!!Hot Tub!! - Edge of Gros Morne Park - Explorers, family & Snowmobilers home

Situated on the edge of Big Bonne Bay Pond and Gros Morne National Park our 1800 sq foot beachfront vacation house offers beautiful views of the lake, rolling hills and wildlife. While houses are on either side of the property, large trees keep the house secluded.

The property is situated on the very edge of Gros Morne National Park with a large ecological preserve just outside your master bedroom. Opportunities exist to watch moose, ducks and other wildlife while sitting on your deck or in the vast gardens soaking up the fresh air while having your morning coffee. When you have finished your coffee take a stroll along the beach and have a look for tracks to see if you had any moose visit you overnight.

Exploring Gros Morne national park is a geographically challenged task. Our home is situated in the middle of the park, 40 minutes from the Tablelands Mountains and 1 hour from Western Brook pond. Being centrally located is perfect to head out for your daily adventures.

The House is equipped with all the amenities you will need for your stay. Use the fully equipped oak kitchen to prepare your food however you like it. With a fish plant and full grocery facilities nearby you’ll have lots of opportunity to enjoy fresh lobster, cod and all kinds of ocean treats. We have a lobster pot and outdoor propane cooker at the house so you can enjoy a traditional outdoor lobster feast. If you need more supplies for the house a corner store is only 5 km away and the City of Deer Lake is only a short 15 minute drive.

There are 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a Queen bed with large windows overlooking the lake and the ecological preserve. The second bedroom has a Queen bed. The third bedroom has two twin beds. There is additional sleeping possibilities in the finished basement. Otherwise the large leather sectional couch can even add another sleeping location.

At the end of the day there are several choices to relax. A campfire in the stone fire pit will allow you to reflect on your days adventures while you roast some marshmallows and look at the stars. There is also a 7 person, 80 jet, 3 waterfall deluxe hot tub to help soothe your muscles after a day of hiking, snowmobiling, boating, four wheeling or whatever adventures your day entailed.

If the weather decides not to cooperate our house is equipped with lots of activities. The basement is fully furnished with a Plasma TV, Satellite HD receiver, blue ray player, movies, books, satellite internet and board games.

Every season offers a reason to return to the Chateau. Whether its snowmobiling on the number one rated trail in the world, ice fishing, four wheeling, sea doing, boating, hiking or just relaxing with a book in the fresh air , a stay at Chateau Shady Loop offers it all.

Beautiful atmosphere, very clean and comfortable.
Ideal for a longer stay to truly enjoy the surroundings, yard and decks etc., while all the conveniences are great even for short periods. The proximity to the Gros Morne national park makes it a superb location.

Great stay at Bonne Bay Big Pond
Wonderful location for visiting Gros Morne park. Hosts were very responsive with all my questions leading up to the visit as we were flying in and didn't know what we should bring. Beds were very comfortable and clean, kitchen was well equipped and hot tub worked great after long days of exploring the park. Thank you for opening up this gem of a cottage to visitors :).

Loved it!
We loved this tranquil property. It was ideally situated to explore Gros Morne, while still being close to Deer Lake for the airport and grocery needs. Everything was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped. We can highly recommend it.

Wonderful property
The Shady Loop was a wonderful place to stay. The location is ideal to see everything in the Gros Morne area. We fully enjoyed the beautiful home that was well supplied in all your traveling needs and wants. Jen and Joel where very helpful in all our planning and questions we had. I would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to the west coast of Newfoundland.

That View Tho!!
My wife and I wanted to get away for a few days with our new 4 month old, after looking around online I stumbled on to Chateau Shady Loop. The pictures looked good and it was in the location we wanted. The booking was very easy and I really liked the way the property was managed and the pin code door lock was nice as we did not have to pick up any keys. The cabin was beautiful with an amazing view over the pond, everything you needed was supplied and was very well kept. We will be booking again soon!!

Great place to stay, great hosts, great venue
Our biggest mistake was limiting our time in Gros Morne. We stayed for 3 days. Just enough time to soak in the area, do a hike or two, and head to the Tablelands and Western Brook Pond. Both are highly recommended. The house was in great shape when we arrived, and Deer lake was close enough to get supplies in and out. Bring some bug spray depending on the season! We started our days with a hearty breakfast, sat out on the deck overlooking the water, and then headed out for our day trip. Came home for dinner to a well stocked kitchen and a bbq, and finished the evening with a hot tub and a game. All amenities were clean, comfortable, and we had access to real people should problems occur (they didn't). Thanks Jen and Joel for a great stay! We will be back!

A great base for exploring Gros Morne
Our party was comprised of 2 couples. The house is conveniently located, especially for exploring the South part of Gros Morne National Park, and further afield to Corner Brook. It is well-equipped with all the necessities. We did not use the hot tub. The owners Jen and Joel provide plenty of useful information, both by email and telephone. We found Coleman's supermarket in Deer Lake to be the best - as suggested by Jen and Joel. A brief power outage stopped the running water, but a call to maintenance brought a fix in 10 minutes. The view of the Big Bonne Bay Pond is nice, but access to the water and beach area is not the greatest.

Great place to stay!
While the name is a mite pretentious...CSL offers excellent accomodation in a beautiful setting convenient for area attractions. In fact the place was so nice it was a struggle to leave it to visit Gros Morne etc when, with kids, we could just as well hang around in the hot tub, play on the beach etc etc. The bungalow was spotlessly clean and well equipped with all you would need. The set up worked well for us as a party of a family of four upstairs and a couple in the (above ground) basement. It is possible for 8 people to stay using airbeds but I'd suggest this would get crowded for any more than a day or so. Only complaint was the hot tub is on a timer which meant it got cold during the days as we used it so much. We had to call the hot tub guru from next door to override the settings. We'd certainly consider staying here again either in summer or winter for the excellent snowmobiling in the area.

Lovely, well equipped home
We found the house quite easily with no issues getting into the property. It is a lovely home, that was clean and well equipped with the basic utensils for cooking. The home is as lovely as the pictures reflect. Comfortable beds. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub after a long days hiking. Unfortunately for us the jets on the hot tub wouldn't work after the first night. We tried calling the property manager about it and although we were there another two days, never did receive a response back and were not able to use the hot tub again afterwards. That was the only downside to the stay (and disappointing since the hot tub was the clincher to us renting the property over others). The truly disappointing part was not that it broke down, that happens, it was the lack of response from the property manager or the owners whom were also emailed about it. To date, a month later I haven't received any acknowledgement at all that I even tried contacting either of them. Otherwise the house was great for a family of 5. We enjoyed exploring the shore as well as the many hiking trails in close proximity. Beautiful find.

Loved Newfoundland
We had 5 adults who spent the last 4 days of our trip at Chateau Shady Loop. It was a fantastic way to end a wonderful holiday. The location is private but easy driving distance to anything in Gros Morne and to Deer Lake. You could explore and hike the area and then come back to a beautiful deck with a view of the lake to relax. The hot tub was a wonderful to ease our aches and the short walk to the beach was great as a few of the days were very hot and a swim was the best way to cool down. The pictures do reflect the home and amenities. It is beautifully decorated and the kitchen provided you with anything you could possibly need..including a small TV. Joel was fantastic to deal with. When we initially chatted about the rental he spent a hour talking about all the things to do and see in the area and on our entire trip around Newfoundland. I found that very helpful when finalizing our plans. Any time I emailed him prior to our visit he got back to me very quickly. We also received a very detailed information package prior to our leaving which included everything from hospital and medical locations, to hiking trails and maps and where to get the best deal on wine. If you are going to newfoundland you should not miss Gros Morne...and especially the boat trip on Western Brook Pond and having Shady Loop to go back to makes it even more unforgettable. Thank you Joel and Jennifer for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Good Location
The location is perfect and really convenient to both Deer Lake and Gros Morne. It is in a quiet location and there are peaceful views. There is plenty of room for two adults and we appreciated the two satellite TV's on different floors so we could watch different shows. The deck is really nice and the views from the deck are beautiful. There is free Wifi (although it was very slow for us) and we really liked the gorgeous tile and wood floors. The kitchen and dining room table are very convenient but there were things missing that we have found to be standard in other rentals (in our travels in North America). There were no dish sponges, no paper towels, no napkins, no Ziploc bags, no cling wrap, no coffee, no tea, no body wash, etc. We have stayed at many rentals all over North America and have never had to bring those things to the rental regardless of the cost (even the lower end rentals had the above items). We wish this information was made clear to us before we arrived as we stopped at the grocery store on our way there (as Deer Lake is on the way and it was raining and dark by the time we arrived). For this price point, we were disappointed that these items were not provided. The other big thing that was a problem for us and was really a huge disappointment was the bedding. The website advertised luxury 720 thread count sheets but that was false advertising. We never even knew polyester sheets existed before we stayed here but after attempting to sleep on them the first night, we checked the label and were shocked that they were polyester. They literally sparked if we rubbed our hands over them -- polyester sheets, really? What happened to luxury 720 thread count cotton sheets? Polyester is not comfortable nor is it breathable and the sheet provided was not big enough for the bed so one of us (and neither of us are big people) was always uncovered. There is also a foam mattress topper over the mattress which makes the bed very high and although there is a plastic step stool provided, the sheets (fitted and flat) didn't fit over the foam mattress topper so they kept snapping off. The shower curtain needs to be washed or replaced. It was half brown on the bottom half (from mildew and use) and half white at the top. And some of the towels were stained so we washed them before using. Overall it's a nice house in a great location but it could use some some attention in certain areas, especially the bedding.

Not quite perfect
The review focuses on the property itself, not the location (etc). We arrived in late July as remnants of a hurricane left. The temperature dropped to about 12 outside, and the interior of the house was both damp & smelt musty. We could not turn the heating on, dehumidification in the basement cooled it off, and did not impact the humidity. The basement shower (we had been advice of this prior to arrival) was not-functioning, and was not usable during our stay. The result was the basement was thus not habitable. Kitchen and dining area were as expected, hot tub was good. The single beds squeaked. The rest was a reduced living space for two mature couples, when the expectation was different.

Enjoyed our stay very much. Relaxing in the hot tub was a big plus. Only drawback was door in downstairs shower was broken so, one shower amongst five people. Tried to contact property managers but cell number out of service and no response to messages left on voicemail of the other number given.

Secluded cottage in a central location
Western Newfoundland is a hiker's paradise, and Bonne Bay Pond is a comfortable and convenient home base for your explorations. Western Brook Pond, the Tablelands and Deer Lake are all within a fairly short drive. For a longer outing, make your way to Corner Brook and then west to land's end at Bottle Cove. The trails there are fairly easy, and the views are stunning!
