Spacious Converted Chapel in Snowdonia

Chapel Bethel was last used as a Chapel in 1982 and had been unused and unloved until we started the conversion which was completed early in 2006. It is a fantastic property set over three floors and offers spacious and flexible accommodation for a large family or number of families.

Trawsfynydd is located within the Snowdonia National Park and is within easy driving distance of Zip World, Snowdon, Porthmadog, Portmerion Italianate Village, Ffestiniog Railway, Llechwedd Slate Caverns and Harlech Castle. The fantastic beaches at Cardigan Bay and the Llyn Penisula are nearby. There is a good selection of shops within the village and pubs serving food close by.

On the ground floor are two bedrooms - one double and one twin. Also on the ground floor is a bathroom with separate bath and shower. The well appointed kitchen, dining area with seating for 12 and comfortable sitting area can also be found on the ground floor. The kitchen is fitted with a built in double electric oven and a 5 ring gas hob. There is a large fridge and separate chest freezer plus plenty of pots, pans, cutlery and crockery.

On the mezzanine floor there is a second sitting area with wood burner and TV with freeview and a DVD player. There is also a bedroom with bunk beds and a cloakroom.

On the top floor there are three further bedrooms - one double with en-suite shower room, one single and a family room with one double bed and 2 single beds. There is also a bathroom on this floor with separate bath and shower.

Due to the nature of the building, there are secondary means of escape from the first floor. Only able bodied people can be accommodated in the mezzanine and 1st floor bedrooms.

Outside is parking for up to three cars and there is a garden area with feature slate table with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

Heating is provided by gas central heating.

There is no WiFi at the property

All bedding is provided but you’ll need to bring your own towels.

Great family stay
We were a bit shocked when we arrived that the property was situated on a narrow road with houses on either side and opposite. Soon got used to the parking as there is room for three cars on the drive. Location is very picturesque and the kids loved it down by the river in the village. The bedrooms and living spaces were fantastic. Only negative was the unpleasant drain smell which we could not get rid of, even after the host suggested running plenty of water down the traps.

Ideally located
We enjoyed our stay here, it’s ideally located in a village but with a shop nearby. We were three families and the layout of the property was ideal for this. We visited Snowdon and the deep mine which are both about a 20 minute drive away

We loved The Chapel
This was perfect for our family of 11 across 3 generations, especially being able to dine all art one table. Location was handy for our cycling and walking outings and not far from the wonderful beach at Harlech. We all had a lovely time, thank you.

great find for relaxing weekend
very spacious and accommodating property that made for a great base for a sociable weekend. Great location with easy walk from front door into countryside. Convenient local pub, though can’t say what it was like as the chapel was too comfy to leave, with a great kitchen for cooking in.

Lovely family holiday
Such a beautiful and spacious home, we felt it had all we needed and much more, lots of space for our 4 families to get togethe. Well set out and excellent space for everyone to be able to eat, cook and play together with everything that we needed. The kids loved the upstairs seating area as the was so much space for them to play. The adults loved we could keep an eye on them while we had space to cook and enjoy the safe feeling they were close by. The bedroom very spacious and nicely laid out and lovely and clean. The area is lovely loads to visit only short car ride away. The host is very helpful snd friendly.

Great space for a large group.
This is a lovely property with good sized rooms and plenty of bathrooms, so it was ideal for our mixed group of adults and children . It is well equipped and has a lovely big table to seat 12 - 14 people. It would benefit from a bit of attention to detail - a few faults that need fixing and the beds and bedding really need an upgrade as they are not comfortable. Overall, we had a great stay in this beautiful area.

Family mini break
We were a group of 7 adults and 1 toddler and found the property a great place to stay.It is located only a short drive from the lovely beaches of Harlech and Barmouth, and Zipworld, which is great fun. The property is spacious and well equipped and provided everything we needed. Although parking is limited it wasn’t an issue for us. I would definitely go back again and recommend to family and friends.

A really lovely place to stay
We all enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. It worked really well for grandchildren from two 3 yos to 20, safe for the little ones to go from floor to floor, and we all liked the way we could be in different spaces but we could hear eachother which was very companionable. We welcomed the good number of bathrooms and loos. Wonderful kitchen / dining area which encouraged all our gang to join in cooking and clearing, and great for us all to sit round the fabulous table. Our littlest one had been concerned about a freezer bit enough for his ice-cream reqirements, it was ( phew) and kindly supplied with a generous stock by Kath. Thnaks Caroline and family

Large and cheap space for families
The space is large and cheaper than most places for multiple families to stay. The double metal frame beds are not really suitable for 2 individuals you end up sinking in the middle, but the divan and the singles where ok. The house was genarlly clean with some dusting required around the lamps and corners of the rooms. All in all we had a lovely time.

Quirky but spacious.
Plenty of room for all to have own personal quiet time, plus shared areas big enough for everyone. We didn't miss WiFi because we took games and played together. There's parking for three cars but it's tricky to get in/out if all the neighbours are home as it's a narrow street. The children loved hearing and spotting sheep. Great location for steam trains and beaches.

Great size for a big group
Plenty of space. Well equipped. Beds were comfortable and road very quiet. We had two 7 seater cars and would not have fitted a third in! We walked including Snowdon which was very busy (Pyg and Miners) as well as other mountains which were very quiet. Harlech was good - beach, castle and steepest street. We also swam in the fairy glen. Very cold. So much more to do but we ran out of time. Thank you.

The accomodation was lovely but it needs more cleaning and maintenance as there was a few oroblems
Lovely but we would not go back until it had a thorough clean and sort out the maintenance problems.I messaged Kath about a few problems which she promptly replied but one of the problems was a broken toilet seat on our first day and the smell in the same bathroom but it was never repaired or sorted .

Large, Well-Equipped House with a View
Our large family group thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Trawsfynydd. We had one family with two small children, an aunt, and three grandparents all traveling together. There was plenty of space and options for room arrangements. This would be a wonderful property for several families with children meeting up together, as there are several trundle beds and baby cribs- there is also a trunk of toys! The kitchen had evening needed for cooking meals. The house was very clean. Check in was easy. The beds, as others have mentioned, were a bit springy, but the rooms were cosy, and after being out hiking/sight seeing during the day, we slept well. The property was very centrally located in Snowdonia- a great jumping off point for many locations. The view from the backyard was very nice, and we really enjoyed looking through the photos of the renovation. Another reviewer had mentioned something about water/plumbing issues in the top bathroom- I was a little nervous about it before it arrival, but there was no need to worry- the bathrooms were all in great condition and everything worked properly. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Pictures over promise, TLC required
First impressions are good, large spacious property. However the closer you look the more disappointing you become. Making your own beds after a long journey isn't ideal. A bit of a local information pack would be helpful, amenities etc. Had to clean the entire cutlery draw on arrival, also found dirty cups in cupboard. Some new plates and bowls would be a fairly inexpensive improvement. Overall the cleanliness was disappointing. Two of the double mattresses are lumpy and have a dip to the middle. The top floor bathroom w/c pan has a brown stain, due to the constant running of water overflowing from the cistern. This isn't an overnight thing. It must of been running for days if not weeks. Sadly this reflects poor maintenance and the lack of reinvestment.

Tired and dirty. Lots of potential but needs cleaning and updating throughout. Far from 'luxury'.
This spacious converted chapel should have been the perfect place to stay for 6 adults and 4 small children, but sad to say, we found it unclean, very tired, and at times unsafe. On arrival it became clear that the house (and outside area) had not been adequately cleaned. Inside the house, none of the bathrooms (including toilets) had been cleaned since the last guests, and there was a general feeling of dirt everywhere. One of the bathrooms had toothpaste stains on the floor, the shower base was filled with black mould, the showerhead was broken and the towel rail was covered in rust. The signs in the bedrooms said not to move the furniture, but whilst pulling the beds out to put on the sheets (you have to do this yourself) it was apparent that no one had cleaned behind or under the beds for some time. It was dirty and disgusting. The mattresses looked old and stained. I understand that this is a holiday let, but I would at least have expected a deeper clean than someone just running a hoover around and thinking that was enough. Strangely, outside the house, slices of bread, tortillas and crackers had been left all over the large garden table, apparently for some time. One of our party spent the first half an hour removing mouldy and soggy bread from the table, which was a pretty grim start to the holiday. In the kitchen there were crumbs in the drawers. The kettle leaked boiling water when it was poured, and one of the shelves in the fridge was broken. There were light bulbs that hadn’t been checked and the batteries in the remote controls also failed to work. The carpet on the stairs was completely worn away and one of the children twice cut his heel on something sharp that was sticking up through the worn carpet. We kept shoes on after that. This house has so much potential but it is in urgent need of a deep clean, fresh paint, and some major repairs to the carpets, bathrooms, rickety beds and kitchen equipment. Kath did arrange maintenance very quickly for a broken u-bend under the sink which flooded one of the bathrooms, but I feel that the owners ought to check the house in person to see the state it is falling into. Almost every issue above has been mentioned in previous reviews, but it appears none of the complaints have been addressed. I’m sorry, but despite the size and location of the house, we wouldn’t recommend it, or want to return.
