had reserved 2 cars at separate locations, but when we got there, they would not rent to us bc we did not have international licenses. George even tried renting it under his name, but they wouldn’t let it go. We were able to rent through Kyden Rentals , which is located right in the airport. They didn’t require the international license bc they were insured for it. Whatever that means but we didn’t care, we just wanted a vehicle. Back to George. He was always a phone call away or an email away, and came by several times. Tasoula dropped off a delicious chocolate cake for us one day. They were both exceptional. Thank you Georgeoand Tasoula. Hope to see you again some time soon. We would definitely return.

Lovely house, lovely family
We are a family of four (a couple with two young boys, ages 6 and 1), and we stayed at Tasoula Patrelaki in the first two weeks of May in 2018. Simply put, the house was great and very suitable for our family. The house easily has room for two families, there are three large bedrooms, one of which has mezzanine with another double bed. The house is really great! Very cosy rooms, well furnished and comfy. The house is easily the best looking house in the village. The selling point of Tasoula is the garden, however! When we arrived in the early evening, I couldn't believe my eyes, as the garden went on and on. It is actually more like a small village square, with several places to enjoy the sun or escape it in the shade. And as you are visiting Crete, chances are that you will spend most time outdoors, so a nice garden is a definitive plus (especially in our case with two small children, it is great to have a safe, enclosed environment where nothing can happen). The garden has some fruit trees, which is great for making juice in the morning (you should, because otherwise the fruit goes to waste): Three lemon trees and one orange tree. The village of Sternes itself is nice and sleepy. The mini market is well stocked, and operated by the helpful Sophia, whose family has a restaurant across the street where we had some take away food (the patrons assured us that it was the best Cretan food of the island). The beaches were also sweet and low-key, at least when we were there. Loutraki is very small and hidden, Marathi is somewhat bigger, but still cosy. Some nice restaurants are at the beach where you can get your coffee or have a nice lunch or dinner. One of the bars is operated by the family that owns the Tasoula Patrelaki house where we stayed in. The family is very sweet and welcoming, and very eager to have us taste the good Cretan life. Several times they surprised us with some delicious traditional Greek cooking. Summarizing, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Tasoula, and would certainly love to visit it again in the near future.

Charming and comfortable
We are an older couple who travel frequently. It takes a fair bit to rouse us from our usual complacency with our surroundings but this time we were delighted. Out host, George, was hospitable and generous with his time; he is very proud of the house and the upgrades he and his wife have put into it - especially the hand designed mosaic floor on the the ground level. His suggestion for a place to eat on Good Friday when almost everything was closed was bang on. He went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable and able to access the things that interested us, even to the point of explaining how Easter celebrations would be different in the town church than at a nearby monastery. On Easter Sunday he came over with his wife's freshly baked Easter bread and traditional cheese pies! They were delicious. He even explained the Holy Saturday bonfire and the incineration of an effigy of Judas Iscariot which we had thought was an effigy of a Turk. It's always a good thing to clear up those kinds of misunderstandings! The garden was a treasure and the house was both interesting and comfortable. It is however an old house and it has some quirks. Be prepared to accept an unusual bathroom! (The other bathroom is more ordinary.) If you get cold, there is no thermostat to turn up but there is a fireplace and seating in the kitchen along with a supply of firewood. the beds are comfortable and the house is spotlessly kept. The town is just a few minutes from the airport and after the Easter weekend when things were quiet we were "treated" to frequent airforce flyovers which were noisy. That may be the result of political tensions between Greece and Turkey but I expect the training exercises are frequent even when there is less political squabbling. The town itself is not a destination but George will tell you where to find whatever you need and Chania is only 20 or so minutes away. Despite not being a vacation destination Sternes is an interesting place for urban Canadians and northern Europeans who are not used to seeing things like artichokes and other more common vegetables growing in the front of houses. We recommend the drive down the gorge to Theriso or the drive around the Amari Valley where in the late afternoon you will see large herds of sheep and goats on the road being herded by shepherds back to the fold. All in all it was a wonderful place to stay and we hope to return soon. Karen and Tony, Calgary, Canada

very very nice
The house is an extremely nice villa within a Greek village. The amazing thing is that we could enjoy the fact that we were within a peaceful and picturesque village with no tourist (I think we were the only ones there as far as we could see) while also being only 3 minutes drive away from the beaches. It's also 30 minutes away from the old port of Chania where the crowds are much more important; but it's very well preserved and has many restaurants. The house itself is extremely comfortable and spacious. The most amazing feature is the garden. The house is within a "Venetian" style garden with both places to relax and fruit trees. We ended up pressing our own orange juice from the garden trees. There was more than enough for our all stay. The house has everything we needed: we ended up cooking a few times even though the local food is both amazing and very affordable. Our host was more than helpful and introduced us to people in the village. They also have a restaurant on the beach that has one of the best food we had in Greece (and we had a lot of good food in Greece)! We felt very warmly welcome. Thanks! We highly recommend the place.

A Cretan dream home and more...
Upon walking through the magnificent wooden courtyard gate we felt the atmosphere of Crete. The large courtyard has beautiful stonework with fine craftsmanship and plenty of cozy comfortable areas to share with family. We especially enjoyed the abundance of citrus fruits that hung on the many fruit trees. The house Is beautifully constructed and includes all the modern conveniences we wanted. The furnishings and linens were high quality and new. Best of all there are beautiful beaches minutes away. The small town was very traditional, with winding street and small markets, shop and cafes. Our hosts were very friend and accommodating . Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us and making it a wonderful holiday for my family.

Owing to the Greek air traffic control strike we were forced to cancel our holiday. We would like to thank the owners for the generous refund they gave us.

Very nice facility at all.
It’s not easy to find any negative side of Villa Tzivaeri. Firstly the house is very clean and comfortable for two families. There is everything what you need inside even the washing machine and Co. The fixture of the kitchen is also good especially if you need to upgrade your breakfast with fresh orange juice, you need only to take available machine and spend 2min. to harvest fruits in your own garden of orange trees… delicious. The real highlight is the outdoor space a perfect place for kids and parents with enough place to enjoy the evening. The last but not least very nice and helpful host! Jorgos, Dimitri and Maria (Tasoulas parents) just natural and always ready to support you, to make your holiday more comfortable. I can strongly recommend Villa Tzivaeri. BR Michal

Simply Perfect!
We spent 14 wonderful days in Tzivaeri villa in the second half of August. Everything was perfect and now it is difficult to find the right words to explain the emotions we felt. Kindness, courtesy, food...we could not hope for a better staying. Maria, Dimitri and their big Metazu mas family took care of us, offering special traditional dishes directly at the taverna and also brought them to our villa. Giorgos and Tasoula gave us relevant information for visiting beaches and places around. Apostolis was so kind to come with us to Chania for buying the most delicious meat and fish. Marathi is very relaxing: beach is not crowdy and windy, sea is always calm and warm, and tourism is not roudy. Notwithstanding there are wonderful beaches in the surroundings, we think Marathi is the best one. Villa Tzivaeri is beautiful and confortable for two families. It is a house with an ancient style and magical atmosphere. It is close to Chania airport so it is easy to reach (no airplane noises). You don't really need a swimming pool to enjoy your time there! We stronlgy recommend Villa Tzivaeri to everyone who wants to spend a splendid holiday in Crete! We will go back soon! From Rome with love
