Welcome to Casa Tranquila, a unique house in a location like no other in Cambria.
This open concept, 3 bedroom 3 bath, 3300 square foot house was custom built by the owner and is a mix of Spanish and Southwest design. The house includes a hot tub, pool table, BBQ, three decks, a well-stocked professional kitchen, a fenced back yard with picnic table, and unbroken forest views across Strawberry Canyon and ocean views from the upper bedrooms. The south-facing and wind-protected orientation and passive solar design keeps the house comfy in the winter but if the sun fails to show for a few days there are two wood-burning fireplaces and radiant floor heating. **Please note that due to water restrictions the bathtubs are not usable.** **There is now one side of the garage available for guest use as well as driveway parking!**
The house features spectacular salvage redwood and douglas fir post and beam construction. Every piece of wood in the house could have its own story, from the massive old-growth redwood beams salvaged from Philo near the Anderson Valley to the exposed fir headers from a pier in the Great Salt Lake. The doors and eyebrows are made from timbers from the old creamery in Paso Robles and a washed out bridge up Toro Creek road in Morro Bay, and the flooring and master bedroom vigas are made from Cambria pine. The roof tile, floor and ceramic tile, as well as the wrought iron light fixtures were custom made in Mexico.
Situated on a very private two acre parcel well off the street that is part of the old Rancho Santa Rosa, subdivided back in 1873. Below the house is unbroken mixed pine and oak forest down into Strawberry Canyon and beyond onto the Rancho Marino preserve. Camp Ocean Pines is on the other side of the canyon. This expanse of open space is a magnet for viewing wildlife from the house, including deer, turkey, fox, and many species of birds both big and small that flit around right outside the windows. A walking trail down into the Strawberry Canyon preserve begins at the bottom of the driveway and the ocean is a half-mile walk down the street to Lampton Park and the Marine Terrace. Downtown Cambria is about a five minute drive away. At Casa Tranquila, you can be away from it all but close to it all at the same time.
When you're ready to venture out and explore the beautiful Central Coast you will have many options close by. Hearst Castle and Hearst Winery, perched above the San Simeon Cove, are a short drive up the coast, and the famed Paso Robles wine country is a quick drive east. Charming San Luis Obispo is a 45-minute drive south and the Big Sur Coast is at your doorstep heading north. Cambria is the perfect starting off point for countless adventures.
