I’ve been going through VRBO for over 15 years. I am going to give a review that is not positive, and the owner is going to respond, and I can’t refute what he/she has to say (no avenue on VRBO) so, you can trust this review, or not. This is my first partially negative, but honest review.
The house on Caye Caulker is lovely, comfortable, well equipped, and has an absolutely amazing view! However, their representation of this property is not accurate or honest, which is not acceptable if you are traveling to another country for the first time. Let’s start with:
#1 “The seaside path to the home is very scenic and fun for bikeriding….” NOT!! This is a mile and a half of pot-holed barely-one-lane dirt road through a very “stinky” swamp, with NO “scenery”. So, you will require golf-taxi service to and from property ($5 US/person one way, so as a couple it’s $20 US for transportation each day, roundtrip).
#2 “Eco-Friendly', solar powered waterfront property”.
We ran out of power EVERY day even though we were gone on excursions and off the property every day till about 7 PM. BYW, that means all fans, lights, refrigerator,, charging for cell phones, laptops, etc. and the only power was ONE flashlight in the livingroom. They don’t even provide battery charged lanterns! One flashlight! Here is the response from the owner, after two requests for help:
"Hello James, Don't know where you live or your time zone, but at 10 PM Belize all power went out in the house. So, I'm using my phone as a person hotspot to let you know this. I called Ana to see if there are backup lanterns and batteries anywhere, but she said no. I've looked around and have not even found candles. Hmmm, not so good. So, there is one flashlight in your house, and we have our phones, until they run down. Hopefully, power will magically come on, as it does when you're on the grid, but that seems pretty far-fetched. We will keep frig closed, so hopefully nothing will spoil. I look forward to hearing from you. In the dark, Jean & Toby & some new couple downstairs that I have not yet met"
“Good evening Jean, I spoke with Ana and our solar technician is still on schedule to come check out the situation. And, yes, Miss Ana did mention that she spoke with you last week about the importance of not leaving fans and/or lights on when you leave the house. Let’s touch base again tomorrow. Thank you. Kindly yours, James".
