Charming home with excellent location
Great layout, loved the location but found some of the amenities in the home not to be up to the price per night. Better stocked kitchen, two ply toilet paper, larger towels, etc.

Living Out My Midcentury Dreams
I’ve stayed at a lot of homes in Highlands over the last 24 years and this one was my favorite. The design and decor was just as chic as it looked in Southern Living. It was also much larger than than I expected. The home sits on a very private, large piece of property with all the pretty plants, flowers and trees. It wasn’t missing a thing— not even in bathrooms, kitchen or the laundry— absolutely perfect. And it smelled good! We hope to come back next year with our children if it’s still available. I still cannot believe Whitney allows other people to stay at this place because it’s SO unique and precious. Consider yourself extremely lucky if you ever get the chance to stay here.

Perfect girls weekend
We had 6 women and a 3 yo together for a long weekend girls trip to just spend time together. The house was perfect for our group. It was very comfortable and cozy, but large enough to spread out. The decor is perfect and so charming, even better than the pictures. We are already planning our next trip back!

This host was so accommodating and helpful. The house is stunningly comfortable within a small private neighborhood. Plenty of porches and outdoor seating with fire pit. Nicely situated between Cashiers and Highlands. Will definitely come back!

Loved the house! So cozy and a perfect place to spend Christmas. Love the decor!
Only negative is that I had to reach out for both check in and check out procedure. It was no biggie because the owner responded quickly to email then we were able to text. We loved the home and property!

Rustic Charm
In the era of McMansion second homes, the Halsted House has a wonderful rustic appeal with just the right amount of creature comforts. We went for a last minute family retreat. The WiFi was more than sufficient to allow remote work and the cabin a mere 10 minutes away from Cashiers and 15 from Highlands. If there was a shortcoming, it would be the bare bones mature in the cooking amenities. We cooked nearly every meal of our stay and, at times, had to get creative with completing a recipe. We gave this feedback directly to the owners as well. The overall feel was vintage, original, and cozy. We love the Highlands area and the house - would definitely stay here again.

Dreamy little mountain cottage
My family and I stayed at the Halstead House for NYE with our family and adored our time there. The decor and level of details are unmatched. The location was conveniently located between Highlands and Cashiers and provided easy access to many hikes/things to do. There was a fire pit outback and two fireplaces inside that were cozy & perfect for winter evenings. It was the perfect setting for a family of four. We will certainly be back.

The Halsted House
Our stay was great. The Halsted House is warm, clean and homey. Sometimes, renting something from the internet can be a surprise once you get inside and it's not always what you thought it would be. This house met all our expectations and then some. I would definitely rent again from Whitney. We loved it!

Elegant comfort between Highlands and Cashiers:
Halsted House is a lovely home with design comfort in a gated community located between Highlands and Cashiers. Outdoor activities, such as hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, golfing, and local lakes are within driving distance. Our family really enjoyed our stay – fresh, crisp mountain air, lots of day hikes (Rainbow Falls was a favorite), golfing, shopping, boating, and dining (Lake Toxaway Club, The Orchard, Wild Thyme, Wolfgang, etc), spa treatments at Greystone Inn (ask for Patty, best masseuse ever). Slept in luxury with the windows open every night, fortunately no rain showers which are normal for this time of year. We have been coming to the area for many summers to escape the heat and love it when we find a well-designed home that helps us relax upon arrival! Whitney, the owner, is very helpful and communicated any and all property nuances to expect – trash service is not provided, but SRCs (staffed recycle centers) are convenient enough in both driving directions; recent mama bear and cub sightings are a reminder to keep all food/trash stored securely in the house until eaten/disposed; windows work well; doors can be tricky, but we had no real issues. The kitchen is well-equipped, very clean home with nice bed and bath linens, comfortable den and living room for reading, watching tv, playing games, outdoor deck with gas grill, and separate screened porch off adjacent bedroom suite. Loved the MoLekule air filters provided, too! Note: Lake Toxaway Club, like almost all clubs in the area, is private, but Greystone Spa is open to the public.
