Great time!
Great views, fun amenities, and a cozy location! Not quite as rural as we thought, which was great. Closer to groceries and shops than expected. Loved the views of the lake from the living room and bedrooms.

Pleasant retreat
Property was beautiful. Only complaint was not enough towels or toilet paper. There were lots of fruit flies out of sink drains. Otherwise, great 2 day stay.

Incredible view, beautiful property
Recently renovated, this camp was perfect in so many ways. Great communication with the host, including a helpful video with directions! Has the view, the closeness to nature, the quaintness of a camp with the modern facilities, shower and comfortable beds. We enjoyedi the canoe and the dock meant we could get picked up by family staying elsewhere on Bear Pond. Would definitely recommend.

Hartford Camp
Main house was very clean, and comfortable. Kitchen had almost everything we needed. More cleaning supplies would have been nice. Lots of towels, but only 3 washcloths for 4 people. Camp sits under a canopy of trees, so there are LOTS of pine needles and we only had a very short broom to keep the deck and steps cleaned (pine needles are very slippery during a rain shower and I fell twice). The view is awesome and the surroundings are quite.

had a great time
check in was easy. found the key. A little struggle getting our kayaks to beach but we managed. Had heat up to 101 degrees and the ac was a welcome. had a thunderstorm which kicked out power for the whole town. Email both owners to see if there was anything we had to do. We were fine but wanted them to know and neither got back to us for two days. but power came back on in a few hours. Left a day before scheduled because it was to rain on the day out and did not want to pack kayaks and stuff in rain. Loved the water, saw loons, eagle, canadian geese family, lots of fish, bass nests, and my husband caught seven species of fish. The only draw back is the mounds and mounds of pine needles. everywhere!

Beautiful lakefront cabin!
Loved the remoteness and stillness of this cabin in the woods. Sleeping accommodations were as advertised, inclusion of a canoe was fantastic! Loved just sitting on the dock looking out on the pond/lake at any time of day. Place could use a couple more amenities but overall well worth the trip!

Just the R&R we needed
We couldn't have asked for a better escape: The lake is relatively small but was plenty large enough for our canoe explorations; the out-building/guesthouse was perfect for our son; the accommodations were more than satisfactory; and the check-in was user-friendly and hassle-free. Aaaaaahhhh!

Peaceful pondfront camp
Rustic camp on lovely pond with a "back in time" feel. Property is as pictured but without all the sharp photo editing. Neighbors are close, but it was pretty quiet on weekdays. Loved canoeing on the pond. Moonrise was spectacular through the living room sliders. Board games filled our rainy days. A variety of birds visited the porch each morning. Property would benefit from some maintenance and a little updating - without ruining the character of the place.

Great location, Excellent set-up!
First off, I want to qualify that 4/5 star rating, for me, isn't anything short of "Very Good!" and an enthusiastic approval and endorsement. I recognize some folks give 5 stars for every experience from "fine" to "ideal," which kind of makes 5 stars less meaningful. A few small items could use some tweaking, but in no significant way detracted from a fine vacation. The location of this property, right on the pond (arguably a small lake feel!) was terrific. Access for kids, small watercraft, etc, was great. Unlike some places we've stayed, there was a nice gradual transition into the water, which is really nice for small children who aren't strong swimmers yet. A lot of the shallow water was nice and sandy, which is also great for tiny feet. The property size was as expected, and the kids enjoyed having their own bunkhouse/mini cabin, (as did the adults!) Neighbors weren't too close, but were well within line of sight. This property isn't crowded but it isn't isolated. The layout of the house with lots of windows and sliding doors facing the water worked quite well. The position and design of the deck out the back was equally well situated. Stairs from the deck led down to the comfortable and well designed fire pit area, and another set of steps led down to the waterfront and dock. All of these locations provided excellent spots to watch the sun come up or watch the moon over the pond and listen to the loons calling. It should be noted that the deck to fire pit steps are charmingly situated over a large existing natural rock, (which itself is one of the "steps" to get down) and the steps down to the water are just a bit rickety. No trouble at all for younger and able-bodied folks, but might provide some challenges to older adults or those with mobility issues or disabilities given some uneven surfaces and some unexpected step downs which take a few tries to get used to. It's also worth noting that the low deck rails provide a great view of the trees and pond but might cause some anxiety if one was keeping an eye on a toddler. Some nice inclusions: the existing canoe (while down-played by the host when asked) was more than adequate for our casual needs of tooling around out on the water for under an hour at a time. Plenty of life vests in various sizes available as well. TONS of firewood, all chopped, split, and stored in a dry location on the side of the bunkhouse - very much appreciated. The kitchen served our needs well. Perfectly functional gas stove, microwave, fridge, all the dishes and glassware one might want and a fair array of pots and pans. One hiccup for us was that the photos showed a drip coffee pot and on arrival it turns out it was replaced with a Keurig. Emailed host to inquire if the drip one was stashed and usable somewhere and, while it wasn't, he offered to reimburse us for the purchase of a reasonable model to meet our needs. Very kind! We ended up just buying some K-cups and making do, but some folks might be bigger coffee snobs and want to BYO on that score. Two other kitchen items we'd have liked to see: a few leftover containers for stashing stuff in the fridge and a decent, good sized cutting board. The washer/dryer stack in the kitchen was fine, tho' the washer isn't terribly fast. No worries; just plan accordingly! The convenient gas grill out back worked very well without any concerns. For the deck picnic table, one might have wished for an available picnic style table cloth, but we improvised and used a random fitted sheet for the purpose. Bedding was good, comfy enough, sheets in decent supply and lots of extra blankets around. A few more towels would be helpful, but fine if factored into doing a little laundry. Not really any beach towels to speak of, so BYO there as well. It should be noted the only bed in the only bedroom in the main house is a double, which is fine for any couple that likes each other and doesn't need a king's width of clearance from their sleeping partner! Bathrooms were reliable, functional, and clean. The occasional visits from moths and a few daddy longlegs pretty much go with the territory! Showers had plenty of hot water and good water pressure to boot. The living room was comfortable enough, featuring a well-loved couch and a couple lightly padded indoor versions of the plastic adirondack chairs out back. One might wish for comfier seats, but one also respects the owners' desire to avoid investing too much in furniture subjected to all sorts of potential use and abuse, so no worries there. WIFI worked GREAT, and while it's nice to have access to all the TV we have at home, it was a personal challenge trying to get children to NOT sneak inside and flip on Netflix every now and then. "That's not why we're here, kids!" All the entertainment you could want, however. :) It's worth noting that while there's a REALLY nice Hannaford down the road in Turner that'll have everyone you might want only 12 minutes to the south, the same drive to the west will bring you to the famous Tilton's Market in Buckfield, which, while much smaller than a standard grocery, makes up for it with lots of friendly Maine character and a pretty fabulous meat selection. Plus, a decent if not stunning array of spirits available. Definitely drop in to Tilton's! In all, a great vacation experience, would totally rent again any time. Was especially pleased by how helpful the host was (providing a video "guide" to assist us to easily find the property) and being highly responsive the couple times I flagged questions to him by email. For folks seeking a lovely lakeside experience off the beaten track in inland Maine, I don't see how one can do much better.
