Vacation in architectural monument combines heritage conservation and tourism. Historically valuable buildings are taken over, gently renovated and rented out as holiday flats. The model provides a double benefit: the monuments are given a new future and the holiday guests experience a stay in an exceptional building. The idea is being realised by the foundation Vacation in architectural monument (FiB), which was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Heritage Society
Car park: There is a covered car park right next to the house. The house is situated on a slope and can be reached via a gravelled path. The partly steep stairs and uneven floors pose a tripping hazard. The doors in the house are very low. The floorboards in the parlour are original and have been walked on for centuries with nailed shoes. Good slippers are recommended.
Public transport: The public transport connections are unfortunately not ideal. By train to Grengiols. The train station is a 15-minute walk from the village centre, then it's another 30-minute walk to Zenhäusern.
Number of persons 6: A baby cot (up to 2 years) is available. The house can accommodate six guests (plus baby). From the entrance you enter the corridor to the right, which leads directly into the very cosy kitchen, from there you enter the dining room where there is also a typical regional box bed. Two doors lead from the parlour to the bedrooms. To the left of the corridor there is a shower/WC and a separate WC. There is a double room, a room with a bunk bed and a double bed for two people in the parlour.
Garden: The covered seating area is available to holiday guests.
WLAN: Is available.
Open: The house can be rented all year round. Short stays only at Easter, Ascension or Whitsun.
Pets: Are not allowed.
Altitude: 1080 metres above sea level.
Extras: The partly steep stairs and uneven floors pose a tripping hazard. The doors in the house are very low. The floorboards in the parlour are original and have been walked on for centuries with nailed shoes. Good slippers are recommended. The historic house was not fitted with a soundproof ceiling. It can happen that the guest party in the other flat is heard. There is a road behind the house.
The whole house can be rented: A steep staircase connects the flat on the ground floor with the one above. If you wish to connect the flats, please make a note of this when making your reservation. The connection requires a small conversion, which cannot be carried out by the guests.
IMPORTANT ADDITION
The Belwalder-Gitschhüs is a listed building that has been renovated with great respect for the existing fabric. The tenant is aware of this and treats the property with care. Although the technical equipment is up-to-date, certain functional details do not meet current standards and are a potential source of danger. The tenant is aware of these circumstances. The owner, e-domizil and the foundation Vacation in architectural monument disclaim any liability.
