Directions:
If you're coming from the West, on HWY 74 to Bryson City, continue past exit 67, for Bryson City staying on HWY 74W. Remain on the highway for another 2-3 miles after passing exit 64 for Alarka. You will pass the HWY 28 South on the left, then the Learning Center on your right which will have several Kayaks out front as a decorative feature. Less than 1/4 of a mile past the Learning Center, you will come to a bridge just beyond mile marker 61. Take the road just before the bridge called Hipsher Cove Rd.
If coming from East towards Bryson City, once you pass the intersection where Hwy 28 S meets HWY 74, The road will open from a two-lane e to a four lane. Continue on the four lane for approximately 2 miles to a bridge. Cross Over the bridge, take the very first left immediately at the end of the bridge on Hipsher Cove Rd. Follow Hipsher Cove Rd up to the gate. Continue on Fontana Lake Drive for approx. 2 1/2 miles and then turn right onto Appalachian Rd. Continue on Appalachian, will be the first left onto Wild Orchid. The first home on the right. The last part of the drive — once you turn up Appalachian way— has a quite steep part and we highly recommend a 4WD vehicle from Dec - March in case of wintery weather.
We provide a starter pack of basic necessities, such as toilet paper, trash bags, soap/shampoo, and paper towels.
Our cleaners also usually leave (if applicable) dishwasher tablets/dish soap, coffee, oil/salt/pepper, etc.
We do our best to provide the basics, but please consider that it is really meant for getting you started in for shorter stays. If you need a little extra of any of these items, let us know, and we’ll do our best to assist you!
You have a propane-type grill at this property, feel free to use it during your stay.
Please use the bear-proof garbage containers located outside by the fire pit. Please do not leave food and trash on the decks and porches.
Bear protection:
1) Do not feed or interact with bears if you see them. Never get in between a mama bear and her cub.
2) Never run away from bears, they would think you are prey. Stay 50 yards away.
3) If needed, make loud noises and move slowly
4) Do not put trash outside unless it's in the bear-proof containers- it will attract bears!
5) Take pictures since they are so cute! But DO NOT approach. Lock car doors and cabin doors as bears have been known to get into them!
6) Remove all food and trash from your vehicles! Bears can smell it and can damage your vehicle trying to get to the food!
7) Keep your car doors locked at all times. Bears are getting wiser and they can open car doors.
Should you have any questions or need anything whatsoever, please do not hesitate to let us know and we will be more than happy to help you.
