Stable Cottage, Sleeps 4 Cosy, characterful original Features,Quantock Hills UK
Stable Cottage is a delightful 2 bedroom property built of local stone sitting on its own in our courtyard. As suggested it is the old stable converted to a private dwelling but kept some of its charming original features. It has twin beds in one room and a double in the other. It is on two floors with a central staircase. Outside is a small sitting are and patio where you can enjoy the sunshine most of the day. There is an acre (2.5 ares) of walled garden so it is very safe for children to play whilst the adults sit or lounge their time away in the many private areas of the garden. It is restful and quiet. The garden is also where the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge is said to have written some of his best poetry and where he gained inspiration for more of his work. The front of the cottage is covered with climbing flowers and is covered in roses for most of the summer. Stable Cottage is part of The Old House which was a private residence dating back to the mid1700. Today it is still a private house but has been carefully divided into 3 holiday cottages and two B&B rooms. It sits in the centre of the delightful village of Nether Stowey with its little brook running down the main streets. It is at the bottom of the beautiful Quantock Hills the first area in England to be designated and area of Outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The walks around the area are stunning with views across to Wales, the Mendip Hills, Blackdown Hills and the Exmoor National Park. Nether Stowey is the beginning of the Coleridge way which is a popular 56 mile walk. The village of KIlvce 4 miles away is part of the north Somerset Jurassic coastline where fossils are plentiful. It is a lovely spot to observe the unusual strata formations at low tide and a magnet for walkers and tourists alike. Watchet, and old port with two harbours is a popular destination for strolling around and eating fish and chips in the late evening overlooking the marina. A little further down the road is Dunster with its famous and stunning well preserved castle. The village itself a little gem to visit and savour. To the east of nether Stowey we are within easy distance of the small city of Wells with its fantastic Cathedral and Bishops Palace. Caves to visit at Wookey Hole and Cheddar with its the famous gorge. For those in need of retail therapy there is Clarks Village and can be followed up with a visit to Glastonbury Torr. National Trust properties are abundant and several are within easy distance from Stable Cottage. There is so much to do you will need more than one week to see them all.

Comfortable and clean - great location, lovely friendly hosts who made us very welcome. The garden is beautiful and in spite of the terrible weather we had a really enjoyable break - thanks

Charming Cottage!
Myself, my husband and our daughter stayed at Stable Cottage recently and it was such a lovely trip! The cottage is quaint and ideal with a lovely courtyard and huge garden that was more than adequate for the three of us! The small village of Nether Stowey has a post office / tea room, shops church and a couple of pubs which serve lovely food! Situated a short drive from local towns and a lovely beach. Manor and Ann were very welcoming and child friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again or recommend as a great place to stay!
The area was completely new to us, which was a reason for visiting. In these Covid times, both Ann and Manor were very aware and responsible. The self catering cottage is small but it has bags of character and for the 3 of us for 3 nights, it was absolutely fine.
Local knowledge from Manor sent us to a lovely little beach and waterfall, rather than the ones I had read about. We also had a lovely wet walk in Great Wood which we all enjoyed. The village has a convenience store, but we also passed by Sainsburys and M&S in Bridgewater to get oven ready food.
The garden is huge and my daughter and dog loved it. All very safe and so ideal to let them play as we prepared supper etc.
Overall, all very enjoyable. Thank you very much
We had a lovely week in the sunshine in Nether Stowey. The property is spacious, the welcome warm and the garden an absolute delight. My teenage boys were delighted by the badminton net in the garden and my nieces loved the space and freedom to play. Manor was really helpful in suggesting places to visit and where to eat, and we all loved the fossil beaches.
Very pretty cottage covered in roses and stunning garden. Stable cottage very well converted with authentic details. 2 good sized bedrooms and very clean modern bathroom.
Large enough sitting room , kitchen bit small. Could do with a freezer if you’re staying for a week But a bit dark with only one door in and out.
Lovely friendly owners very helpful with local knowledge. Would stay again .
Stable Cottage was cozy and comfortable. The gardens at The Old House were beautiful and we enjoyed sitting out with our books and board games. The internet in Stable Cottage was not great and worked only intermittently, but everything else was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Thank you to Manor for making us feel so welcome!
We’ve had the most wonderful few days staying at the Old Stables. The cottage was clean, very comfortable and located in a very quiet and peaceful setting! We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend.
We’ve had an amazing time staying at the Old Stables. The cottage is cosy and most comfortable. Manor and Ann are great hosts! They make you feel welcome. Beautiful gardens, nice little town.
The Cottage Inn was heel matig.
Arrived after a tortuous Bank Holiday drive to the heavenly scent of old fashioned roses adorning Stable Cottage and its adjacent garden. It's a lovely homely cottage away from traffic noise but close enough to the A39 to allow for days out in this picturesque region. Bedrooms were comfy and spacious, the bathroom was of a better standard than is usually expected for smallish accommodation. Downstairs was cosy with two soft sofas and room for dining. The galley kitchen is well equipped but a bit narrow. A previous reviewer warned of the staircase; it does have a handrail and furthermore my 12 year old arthritic dog managed well enough. Friendly hosts were on hand, with invaluable suggestions for days out and were never intrusive. Would recommend this property.

lovely holiday place
We chose the place as it was in the village we wanted to visit. Brilliant for the Quantocks; and not very far from Exmoor or the sea.
The property is good, well looked after, with the owner living in the main house. Lovely garden too.

The property is not really suited for older people
My wife and I were booked in to Stable Cottage in Somerset for 3 nights commencing Tuesday 18th September but unfortunately the property was really not suitable for us or any elderly people especially around the 70 year old mark or someone that has bad knee joints. The website shows 19 photos, 16 of them giving views of the garden, the outside view of the cottage or the coast and local places to visit but their were only 3 photos of the inside of the property. These are the living room, kitchen and a bedroom.
The description does state a central staircase but the staircase was open backed, quite steep, not much of a handrail and uncarpeted, like I say this would not be a problem for younger people but older ones would definitely struggle. Therefore a photo of the stairs would be great or even an advisory note to say the property may not be suitable for the elderly. Another problem we noted was the sofas were very low which is again not suitable for older people that have joint problems. In the bathroom their was not really a place to stand toiletries, their was a glass shelf above the wash sink but it didn't look too safe. It was a nice touch for our arrival with some food. milk, bread etc. and the property was clean but I really think that some indication that it may not suit elderly people would be useful for anybody thinking of staying there.
We had booked for a 3 night stay but had to leave after one night as we felt the staircase was just too dangerous for someone of the age of 70 plus with bad knee joints. If it was just a normal staircase, carpeted and with a handrail we would probably been able to manage it.

wonderful holiday stay in Nether Stowey
Owners Ann and Manor were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The property was clean, comfortable and well equipped. There was a yummy welcome pack and flowers left in the property. Manor took time to advise us as to where to go in Somerset and lent us his map book to use during our stay. There is a lovely, big garden with the property which we were invited to use. The cottage is ideally situated for touring the area. We would highly recommend this property.

Wow, it ticked all th boxes. Very cosy warm and lovely open fire everything you could possibly want.
What an amazing place, very clean and lovely welcome from Manor and Ann. Lovely surroundings and great walks. Very dog friendly all pubs had treats for our dog and made us feel very welcome. Even though weather very cold and wet found loads to do. Great walk from duunster beach to minehead about 8 miles but worth it if you like walking. Can't wait to go back.

Cozy and relaxing in beautyful surroundings
A very nice place to stay. Our arrival was delayed but the very warm welcome at the house made up for that. We used the lovely, beautiful and huge garden as much as we could both for eating breakfast in the morning sun or playing badminton with our children. We explored the area around us and had many beautiful daytrips.
We highly recommend this place for both couples and families with children. The cottage is really not big, but it fits a family of 4 for a week.
