The first room we were allocated had a distinctly chemical smell when we entered. While unpacking my things I noticed a bug crawling on the carpet so I killed it. google identified it as a bed bug. It was delivered to reception and a new room requested. We took the only twin available. The only positive thing to say is the bed linen and towels were clean and freshly laundered everything else was a million miles from the adverting pictures. Enough said, our party won’t be staying there again.

The staff were friendly, and helped with assistance when I had booked the wrong date. This is the only positive point to this hell-hole of a 'hotel'. The room itself was tiny, and had last been decorated circa 1974. The beds were just about passable for the price, however walking around the room risked a serious head injury due to the incredibly low ceilings. Only Warwick Davis would find the ceiling height adequate. Although the hotel didn't have a spa facility, it did however have a sauna. Sadly the sauna was in fact the bedroom - the temperature was akin to the Sahara Desert, but with more dust. When the window was opened the three inches allowed, the cacophony of terrible karaoke from the pub opposite was enough to make anyone jump out of the window to their death. Alas, due to the tiny opening I was unable to do this. If things couldn't get worse, the bathroom looked as though it had never been updated since the invention of bathrooms. The Romans probably had better facilities. In fact, the cavemen probably did. It has to be seen to be believed. I wouldn't stay again if you paid me.

Whilst we had the largest room in the hotel, it was certainly not well planned nor furnished. It was impossible to obtain a reasonable temperature for the shower. The floor was quite simply the noisest I had ever been in, my walk from the bed to the bathroom in the early hours woke my wife up. The plated breakfast was fine and next door to one of the finest examples of tiled ceilings and fireplaces I have ever seen, well worthy of the National Trust let alone a hotel. Difficult to locate the parking but at least it was free.

The property is in need of maintenance and an upgrade. It doesn’t feel welcoming upon entrance and there’s no staff on site overnight. Our shower wasn’t working. If you’re not particular about comfort and simply want a bed next to the train station, you’ll be fine. But otherwise I would suggest another hotel.

parking is not obvious/ easy to find - we needed to be talked in by an excellent patient receptionist. very small grassy corner of the car park behind some skips was the only place our dog wanted to 'go'. breakfast was OK, thankfully freshly cooked rather than under heaters. the hotel must have been very grand back in the day, city centre location. hence very loud youths until well after midnight, and this was a midweek stay. after years of going past Carlisle on the M6, I finally found out it's west rather than east of the motorway! probably wouldn't return.

We loved that the hotel had parking. The bed was very comfortable and it was surprisingly quiet considering it's location. Bryony on reception was very helpful when we arrived. We will stay again when I visit relatives in the area.

Great spot in the city, my wife and I only stayed the night but it was a good area to rest in. Room was a bit dusty so heads up if you have any allergies. Noise was to be in expected in that area, the breakfast was great and made the stay definitely worth while for the price.

Happy to stay again
Very central for train station and easy access to city centre. Booked a triple room for myself and 2 friends to visit Cumbria Pride. The hotel was the cheapest available which initially concerned me however all concerns were gone after arriving. Ample car parking available, friendly staff and room was comfortable and clean. My only comment is that the bathroom could benefit from a little refurb to be more appeasing to guests expectations and room didn't get replenished during our stay Would definitely book here if visiting again

The County Hotel is very conveniently positioned for the railway station and has its own car park which is free to guests. It is surrounded by eating places from fish and chips to a very good Chinese buffet restaurant. There is plenty of nightlife too. Our room was a large family room for 3 adults at the rear of the hotel so was relatively quiet and comfortable. There is a lift to all 3 floors but some corridors and even rooms have steps in them so make enquiries about access if you have mobility issues. We have stayed here before and would be happy to stay here again in the future.
