Have a quintessential lakefront vacation at this cabin on two lush acres, including 350 feet of private lakefrontage and two kayaks! The outside might be where you spend the most time, as it has all the waterfront vacation classics: ladder golf and outdoor seating. Renovated but with a classic Maine cabin vibe, you can tuck in here for quiet afternoons by the lake or quickly get out and explore. Though the setting is private, this home is about three miles from Boothbay Harbor, called “The Soul of the Maine Coast,” and the gorgeous 270-acre Coastal Maine Botanical Garden! The house is also just a few minutes from several of the Boothbay Region Land Trust Preserves. There are 30 miles of year-round hiking trails free of charge. Enjoy meadows, forests, wetlands, scenic vistas, and the natural beauty of the Boothbay region.

Inside, warm wood walls and floors gleam in the natural light. The living area features a large TV and a collection of DVDs, Roku with Netflix, HBO GO, and board games for family nights in. A picture window anchors this room and looks out to the lawn and quiet, inviting Knickerbocker Lake. Our home offers baseboard heating in each room to keep you warm for when the weather gets cold.

Gathering together is easy, thanks to the open floor plan. This home, which is 864 square feet, features an open dining area that sits between the living room and kitchen, great for prepping picnics and pancake breakfasts. There’s a fridge, a small electric stove, a microwave, and a coffeemaker.

The main bedroom has a desk area.

A quaint retreat
Other than a few minor things like a musty smell which is almost expected of these types of cottages it was very comfortable and peaceful.

Rustic cabin *NOT Cottage*
We were not impressed by this property. We stayed 2 nights. First impressions matter and our first view of the property, we actually drove by it. It may be on 2 acres, but the cleared area has the cabin and then 4 other apparently abandoned buildings on the property. The living area is ok, but the kitchen was not adequate. Honestly, the entire place looked like it had been appointed with garage sale or dumpster diving finds. The refrigerator/freezer had broken door shelves limiting your storage. The oven, while preheating, set off the fire alarm. The adults that stayed upstairs had to deal with insects and spiders. The shower felt like it was actually rocking back and forth when you were in it. The description mentions 350' of lake frontage, but the only access is the dock. This house is actually managed by Vacasa, so if you have a question like I did about the drinkability of the water, they have no answers for you.

Lots to love but….
My family of 4 enjoyed our stay. The space was just right size. We loved the lake access and took advantage of the good weather by swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. We expected there to be bugs as this is a wooded area on a lake however, we were disposing of, at minimum, 10-20 earwigs and a plethora of ants throughout the house everyday! We were even having them fall from the ceiling while we slept, which made for very uncomfortable sleeping. We had a few rainy days but there was plenty for us to do in the house such as puzzles, games, books, and movies. Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor were so fun! So much going on all day, everyday. It was a little disappointing that everything shut down between 7-9pm every night but we made due. Overall we would return and recommend this property to our family and friends.

Nice enough, but likely wouldn’t return.
First off, Boothbay Harbor is amazing. I want to move there. This property is in good proximity of the harbor. However, it leaves a lot to be desired. I guess “renovated” is a relative term. Having not seen the cabin pre-renovation, I can’t really tell what was renovated. It was not bad or gross, but there were just things that could use some refreshing. The refrigerator is extremely small and outdated. It’s small and the door to the fridge is completely useless. It has no bars to hold things in the door which severely limits capacity. No ice maker, but that wasn’t a huge deal. It also makes a rattling noise the entire time. I think the noise stopped for maybe 10 minutes the entire 4 days we were there. The stove is also very small and the oven didn’t work all that well. The living room is comfortable enough. Furniture could probably be replaced, but it worked. AC/Heat Pump in living room worked really well. Kept the downstairs nice and cool. TV was fine with a Roku that you can sign into your own accounts. Bathroom was small, but manageable. Lots of hot water. Master bedroom was cozy. Bed was comfortable. No TV in bedroom. The air unit in the master was not working. Or, at least as compared to the one in the main living space. It never really got the room cool. It is the exact same unit as the other, but it never worked. I contacted VACASA but they never responded. Upstairs: Do not rent this unit in the summer if you plan on having people sleep upstairs. This is a perfect summer cottage for 2 people, not 4. If fans had been provided it would have been manageable. There were two upright oscillating fans, but only one kinda worked. It was loud and wobble. The other did not work at all. One of my daughters managed in the double bed room. The other slept downstairs. Hopefully the owner will invest in some fans for the upstairs. The dock, kayaks and canoe were great. We spent a lot of time on and in the lake. There are huge spiders that get on the dock, but you are in the woods, just be forewarned. The outside did need some TLC. The bushes need to be trimmed and there are weeds growing from the gutter. It would be great if this cottage has an outdoor seating area attached to the house (deck, porch). We didn’t spend any time at the fire pit or table, but it’s there. One of the biggest drawbacks is the driveway. It’s downright dangerous to pull out. It’s extremely steep and pulls out onto a road that has a curve and hill to your left. Additionally, there are overgrown bushes that make it impossible to see anything coming from the left. It’s not a super busy road, but there is traffic, and the cars are going kinda fast. I thought I was going to get in a wreck anytime I pulled out. If someone gave me a free trip to Maine and this was my option of lodging, I would go. But I would not book this unit again if given the choice.

Beatiful Lakeside Cabin
Perfect location for our visit. Very nearby everything! Grocery store also very close. The yard and privacy was the best part! The dock and lake are beautiful. The owner must have read past comments bc the cabin was clean and after staying a full week didnt see a single bug inside. There IS a charcoal grill, which the vrbo reps were unable to realize. The only few issues - zero contact with the owner. You have to go through vrbo for simple questions that they dont know the answer to. The sinks drainage also struggles (no garbage disposal). But overall, still an excellent stay! Tip: Go slowly entering the property. The angle coming into the driveway is very steep. After a few attempts at an angle you'll figure it out, just a heads up.

Bare minimum & Scary checkin
This is a lovely place and we enjoyed Boothbay and our vacation. The cabin is OK. Our first impression was not ideal as we checked in after dark and it was freaky. The front door is overgrown and didn't realize you have to walk through dark scary garage before entering house. The number is on the house but not clear from the road. Also there is a creepy red light on the locked basement door. We were drawing straws to see who wanted to walk in first... Ceilings upstairs are low! Pictures are deceiving. Once it was daylight the property is nice, quiet and kayaks with lakefront access. But it doesn't feel like the owner cares much. No towels for lake, 1 towel per person for 1 week stay. AC units are known issues but owner won't replace. Twin beds are terrible - honestly thought it was air mattress, not for adults. Complimentary shampoo and conditioner was 1 mini bottle each for 6 people. Microwave wasn't good. Toaster doesn't work. This place is fine but for what you're paying it deserves a bit of TLC.

Great Lakeside Getaway
Friends gathered in Boothbay for birding and exploring. This lovely older home, which appears to be a generational family getaway, was the perfect spot to relax and stay in. It’s tucked away from the town in a rustic setting but an easy few minutes to drive to downtown. It only has one bathroom, but the house had enough amenities and space to spread out. The rooms were comfortable and outfitted with acs in each, which was appreciated. The location is central to get to downtown Boothbay and stores, the botanical gardens, and several beach areas.

Nice little Maine cabin
The cabin was adorable. The property/ bushes could have been trimmed down to make the curb appeal a bit nicer, but the cabin was overall very nice. They had board games for the kids, life jackets in a couple different sizes, and even some fishing poles. We hung out towards the bay during our stay and unfortunately did not utilize the lake, but it was still a nice added feature.

Rustic but needs upkeep
Enjoyed the lakeside views, use of kayaks and canoe and the large backyard for charcoal grilling and the wood fire pit. Boothbay is scenic and has great shops and restaurants Photos of the house show the rustic cabin vibe but unfortunately not the neglect. From cobwebs in the windows, overgrown weeds on the front door and crumbling exterior and sagging side buildings, the property left a poor first impression. Also the place was filthy and the electronic deadbolt didnt work and the lockbox keys were missing necessitating an hours wait for the Vacasa rep to let us in with the spare key The property provided nice amenities such as movies, games, boats and a large scenic backyard and updated mini split cooling but the property needs maintenance and cleaning to be five star

Beautiful location
This property was definitely a typical back woodsy cabin on a lake, which is exact what we were looking for and would have been perfect but for a few minor notables - there did not appear to have been any extensive spring cleaning done as the windowsills were filled with leaves and pine needles and there was a bug hanging from a cobweb in the upstairs bedroom. Also, the blind in the downstairs bedroom was filthy and broken. The refrigerator also definitely could stand to be replaced. The lake is beautiful and the kayaks were wonderful so that was a plus. If you are looking for immaculate and fancy this is definitely not the place for you but if you want a nice camp with lake access, kayaking and good fishing this cabin will suit your needs. To the property managers credit, they did attempt to connect with me a few times through their local office after I expressed my initial dissatisfaction of the cleanliness. At that point we were already settled in and I didn’t really want to be bothered, so I left it alone.

Great, secluded location
Wonderful little camp on the lake, down to that nostalgic rural lake camp smell. The well pump wasn't working correctly but the staff dealt with it in 24 hours. The beds are very comfortable and this is a great place to kick back and chill.
