Garden cottage, estate property set in amazing gardens, pet friendly, Wi-Fi

Garden Cottage is a charming stone built, detached Victorian cottage nestled in an enclosed garden situated on Strachur Park Estate. The cottage is light and airy and all the rooms look out onto the peaceful parkland offering an unique holiday experience in this spectacular region. Perfect for families and couples.

There is a double bedroom and family bathroom with walk-in shower located on the ground floor. Upstairs there are two spacious double bedrooms, and a bathroom complete with a bath, hand held shower and toilet.

Living room 2: Games area
Kitchen/dining room: With electric oven, electric hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer.
Bedroom 1: has a ¾ size double bed.

Bedroom 3: Zip and link super king size bed (can be twin beds on request).
Bathroom: With bath and toilet.

Pets welcome, two dogs maximum, to be kept on a lead at all times (sheep country).

Outdoors
The cottage is approached by 250 yards of rough farm track that leads from the village of Strachur along an avenue of beeches to the old walled garden, which is no longer in use, and to the fields and woods beyond.

Strachur is just a short walk away, with a post office/shop, petrol station and two local pubs; Dunoon is a half hour drive and has all the main amenities, and there are several good restaurants close by and in nearby Inveraray.

Dating from 1789, and still owned by the original family, Strachur Park comprises lush pasture with avenues and woodlands of mature trees - mostly limes, beeches and Scots firs. Take a stroll on one of the woodland walks with rhododendrons and rare shrubs, as well as nature trails offering an abundance of wild flowers and wildlife. There is also a small river running through the park and a secluded lochan, perfect for a picnic. Shop, pub and restaurant is within a 1/4 mile.

Stunning location
Overall we had a good holiday here , as so peaceful and such a beautiful area , also suitable for the dog. However, the house is in need of some restoration (flaking paint, ceiling stains, kitchen floor needs replaced, furniture more shabby than chic). Would also benefit from a deep clean. If you don’t mind roughing it this house is perfect for you, as a peaceful getaway with doorstep walks and walkable to the Craggans Inn.

Could be so much better.
The cottage is in a relatively good location, a quiet corner of a sheep farm but within walking distance to amenities including a great pub and restaurant. The cottage was not very clean and smelt damp, there were crumbs and ants in some kitchen drawers, rubbish under a couch, many utensils were dirty, the kitchen floor had mucky foot prints.... however the sheets and towels were clean which was the main thing. The whole cottage inside and out needed painting, the perimeter fence was falling apart which meant sheep were often in the garden and their poo was everywhere, therefore dangerous for children and dogs. There was no microwave as advertised and the shower is uncomfortably small.

A step back in time
The cottage was lovely. Quaint and quirky but still very comfortable with a modern convenient kitchen to cook and eat in and comfy beds. Very rural and secluded setting but still within walking distance of the pub and restaurant. It felt like stepping back in time to a simpler life, surrounded by countryside, beautiful trees and sheep with lots to do nearby.

A fabulous place to stay
The owner graciously accommodated our later than planned arrival and the cottage had its lights on and was nice and warm when we got there. Despite the freezing temperatures outside we always had a cosy place to return to. A cot and high chair was provided and the cottage was nice and clean. The immediate vicinity was a joy to walk in with glorious old trees on the doorstep and lovely beech and oak woodlands to explore. The whole peninsular was fantastic to visit and we will no doubt return to the cottage.
