Great Experience
Amazing location for nature lovers. Friendly property owners. We were there to see DC and the numerous historic sites around the area, but we spent one day just enjoying the property and the river. The house provides several Kayaks and a Canoe. This might not be the optimum location for those more comfortable in a modern downtown condo, but was absolutely perfect for us.

This was our third stay at Fenwick Cottage. Even though is was short we were able to relax and unwind. We continue to enjoy identifying new flora and fauna on the property, and witnessing the seasonal changes. John and Carrie are wonderful hosts, we always have fun, animated conversations with them.

Hidden Nature Getaway Near the Big City
Just so unexpected that this peaceful, quiet, beautiful, natural, and preserved environment could exist at the end of a small semi-rural community less than half an hour away from Washington DC. A hidden treasure for those who enjoy being near nature and also having comfortable and safe lodging. Exceptionally clean and well stocked with lots of hospitality.

Secluded, well maintained home surrounded by nature, tidal marshes, and the Potomac River offering endless wildlife viewing opportunities. We canoed and kayaked to a new spot every day. Property is just as gorgeous as in the pictures. Amazing biodiversity of plants, birds, animals, butterflies and more! Our second visit was even better than our first. Super hosts make sure you have all you need to enjoy the great outdoors.

Only place we will stay in Maryland
Over the last dozen years we have stayed at John and Carrie's beautiful cottage and grounds several times. There is no place we look forward to going more than here. Our stays have also developed into life long friendships with this wonderful couple. From the proximity to our nation's capital to simply staying on the grounds for the simple getaway from everyday life, the little cottage at the corner of Pomonkey Creek and the Potomac River is the perfect spot for us!

DC getaway
We booked this house but planned time in DC. Very easy drive to get to the city. The house was very cozy and the owners provided a lot of information for things in the area. House was well stocked with kitchen supplies which was nice for cooking. The view is amazing. It would have been nice to spend more time on the property but we didn't have time.

Nature at its best!
We really enjoyed this property for about 6 days. It did not disappoint. Close enough for day trips to DC and Annapolis, as well as the Indian Head Rail Trail and just what we needed to commute with nature. Kayaking the Pomonkey Creek was my favorite and the sunsets couldn't be beat. The little pink house was comfortable and cozy for my husband and me to cook breakfast every morning and relax at the end of the day's activities.

Love this place
We stayed with our 11, 9 and 3 year old and had a blast. The kids never wanted to come in. From exploring, collecting shells, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, jumping in water ! All was provided, even life jackets! Amazing time; my man satyed out on water until 3am every night; said it felt like he was living in a real life bass pro! Fish and animals all over! Absolutely beautiful!

Great location, hosts, and amenities.
We had a great time here. The canoes and kayaks are in good shape and are quality boats, the house had everything we needed. The kitchen is very well stocked with cookware, and the hosts were great as well. The WiFi worked fine for us. The location is absolutely perfect. We saw a ton of birds on the creek, and even took a short paddle on the Potomac. It's a great spot to take kids-there's a ton to do, short paddles are ok because you're already on the water, and the kids will sleep well after a busy day. We hope to make it back here soon!

Beautiful cottage to relax in and enjoy within driving distance of DC.
This cottage was beautiful. The location was perfect for strolls and watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the water. The pier was amazing early in morning, watching and listening to the birds rustling and singing to each other. Even if the weather doesnt cooperate though, they've provided games and crafts for kids. Plus it's only 30 minutes from DC, so you can take in the museums and sights, without having to stay in the city. Its really the best of both types of vacation. Our hosts were very helpful and available if we needed anything. I'd absolutely recommend this cottage to anyone considering a trip to DC. Especially with children. You'll want to see the sights and museums, but none of that will match watching the sunrise through their eyes :)

We loved our week at this property!!!!!! Clean, neat, super well stocked. Quiet with beautiful views of river, stream, marsh, woods. Birds of all variety, deer, fish, bullfrogs, tree frogs, lightening bugs. Local history to explore. Great breakfast and lunch at the local Lunch Box Diner. Easy trip to Alexandria in 35 minutes. John was the perfect host. Can't say enough good things about this property. We will be back!!! Thank you John!!!

Lovely spot on the water
The cottage was lovely. It is on the river and provides kaayaks. We spent every morning kayaking up the creek that comes in the Potomac just beyond the house. The only issue was that on our third night, the power went out for about 2 hours, which also meant that we had no water. The next night, the power was out due to a thunderstorm from before 6pm until about 4 am. Again, not only no electricity (for lights, fans, or a/c) or water during this time.

Wonderful little hideaway
The home was wonderful and was so well stocked, perfect for our family of 4! We loved spending time on the dock and the fishing was good. We kayaked over to the little beach across the Pomonkey one day and waded in the clear water to collect beach glass. We also spent some time on the couple of beaches on the home's shore, too. There was wildlife all over the place and the sunrises and sunsets were amazing from the dock!! The home is very secluded from any other homes besides the owners' and they keep to themselves. The beach across the river was packed with boaters over the weekend and they got a little loud so know that the spot isn't completely secluded. Overall, a very relaxing and enjoyable home-away-from-home!

We love Fenwick Cottage!
We never stay at the same place twice but we had to come back for more after last year’s adventure. We kayaked and canoed our way down the Pomonkey, catching lots of fish (catfish, pan fish and one gigantic carp). The kids went swimming off the dock every day and we so enjoyed all of the animal life, from the tiny frogs on the front door glass to the water snake our 10-year-old caught with his bare hands. John and Carrie are so hospitable and always have the property in tip-top shape. I also love that the house is always fully stocked with anything we would ever need. They’ve thought of everything!
