Holidays in the monument combines heritage preservation and tourism. Historically valuable construction tools are taken over, gently renovated and rented as holiday apartments. The model makes a double profit: the monuments receive a new future and holidaymakers experience a stay in an extraordinary building. The idea is realized by the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal (FiB), which was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Homeland Security.

STONE HOUSE - Stone house with modern interior
History & Information
The construction of the farmhouse goes to the 16th Back. The Puschlaver stone house with its usual spatial typology was permanently inhabited for more than three hundred years. The house was empty for the last 40 years. The advanced age of the house demanded some major interventions in the internal renovation work. Nevertheless, the peculiarities of the house are still very easy to read. Through an inconspicuous door in the east facade you reach the courtyard, where a small outsourced Stüva with a double bed is located. This separate building is a special feature in the valley. In the former economic section is the spacious kitchen with fireplace. On the south side is the living room. A new staircase leads to the two bedrooms and to the bathroom on the second floor.
renovation
The house was not a listed building, but it was a concern of the builder to work intensively with the preservation of monuments. The exterior of the house was largely retained in its original form. The two former hayloft accesses in the northern façade have been adapted and glazed to meet the need for more daylight. The old windows have been replaced by wooden metal windows.
Inside, however, many interventions were necessary. The building fabric was too heavily affected. The attic and large parts of the ceilings had to be replaced. The originally separated residential and economic parts were connected by a generous wall breakthrough. In the former economics section is now the spacious kitchen with kitchenette and fireplace. On the south side is the living room. A new staircase in the kitchen leads to the two bedrooms and the wet room on the second floor. The staircase is illuminated by two skylights. The original two-storey hayloft is still legible. The formerly separate tracts are also connected in the attic through two passages. The walls were provided with an ocher, mineral plaster that adapts to the existing. Bathroom, kitchen and oven are completely new.
IMPORTANT SUPPLEMENT
The stone house is a monument that has been renovated with great respect for the existing substance. The tenant is aware of this and meets the object with care. Although technically state-of-the-art, certain functional details do not conform to current standards and harbor a potential source of danger. These circumstances are known to the renter. The owner, e-domizil and the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal disclaim all liability.
