The Old School is a spacious 3 bed property accommodating 5/6 people and set in one and a half acres comprising of orchard, paddock (now overlaid to lawn) and large sunny paved seating area. It enjoys a lovely southerly aspect and fabulous uninterrupted views of the Brecon Beacons, not only from the garden but from nearly every room in the house. It is only 3 miles from the bustling market town of Brecon with all its amenities and eateries, beautiful Cathedral, river and canal. In addition in August the town enjoys an annual jazz festival hosting a range of jazz musicians from across the world. The pretty town of Hay On Wye, famous for its bookstores and annual literary festival, is only half an hours drive away as is Llangorse lake, ideal for watersports and pony trekking in the hills around the lake. For golfers beautiful Cradoc golf club famed for its stunning scenery is just a mile up the road from the house and shares the same spectacular views.
Just 100 yards down the lane from the house is the river Yscir perfect for children to play in or to cool off on a hot summers day. From this point there are various footpaths in all different directions and a 20 minute walk over the bridge takes you up on to Aberyscir common. From here there are panoramic views of the Brecon Beacons, Black mountains and surrounding countryside. The Beacons Mountain centre is a 20 minute drive away, well worth a visit, and from either Brecon itself or Storey Arms there are 3 walking routes up to the summit of Pen Y Fan, an absolute must when visiting the area.
Whatever your activity for the day head back to the house to relax and unwind. In the summer enjoy a BBQ and a glass of wine in the garden where the children can play and you can take in the glorious views, or if the weather isn’t so good light the wood burner, hunker down and enjoy a meal in the cosy snug/ dining room.
The house is spacious with 2 living spaces with two televisions (one smart) great if children and parents want to watch different programs.
The house was a family home for many years so has very much a home from home feel. It has 3 bedrooms 1 king, 1 double and I single however there is an extra occasional bed in the main sitting room which can be put up to accommodate a sixth person., The room is large enough for this not to interfere with the seating arrangement as it is in a separate section of the room so does not have to be put away each night. It could however also be assembled upstairs in one of the other bedrooms to accommodate children if necessary. There are 2 bathrooms, one upstairs and a handy shower room downstairs just off the utility room.
Outside, just behind the house, there are some pretty-outbuildings ( which used to be the Old school toilets! ) where bikes can be stored and where you will find cushions and an umbrella for the outdoor furniture.
Finally, although the area nearby has enough to keep you busy for a week if you wish to go further afield then there are various attractions to suit everyone. 20 miles away is Bike Park Wales, the UK’s premier bike park with 28 descending trails organised in a similar manner to a ski resort! Dan yr Ogof caves are a similar distance so also is the Four waterfalls walk . For the kids there is Zip World in Tower Colliery and for bird watching enthusiasts go and see the red kites feeding at Llandeussant 20miles west of Brecon but still within the Brecon Beacons National park.
