Charming Village Apartments in a SAFE Area!
These lovely units are well maintained and comfortable apartment style accommodations, spread across a charming village on the slopes of cape town. Cute cafes, grocery stores, spas and health food places line the area. Multiple Yoga studios and adorable cocktail lounges balance each other out. VERY Convenient, and SAFE area. easy to walk, or ride a few mins to all top attractions. Service and staff we superb!

Horror Stay in De Waterkant
This must have been one of the most horrible accommodations we have ever been to. The place is tired, run down and there is virtually no space in the bedroom. The ceiling fan is out of order and replaced by a standing fan that covered the rest of the available floorspace. The stairs are ancient and not easy to manage (my wife fell down) due to some weird steel arms fixed on the wall (bumped my head twice), same steel frames carried the towels.....no, not in the bathroom, alongside the walls of bedroom. The reception is in another building and hence no WiFi, only if you walk to them, a joke for 2019. No amenities in bathroom, tired towels. An nespresso machine but no coffee, milk or sugar. Not even a bottle of water. Warm water kettle packed up during stay (end of ancient life span). Fleas and mites in the bed, one bed-side lamp not working....Shocking! Never again!

Great location and staff, disappointing rooms
As I wrote in my title, the location cannot be beat if you are interested in being in the "gay village" of Cape Town: De Waterkant. The bars - Manhattan, the Piano Bar and Versatile - are all within very easy walking distance. The corporation that runs the hotel has done almost nothing to update the apartments, however, and you feel like you are staying in a mediocre airbnb. Housekeeping is helpful, but they do very minimal cleaning of the apartment and only fully "service" the apartment every four days. Even after the service, after walking around barefoot, the souls of my feet were black. The apartments are very damp and cold with only two wall-mounted space heaters. Make sure to ask for an extra space heater during wintertime!

Convenient apartment, a little tired
One bed apartment was spacious and nicely laid out. Very close to the centre of the ‘vilage’. Fittings were a little tired - including a CRT television! - and the property had been sold. Good value for the price

Good Value, But Do Not Trust All Promises
Despite being very good value for money a few warnings should be given. The site advertises that it has "free parking nearby" which should read "street parking as and when available". In practice it means that one has to find a parking garage nearby to unpack your luggage to take to the room. The WIFI being available is also the truth but not the whole truth. There was no WIFI in our rooms, but across the road in the coffee shop/restaurant. I do not understand how they can get away with advertising facilities that are simply not there. The accommodation is however spacious, very centrally located and relatively quiet. Hence the overall good rating.

This was a family visit. The location and surroundings are nice. The staff was also very nice. The night we arrived we had some issues getting the electricity on. But for the trouble, we got a nice free breakfast the next day (courtesy of Charles, a great guy!). My guess is that things usually run well, but if things don't work well, they do their best to make up for it. Another minor comment is that when we enter the apartment, it seemed that it was closed (not aired) for some time. Overall a very nice stay. (It would be great to add Internet to the apartments, not only for the reception area, which is a few blocks away)

Great neighborhood, large, clean room, friendly staff. My flight wasn't until midnight but I was able to spend the evening in the lobby area of the hotel; they even provided a place for me to shower before my long flight home.

These are all houses rather than hotel rooms. It is very close to all the gay nightlife. The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful as well as familiar with gay clientele. There is a grocery store "spar" close enough to walk to and my unit had a full kitchen. If you like to cook it is a pretty good set up.

Cute and close to good food and drinks
This was a great little place for a solo traveler. Got upgraded to an apartment, which would have been comfortable for two people. Wifi was the only problem. Couldn't find a network to even buy wifi from the room. If you stand outside of the office at night, you sometimes get it. It was a very small detail, in an otherwise great stay!

Terrible...
Extremely noisy, dated and not maintained. No air conditioning, so impossible to sleep at night. Hardly anything worked in the room, including the windows that didn't close properly, shower door falling off, fan not working and the toilet didn't flush. Internet very expensive and slow and keeps going off. No house keeping unless you ask.

Don't stay there.
We arrived at night and raining. The single staff member at the front desk walked with us one block away to our room but he did not help with our bags. The room was plain, but clean. The toilette seat was broken, The internet did not work and there is no way to communicate with the front desk from your room, so I had to walk there and I was told that even though the ads said free internet it meant only at the reception area. If I wanted internet in the room I had to call a local service company and pay for the service. The next day the cable TV stopped working, so I had to walk again to the reception area and the single staff member told me he would go to try and fix it whenever he could. About one hour later he came and fixed it. The room was not cleaned on Saturday or Sunday. If you want that you need to pay extra. When we checked out we were getting charged the equivalent of US $50.00 to hold our bags for 4 hours. After I protested they took the charge off. The location of the hotel is excellent but there are much better deals and places in the same general area as we found out after being there. Find a better place and have a better time.

Lovely & Reasonable in De Waterkant Village
Our family had three two-bedroom townhouses at De Waterkant Village. They were all very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The neighborhood is quiet, but close to cafes, restaurants and shopping. Each of the living spaces was different. One of them had a lovely rooftop seating area. We would definitely stay here again.

Misleading name resulted in a disappointment.
It was my mistake; I did not double check the misleading name: De Waterkant Village. It was supposed to be De Waterkant Cottages where we stayed before, and what a disappointment. There was no "safe" parking.... oh, there was but we were not told that for a fee we could park inside or even have a lock up garage and we were made to take all our stuff out the car and cart it up many flights of stairs because of the threat on brake in. This made the nights hell as I was now sleeping with one eye open. Inside the flat it was fair. The carpets were so dirty I opted wearing my flip flops at least. The bath tub's plug did not work, the tap fell apart and then the fancy set-up from tap to hand shower did not work so water squirted all over when you open the tap. There was a broken lamp, non functioning safe and a front door that could only be opened or closed using excessive force. Other than that, it was fair.

Great Value + Good Neighbourhood
Three of us (mother and two adult sons) stayed in one of these apartments in De Waterkant for 5 nights. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The apartment itself is a great value - we each got our own sizable room and had a nice kitchen with a coveted washer + dryer, dishes, and satellite TV. The neighborhood is great - convenient to the city, very colorful, and it tends to be safe since it's somewhat of the gay neighborhood and up a hill from the CBD hustle. However, make sure to not walk alone after dark. There are sketchy characters looming about all over the city at night and we know of a number of people who were mugged. We recommend The Village Cafe for breakfast and coffee; they have free wifi. Also, Manhattan Bar is a great place to get drinks in the evening. It's a welcoming gay bar with a mixed crowd. If you want groceries, Spar is just down the street. The two disadvantages of this unit are: 1) No wifi in the unit (though it's free in The Charles Guesthouse, where you check in and available in neighborhood cafes and restaurants) 2) We could only get two separate keys even though there were three of us, so we had to make arrangements to get into the unit if we split up. Overall, highly recommended. Enjoy!
