Our stay at this property was fun, convenient for the activities we were doing, and easy to find. Harry was very accommodating! My only request is that common kitchen items like salt, pepper, cooking oil, and coffee be available for use.
If you are looking for a high decor home, this is not your house.
However, this stripped down house has all the basics provided, warm, clean comfy beds, large kitchen and an open first floor plan that makes it perfect for a gathering of families and friends! It is in a quiet neighborhood, but super close to any shopping you need to do, and to the commuter rail. Harry is very accommodating - we were looking for a wine opener and asked Harry, and in about 5 minutes we had one delivered to the door!
Not only was everything just as advertised, but things were even better. There were many things that we did not have to purchase because our host provided them (dish washing liquid, dish washer soap, clothes detergent, toilet tissue, paper towels, etc). The kitchen was easy to use and the gas range was wonderful.
Harry was very responsive! I communicated with him several times, but had only one question about an issue.. When I had questions about the television, he responded immediately and actually brought an additional remote to the house while we were out so that we would have an easier time with it.
The house is in a lovely residential area that is only an easy 35 minutes from Boston proper (we went into town a couple of times.) There is a park nearby for young ones and good restaurants are also nearby if you do not wish to cook. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful. There were no noisy neighbors or problems.
The house was perfect for us. We loved the fireplace and enjoyed cooking in the kitchen. We would absolutely stay again!
I had expected the VRBO listed amenities to be safe and in working order, they weren't. Upon arrival the common bathroom upstairs toilet had water running, the sink drain was plugged, and the toilet seat was extremely loose. I adjusted the water level in the toilet and removed a huge wad of hair from the sink drain. In the master br bath I replaced three of the four light bulbs over the sink that were burnt out. One of the sinks had the cold water shut off, hot water only extremely hot it would burn. In the kitchen I unjammed the garbage disposal, I had to clean the screen in the dishwasher inorder for it to drain. The burners on the stove are somewhat clogged with burnt on debris so the spark ignitors don't work, had to light them with a butane lighter. The oven ignitor would come on but would not light the gas. The owner said get on the floor stick your hand and lighter in the burner to light. I asked him to do it he refused. There are NO operating instructions for anything in this rental. There is an unmarked switch with a broken switch plate on the wall that turns power off to the dishwasher discovered with trial and error. While trying to get the dishwasher to work I found the electrical circuit breakers hidden out of sight behind a refrigerator that I had to move in order to check if tripped. This is an electrical code safety violation. A cupboard door was taped closed. Later after using the clothes washer we discovered the clothes dryer did not work which the owner said he knew about. The washer and dryer were plugged into a power strip, not up to electrical code, there was no visible gas shut off, not that I needed to shut the gas off. We also discovered lots of black mold under a wooden bath mat and mold on both shower curtains. All three of the toilets have very loose seats that slide around. The yard had not been maintained high grass and knee high weeds. There is a pot by the deck with standing water for mosquitoes to breed. The owner was difficult to contact, not responsive. He later said to call a number on a post it note with no name by an empty phone jack. We lost almost a full day of our stay waiting for Harry to show up and address the issues. He said he is "learning". How long? He said over a year!! When you rent through VRBO you expect that what is represented in the property description to operate safely and properly. He took care of most of the mold, nothing else. He did a small refund. There are more issues with maintenance
harry was an excellent host. he made the check in process so easy and his property was perfect for my family gathering. it was stocked with all of the necessary amenities and harry was very helpful throughout the whole process. highly recommend!
The house was just what we needed. Three couples, three bedrooms.
Plenty of space on the first floor to sit and socialize. The house had everything we needed. The back deck was great when it wasn't too hot outside.
Overall great house - communication could have been better
Overall I would absolutely recommend this house & would stay at the house again. It was well-maintained & in a great, quiet location (within walking distance of a park & some local restaurants). I have only two complaints/suggested improvements. (1) Although I received a message from the property manager that the property was ready for check-in, not all rooms had bedding & there was minimal towels in the bathrooms (we found them downstairs in the laundry) and there were not clear instructions for the house as the property manager said would be there (for example, wifi & tv information). (2) There was a complete lack of communication from the property manager prior to the check-in day. I had to reach out to the manager when it was 24-hours before check-in & I was not provided any information. Once I reached out the property manager was very responsive, but I would have expected him/her to be the first to initiate contact.
