Hoe een vakantie hoort te zijn
We really enjoyed staying in casa al melo. A rural, quiet and lovely place to stay with our family of 4. Altough the pool was not heated, is was a perfect cooling in the hot weather. The view over the moutains were stonning. The owner supplied us regularly with fresh vegetables from their land and local products. A tomato salad never tasted that good 😊. The only minus was that althe supermarket was not closeby, but hey, that’s worth the sacrifice!

Beautiful rural mountain location
Fabio was a great host making us feel so welcome bringing us fresh cherries and generally making sure we had all we needed. Accommodation and pool were great, not a heated a pool but on hot days that’s no issue. Location was perfect for us as it provided privacy, tranquillity and views while also only being a 15 min drive from a shop, train station which put Lucca, Pisa and Braga all within reach. We’d recommend lunch in Braga and dinner in Roggio - Perfecto! Don’t be put off by no air conditioning, because it’s in the hills the bedrooms downstairs are sheltered from the sun so are lovely and cool at night which was such a treat after a hot day. Thanks Fabio for a wonderful holiday

Great quiet location
The property is a super conversion and in a beautiful and quiet village up in the mountains. Fabio is a wonderful host who is very welcoming, easily contactable and makes sure you have everything you need during your holiday. The accommodation is comfortable and well equipped. and the pool is great although we stayed when the weather was a bit too cold to get the most use from it! Easy to get to Florence or Pisa for the day by train. If you are looking for a retreat from a busy world would definitely recommend

Traumhafte Lage, Top Service
Alles in allem zwei sehr schöne Wochen!!!

Entspannung Pur =)

Beautiful setting, lovely villa, clean and comfortable
This is one of the most beautiful places we have stayed. We stayed for 12 days from end of May to early June. The villa is everything described and more. It was so wonderful waking up to the sound of the birds every morning and sitting on the patio in the evening watching the sun set over the mountains. The pool and gardens are kept immaculate by Fabio and Elisa who work very hard for their guests, and will go above and beyond to make your stay in this delightful converted barn as special as possible. The village of Camporgiano is lovely with a charming little wine bar serving free bar snacks/nibbles in the evening! We would recommend eating at the Lo Scalome, Panigacceria restaurant, delicious. Only open at weekends. Also, the Agriturismo in Roggio serves authentic Italian food and lots of it, so go hungry. The local people are very friendly and many speak some English. If you love wildlife this is the place for you. We saw wild Boar, Golden Eagles, Deer, lots of Wall Lizards, a Giant Moth, Fireflies....Scorpions and Snakes, don't worry both of which are harmless. Fabio and Elisa also grow an extensive fruit and vegetable garden that you can eat from. Unfortunately, nothing was ready when we were there. There is quite a steep narrow track leading to Al Melo, but you very soon get used to it. We visited Lucca by train, this was so easy and cheap. The train station is directly opposite the walls of Lucca. We also caught the train to Cinque Terre, which was also pretty straightforward. Make sure you check the times of the return train, as we missed the last one and had to take a taxi from la Spetzia. Not cheap.

Peaceful tranquility, in beautiful location
We arrived late at night in the rain in a very remote location in northern Tuscany and to be fair we were a little apprehensive about what sort of holiday we would have. However, we were met by Fabio the owner, in the village centre to take us down to the property. Fabio was available throughout our stay, and put himself out when I had an issue with my hire car. Although late and dark we could see the villa was as perfect as the pictures found on various websites. In the morning the rain had cleared and the sun was shining and we now saw the true beauty of the location. Fabio had invited us to help ourselves to fresh fruit and veg from the allotment opposite the villa so we did whilst the children enjoyed the ample sized pool. As I said the location is very remote so be prepared for a fair amount of driving if you want to explore (45 mins to the bigger supermarket in Gallicano and at least 20 mins to the nearest town of note) The local train service is excellent and cheap. Trains can be caught to Lucca, Florence and Pisa from Camporgiano station which is 10 mins from the villa. There are several restaurants in the area but all a Car journey away. Colletti in Roggio is a must, incredible value for the amount of quality food you receive. Overall the villa & location made our holiday a fabulous experience and we would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to get a taste of pure Italy, And we hope to visit again.

Casa Roc, Albiano
Casa Roc, Albiano One of the most striking things about this lovely villa is its idyllic location, on the edge of a hillside village with every window overlooking the garden, the valley and the ancient, typically Tuscan, hill town of Barga. But it doesn't end there. The villa itself is as depicted and has all the amenities we could possibly require. It is spacious, tastefully decorated and furnished and the kitchen is very well equipped. There is a pleasant outside seating area with stunning views and we enjoyed using the gas barbecue every evening and sitting outside until late. With such a setting, why would you wish to eat and drink elsewhere? The lovely pool, with in-built Jacuzzi, is of a good size with plenty of sunbathing space around, and in mid-June we had sunshine from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. There is off-road parking space. Wifi worked consistently. The small village of Albiano is a short walk away and has a restaurant. There is a very good Conad supermarket (the only such store for 40 miles or so), just a few miles away. Every trip does involve a short drive down a winding hillside road, but this is a very minor inconvenience and in some ways adds to the fun. Besides, without that there would be no fabulous views! There are lots of things to see and do in the area, from touring the mountains, to visiting historic villages and towns, including the incredibly well preserved Lucca and, of course, Pisa. The agents were available and most helpful when we needed them. As inveterate villa-hirers, we loved our time here and, although we have never in the past returned to the same place again, this will be an exception to our rule.

Peaceful retreat with magnificent views!
We had a lovely stay at Al Melo. When we arrived there was a lovely welcome basket. Facilities are superb, plenty of kitchen equipment, Sky tv, wifi, plenty of books. The bedrooms are downstairs and are lovely and cool making for a restful night. The garden is beautiful and the pool was at a refreshing 26/27 degrees. Lots of different places to sit, with tables to eat, an outside brick barbecue. Fantastic views all round. Fabio and Elisa were lovely hosts, they were not intrusive, yet were on the other end of a phone if you needed them. They made us feel welcome, left gifts of potatoes and baby plums, that brings me onto the vegetable garden which we were able to help our selves to when ever we wanted - lots of herbs - a very novel 'basil bath'! The views all around are magnificent, lots of wildlife, seeing deer, Eagles, woodpeckers, lots of friendly lizards. Would recommend visiting the restaurant in Roggio, and spend time visiting the surrounding mountain villages and towns, which were beautiful. Al Melo is an ideal place for peace and tranquility, taking in the views, enjoying the sun, and if you want to explore Tuscany you not too far from some beautiful cities, with the drives down the mountain roads being magnificent. Thank you Fabio & Elisa for a lovely stay.

Amazing place
We had a really lovely week at Al Melo. We flew in to Pisa and drove up to the house. With a stop in Gallicano to the super market, the journey from the airport is about 1hr45, but what a drive!! The scenery and views all the way up the valley are spectacular. The road up from Camporgiano is hilly and twisty, but it is so worth it. You arrive in Puglianella main square, where Fabio we'll meet you and take you down to the house. The track down is very narrow and steep, so don't hire anything bigger than a VW Golf for a car. Suggest a diesel for all the mountain roads. The house is very clean and well maintained, and the photos don't do it justice. it is very hard to photograph the view and space around the house. It is just glorious. So private and absolute silence. The house has everything you would need to self cater, kitchen well stocked, washing machine, iron, dishwasher etc. Nothing is missing or broken. We used the local supermarket at Camporgiano (10min drive down the hill) for groceries, and is very well stocked. The bedrooms downstairs are a great size, and stay nice and cool in the summer. You do get the odd scorpion in the house at night, but they are no bigger than 6cm and are very timid and won't hurt you. We visited several places from here - Lucca (get the train from Camporgiano), Fortress of Verrucole (what a place!!) and you must go and eat at Coletti's, just a 10min drive up the mountain to the next village. 3 course dinner for 4 people was 65euros with drinks and coffees. However, this is not typical for Italy, but the homemade food was just so good!! You must go there. Fabio and his family were so nice and welcoming, and live in the village in case you need anything. Fabio pops round every couple of days to clean the pool and deliver fresh fruit and veg if there are some spare from his land. Book it!! You won't be disappointed.

Away from it all...peace in the mountains!
Stunning pool, very well equipped house, lovely and very helpful owners. Lots to do for all ages...canyoning, zipwiring, wonderful kiking, historical sites, villages, restaurants etc. The 25 min drive it takes to get anywhere is more than compensated for by the peace, seclusion, beauty and immersion into mountains, nature, agriculture and rural italian life at a slow pace...

A little bit of Tuscan paradise
Stayed one week August Family of 3 adult 2 young children We had the most brilliant week at al melo. The property is totally secluded, you can't see or hear anything or anyone from the villa. The lane down to the property is very steep and narrow so wouldn't be suitable for a large vehicle. It is immaculately clean and equipped with with everything you need. The outside space is just amazing, pool is a fantastic size and the grass area is great for sunbathing but also large enough for the children to run or kick a ball around. Wifi excellent, good choice of English channels including cartoons for kids. Location wise we found the drive up and around the mountain a little daunting at first but soon got used to it, it is worth it for the breathtaking views this villa has over the Italian mountains. The bedrooms being downstairs meant it was a lovely pleasant temp for sleeping, the sofa bed upstairs was also used but it was very warm on the upstairs level at night. Found one tiny scorpion in the shower tray, easily caught and popped outside. Lots of lizards and bats and Eagles to see - amazing - , we hoped to see a deer but didn't. Fabio is a welcoming and friendly host, we would absolutely return to this villa and hope to do so next year. We visited Lucca, Cinque Terre, grotto del vento and Pisa on our trip, Italian drivers are a little crazy but the villa is in a great location for road/train travel and we easily accessed all of these places. Very highly recommend this villa, it is truly a little bit of Tuscan paradise.
