***More detailed information below***

Located southwest of Brevard along Rosman Highway (U.S. 64), this Transylvania County town sits atop several major natural and manmade intersections. Its location has made the town the perfect spot for scientific research, outdoor recreation, and building a tight-knit community.

When you list the top things to do in Rosman, NC, you have to mention at least a handful of outdoor activities. Rosman sits on the eastern boundary of Pisgah National Forest’s 88,000 protected acres. So the area offers easy access to some of the best hiking, fishing, mountaintop views, and waterfalls in the region. The forest is also home to the Cradle of Forestry, a 6,500-acre heritage site and interpretive center that represents the birth of the conservation movement in the United States.

Among the highlights of the surrounding area are Sassafras Mountain and Courthouse Falls. Located just along the South Carolina line, Sassafras Mountain has a 3,353-foot observation deck. In addition to serving as the highest point in SC, the deck also affords visitors an awe-inspiring view of both adjoining states, as well as Georgia in the distance. In the other direction from town, Courthouse Falls offer a more down-to-earth view. The 45-foot waterfall is located just a short hike from pull-off parking (0.7 miles round trip). And the deep pool into which it plunges is perfect for a dip on a hot day.

Located right in the heart of it all, Rosman offers the best of both worlds. In just 20 minutes, you can reach Brevard, and in less than an hour, you can explore the vibrant city of Asheville, or enjoy the charming towns of The Highlands and Ski Resorts. In addition, a short drive will take you to the serene Lake Jocasse and Lake Toxaway. With endless opportunities for fishing, hiking, camping, and more, Rosman is truly a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

Less than a quarter mile outside town limits is arguably one of the most significant confluences in the Southeast. It’s at this spot that North Fork French Broad River meets West Fork French Broad River to become the ancient and mighty French Broad. At 218 miles in length, the French Broad River bisects Rosman and flows north through much of Western North Carolina before discharging into the Tennessee River.

The French Broad flows through a number of wilderness areas, each with its own unique microclimate and wildlife. More than 10 species of rare fish and three rare mussels are found in the river, and it’s the only river basin that’s home to the distinctive Eastern spiny softshell turtle. Ecologists and outdoors enthusiasts alike enjoy studying the local wildlife in and along the river. If you’d like to see where it all begins, you have to start in Rosman at Headwaters Outfitters. Their family-friendly outings are designed to get everyone out in the water, or you can hang back at their taproom and just enjoy the view.

Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) is located a few miles northwest of town limits. Though established as a nonprofit organization in 1998, PARI’s site traces its history back to 1962 when it was an East Coast NASA satellite tracking facility. The site was built as part of the worldwide Spacecraft Tracking and Data Acquisition Network. And it served as an integral communications link for the Gemini and Apollo manned space programs, supporting each of the moon landings.

Today, PARI is a protected astronomical site with more than 30 buildings, four radio telescopes of various sizes, a high frequency Jupiter-Io/Solar antenna, 12 optical telescopes, five weather and atmospheric monitoring stations, and various environmental monitoring instruments. Visitors come to PARI for hands-on educational and research opportunities across a broad swath of STEM disciplines. But researchers continue to come to the site for much more! PARI’s research is utilized by universities in a multi-state area, and the location is home to the Astronomical Photographic Data Archive (APDA).

Awesome stay at this home!
Really loved this rental. It offers so much for a mountain home that is off the beaten path. Kids DID NOT get bored at all and the parents had enough to do as well with the multi-level spaces. For others wanting to rent, be aware the double queen room is in the 'basement' and there is no indoor entry/exit. It is a completely separate living area however it is amazing. It just wasnt great when a 5 month old baby especially with no refrigerator down there or when it was raining. I just think it is important for others to know this ahead of time. Also one other item to mention is the 'trek' to the dock. Once you are down there, it is perfection. But I don't think we were all prepared for the distance. Is it doable - absolutely and worth it but just important to bring to others attention. The owners were wonderful and accommodating. I truly hope this home was spared from Helene. We left 2 days before Helene hit.

Deceptive “creative” photos
Photos oversold this property. The road leading up to the property is unpaved/gravel uphill and dangerous without 4W drive. It is far from town/groceries/restaurants. The lake is a long treck from the home, we had young children and it took about 5 minutes carrying them down the steps. The downstairs “spa” add on had dangerous steep stairs (I have photos) and is not part of home- no staircase indoors down to the wellness area. The first day the power went out and we were unable to use the wellness area. The cold plunge pool full of dirt (photos). The hot tub full of dark hair when it says explicitly that it’s drained after every rental. The fireplace on porch and in master were inoperative. The owners sent a fantastic handyman, but he had to stand on the side of the mountain under the house to turn on the sub panel. This home was put together for photos to look ideal but it is dated and I would not call it “luxury”.

Amazing!
Everything about this property is perfect! All amenities are as advertised, and the house was completely spotless. The kids (ages 9 - 15) loved the bunk / game room and all the outdoor games. The views were incredible! Truly a tranquil retreat for when we wanted to relax, but never boring with all the different activities available. We all wished we could've stayed longer. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

Lakeside mountain retreat
Our family spent our annual vacation at this awesome mountain home. The house had beautiful views of the mountains and the lake from the wrap around deck. We spent time on the lake each and every day kayaking, swimming and fishing. We also enjoyed the firepit, sand volleyball court, and outdoor games that were provided. The house was clean and very well equipped. Our 9-14 year olds loved their cousin camp. The bunkroom was amazing, so fun for all of them. The hot tub was a relaxing evening activity. This is our first rental ever that our very active group chose to stay home for 2 entire days rather than hiking to waterfalls, tubing or rock climbing. My only suggestion would be for shades or curtains on the bedroom windows in the lower level that could be pulled as needed for privacy. Thanks for a fabulous week.

Great house for family fun!!
We had a great stay at this awesome property — the view, the privacy, the wrap-around porch, the game room — made for an awesome family weekend with my college kids and their friends! The house was spacious and offered spaces for everyone to do their own thing, but also tons of spaces for all of us to hang together! We especially loved the extended dining table which enabled us to gather together to eat and play cards/games! The game room was another awesome feature, we just wish the pool table was regulation size. The two big TVs was perfect for watching college football! While we didn’t feel comfortable having a fire because it was too windy, it was nice to have several options for fire pits! Great house! Great location! (Only 3 hours from Charlotte area, only 1 hour from Clemson, so it was a good place for us all to meet up for Fall Break!) I would definitely recommend Treetop!

Perfect house for kids!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Treetop Lakehouse! The house had everything we could have dreamed of to keep 6 boys (ages 8-15) entertained- canoeing/kayaking, fishing, corn hole, ski ball, air hockey, ping pong, and more. They loved sleeping in the same bunk room at “Camp Treetop”! The kitchen was well-stocked and the grill was great, makinh cooking for a group easy. Day trips to Brevard and Sassafras mountain were quick and lots of fun! It was a perfect long weekend getaway!

Simply Incredible
Following our elopement, my husband and I invited a few friends and family to celebrate with us in this gorgeous lakeside home. We couldn’t have asked for more with the incredible (truly) treetop views of the blue ridge and lakeside fire pit. We enjoyed the deck just as much as the cozy interior- made a delicious smoked brisket on the grill and opted for a catered sit down dinner on our last night. All of us slept comfortably. We will definitely be booking again in the future!

We brought our two sons and two of their friends, ages 12 and 14, to enjoy the area for a long weekend. We were pleasantly surprised to find the house much bigger than it seemed with a well-stocked kitchen, incredible views, comfortable beds, and lake kayaks and a canoe that kept us at the house more than our exploring. Brevard is just 30 minutes away and Sapphire Valley 30 min west was perfect for snow tubing (stop at Panthertown Cafe for awesome fried chicken). Jessica was responsive and communication was seamless. Will definitely be back!!

Spectacular home!
We absolutely loved the Treetop house. Unbelievable views of the rolling hills coupled with the dipping tree line and peaceful lake below created the most relaxing spot for our long weekend. The house has a great floor plan for hanging together and enjoying time apart as well. The kids loved the upstairs bunk room and games! So many fun surprises - toys in the kids closet, kayaks, canoe, and pedal boat with life jackets, fire pits, beautiful home decor, a Christmas tree!, nature walks, s’mores, and wonderful hospitality from the host. We will never forget our New Year’s Eve at Treetop and hope to return again!

The house was perfect for 3-60 something couples. When we arrived we walked out on the deck to admire the view (the house is called Treetops for a reason) and were glad to see a Christmas tree lit up inside. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed, including condiments and spices. Due to rainy weather we ate nearly every meal there. The tv room was perfect for watching the game. Go Navy

Great family get together
We had a great get together with three generations of family, plus the dog. Much of our time was spent outside on the large deck (the gated deck was great, safe for small children and the dog) or at the lake. The downstairs bedrooms were spacious and the upstairs camp room was great for kids. We enjoyed the dock, canoe, pedal boat, floating in the lake, walks in the woods, and the games and toys upstairs even made the rainy afternoon fun. I would highly recommend a stay at the Treetop Lake House. The house was comfortable for everyone and provided lots of privacy and lots of activities (both great in these days of COVID).

We were VERY impressed with this home and all it has to offer. Quiet, remote, scenic location. Exceptional deck with room for many people overlooking the nice pond. Inside the owners had thought of everything. The kitchen was outfitted with everything we needed. Every room was clean and very comfortable and logging in the TV's with our Netflix/you-tube TV was easy.
