Casa Melograno, the perfect place too escape to. Built around 1690, it's been painstakingly restored and retains many of the original features including chestnut beams and terracotta floor tiles, which are the hallmarks of traditional Tuscan houses of that period. The village of Gombitelli is very old and from a time long before even horse
and carts, the streets and alleys are therefore very narrow so there's no direct vehicular access but there's several village parking options less than 150m from Casa Melograno...... And no traffic means no noise.
Set in grounds of approximately 1000qm, Casa Melograno is surrounded by nature with woodland on the upper levels. A patio with a pavilon for alfresco dining, offers breath taking views of the surrounding hills and valleys down to the Mediterranean sea and even the island of Elba 120km away. A secluded sun-deck has a "sunken" Spa-pool (for up to 7) and a solar shower. At an altitude of 500m and only 12km from the sea, Gombitelli benefits from a refreshingly cooler climate than that of the low laying planes of Pisa, Lucca and Viareggio.
The area is much loved by hikers and mountain bikers, infact the well known "via francigena" pilgrimage route (which runs from Canterbury in England through Rome to Apulia) is less than 2km away!
