They were very friendly. There was a nice bookshelf with interesting books and my friend was able to identify a bird she had seen that day with a book about Alaskan birds. We went on a hike up to a beautiful alpine lake; the hike started right from the parking lot behind the lodge. The view from the lodge was spectacular: a giant river valley, tundra, black spruce forests and mountains, lakes. The rooms are very nice.
The lodge serves good food for dinner and breakfast, but keep in mind that there are no stores around here. In nearby towns such as Glennallen and Cantwell there are not well stocked grocery stores. It is a good idea to stock up on food for lunches in Valdez, or at Cubby's south of the Spur highway to Talkeetna. Of course, the remoteness is part of the charm of Alpine Creek Lodge!
