The Old Sea Captain's House: A short walk to stunning beaches, shops and pubs

'Caerwenith' (The Old Sea Captain's House) is in the heart of the picturesque coastal village of Aberporth, West Wales. We've recently renovated this grand old 1930's house to its former seaside glory and have restored all of its original features and furniture. Its location is perfect! Five minutes walk to two stunning, sandy beaches (one of which is dog-friendly), local gastro pubs, shops and world-famous coastal path.

After a lazy breakfast, you can grab your beach gear and walk down to the beach, where the sand and sea await you. The beaches are spotlessly clean (Aberporth was the world's first Plastic Free Community and there are regular litter picks). There are lifeguards on duty (during the summer months) and the bay is sheltered. There is a great beach shop in case you've forgotten your bucket and spade! You can even hire sea canoes on the beach. At lunchtime, you can head back to the house for lunch or take advantage of one of the many pubs/cafes to have lunch (eat in or take away). With onsite parking at the Old Sea Captain's House, you can enjoy this lovely seaside destination without the cost and stress of finding a parking space!

This beautiful seaside village was recently voted one of Wales' top 10 beach destinations. It is one of the least rainy places in Wales. Cardigan Bay has the largest population of bottlenose dolphins in Europe, and from May to October, they can be seen from shore, the coastal path or from one of the many boat trips that are available to book nearby. If walking, hiking or biking is your thing, this is the perfect base. The house is a 3 minute walk to the world-famous coastal path.

The Old Old Sea Captain's House is a great base for exploring this absolutely stunning part of the world. There's so much to do; stunning beaches, cycling, sailing, kayaking, coasteering, diving, surfing, walking, theme parks, farms, wildlife centres, fishing, seal and dolphin boat trips, crabbing, horse riding, visiting castles and historic places.....the list goes on and on. In fact, Wales has more castles per km2 than anywhere else on earth! For those who enjoy browsing antique/craft shops and long pub lunches, there are charming market towns and villages for you to explore nearby. Just 10 minutes away by car is Cardigan, a bustling market town with supermarkets, a leisure center, cinema/theatre, craft/antique shops and plenty of great pubs and restaurants. Close by is the Cliff's Hotel with superb spa facilities.

Accommodation:
There is a large, secure front garden with outdoor dining furniture. A BBQ and an outdoor wood burner are located on the driveway behind the property. There is off-road parking for 3 cars. There is a fully equipped kitchen, with a large electric range cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, filter coffee machine, fridge and dishwasher. Next to the kitchen is a utility room with a washing machine, a separate dryer and a large fridge freezer. If you are super organised, you can arrange for a supermarket delivery (Tescos, Cardigan) and there is plenty of space to store all the food either in the fridge/freezer or larder room. There's lots of space to hang up beach towels and leave your gear until the next beach trip.

We have 2 bathrooms (each with a luxury shower, bath, toilet and sink). There are also two toilets (with hand basins). With 4 toilets in total, there's no queuing for the loo at the Old Sea Captain's House!

We have a large lounge with a smartTV and plenty of space for everyone to snuggle up at the end of the day. There is a DVD player and over 100 DVDs to choose from! There is an open fire in the lounge and a basket of firewood is provided. The dining room also has a fireplace and the dining table can seat 11. There are sea views from most of the rooms.

We have lots of books and board games for our guests to use if you fancy a night in, or you can walk to one of the pubs for dinner and enjoy the long summer evenings watching the sunset on the beach. The choice is yours!

Upstairs, you'll find one bathroom and one toilet/washroom plus 4 bedrooms. Room one has a double bed and bunks (sleeps 4), room two has bunks (sleeps 2), room three has a double bed (sleeps 2) and room 4 has a king-size bed and a single bed (sleeps 3). All bedrooms have a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. Fresh towels and bed linen are provided. Beach towels are also available in the box on the landing. Well behaved dogs are welcome. A highchair and cot are available on request.

So, whatever the weather, there's plenty to do. On booking, a welcome pack will be provided with more information about things to do in the local area.

Perfect
We stayed along with my brother and his family - 6 adults, 2 children and one dog. The house is as described and shown in the pics. Perfect location 5 mins walk from the beach, shop, pub, takeaways. 5 min drive from Cardigan which happened to be holding a food festival on the Saturday when we popped in to get wetsuits. The village of Aberporth is small and not like the larger areas of New Quay or Aberaeron so don’t expect a plethora of shops and bars. However it is very charming and we spent everyday on the beach with cocktails from the Boy Ashore when it opened at 3pm which is located on the beach. The house is old with noisy stairs but this adds to its quirkiness. It has everything you need. The owners contacted us as soon as we booked and were very informative. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Make sure to have the fish & chips from the takeaway as they are the best we’ve ever tasted!

Large lodgings in Aberporth
This is a really large and spacious property, which is done up to high standards. The walk to the beach and the costal path is short and nice. We had a fantastic stay, despite variable weather. We had some nice BBQs outside, the garden could be a little more atmospheric.

Wonderful Family Getaway
We stayed for a week with my family for my parents 70th birthday. The house was ideal, great communal living areas and plenty of space in the bedrooms. The kitchen was well-stocked and the bathrooms were brilliant. There was always hot water and the showers were powerful. However, we are a tall family and found the provided bath towels a little small. We were blessed with beautiful weather and the beach was a treat for people and dogs alike. Any queries we had were answered swiftly and in a friendly way.

Happiness in Aberporth, Wales
We came to stay at the Sea Captain's House at a time when there were no facilities for lively children open, at a time of covid; and yet it made no difference to this wonderful holiday at all. We adored the house and the friendly neighbours and shop keepers in the locality. The beach was a beautiful playground for the younger children. We loved our walks in one of the most scenic places on earth and the sunshine and ice creams in Newquay, close by. I will definitely want to book the Captain's Cottage again, we were made to feel most welcome.

Fantastic Stay!
A group of 8 of us, 3 adults and 5 kids have just returned from a fantastic 5 nights at Frankie & Paul's property. Everything about the trip was perfect, the house was spotless and the photos on HomeAway really don't do it justice! Paul & Frankie have renovated the property and it's simply stunning, with a brilliant blend of old and new features. The location is perfect, short walk to the beach and local pubs. Would recommend and I'm sure that we'll be back!

Great house, perfect location
we spent a week here, 2 families together and it was a brilliant week! We arrived and Paul and Fran showed us around, talked us through local walks, pubs, eateries, shops etc. We headed to the beach immediately after and the kids bodyboarded. There were paddleboarders, kayaks out in the water as the sea wasn't too rough. Its 5 mins walk from the beach - this was a massive bonus. Aberporth is a great beach, not too crowded and the village is not touristy. From the beach there is a pub, ice cream kiosk and cafe, toilets, so great facilities. The coastal path is right there and beautiful walks and views are to be had. We also went to Mwnt, Penbryn and New Quay. The Chinese takeaway 2 doors down is good food. The house itself is very well equipped It has been beautifully restored and you can feel the love that has gone into it. This is a fabulous house in an equally fabulous location, 100% recommend. Thankyou Paul and Fran for a really great holiday!

Perfect holiday home by the sea
We stayed here for my Mum's 70th, three families including two kids. The house is lovely inside it has only just been renovated, don't let the dark pictures put you off, it gives it a nice cosy feel and everything is finished to a good standard. Practically it works well, two of the bedrooms have extra beds for youngsters etc. There are two family bathrooms with good showers and three extra toilets if you count the one outside (yes we found it!). The house is in a great location, 5 mins or so walk down to the beach which means you can do an impromptu "let's go to the beach and watch the sunset" etc which is what we wanted. You can easily park three cars and there's a fully enclosed back garden. Aberporth itself has what you need and not as busy as other places we visited, a good base to explore the coast. Can recommend a trip to New Quay on the dolphin spotting boat. All in all very happy, top marks Frankie and Paul for a great place - thanks :-)
