Hey friend! 🐝 Buzzing with excitement to tell you about The Hive, a gem in Birmingham's Southside - such a prime spot! It's super close to UAB and St. Vincent's, plus heaps of cool restaurants and places to see, all within walking distance.

The Hive is one side of a duplex (its twin, Honeysuckle, is right next door and also up for short stays). We did a total makeover in 2020, stripping it back to its bones and transforming it into this cozy haven.

It's an ideal hangout for up to 4 people, thanks to its open plan and a kitchen that's perfect for gathering and munching. I had a blast designing this space – from choosing the comfiest furniture to the coolest little accessories that make it feel like home.

And the best part? We're all about embracing diversity here. No matter who you are or where you're from, you'll feel right at home in our vibrant, inclusive neighborhood. Can't wait for you to check it out!

The Space:
We love hosting awesome guests like you... after all, we've created this space around sophisticated guests who want to feel at home when they are away! BTW, we do allow fur babies (dogs only... too many allergies with cats) with a small additional charge! If you want a rundown of what to expect during your stay at the Hive, read on to find out more about each room in the Hive:

Guest Access:
Guests access the property through the front door of Unit B using a digital lock that is programmed with a code specifically for them. The lock will not work until the house rules/disclosures are signed by the booking guest.

The Neighborhood:
The house is located right on the edge of Highland Park and the downtown neighborhood of Five Points South. It's a diverse, urban neighborhood and we welcome guests of all genders, races, and religions! You'll see a lot of construction a couple blocks down where they are building a new housing and entertainment district!

Getting Around:
Unfortunately, a car is pretty necessary if you need to go anywhere outside walking distance although there is UBER and a few Lime scooters around!

Other Things to Note:
**PLEASE READ ALL OF THE HOUSE RULES/DISCLOSURES BEFORE BOOKING:**

HOUSE RULES:
The following rules will be sent via a form link 2 days before your stay and must be signed off on to ensure understanding. The digital lock will not work until this document is signed. These rules are in place to attract the best guests who treat our house just like their home! Thanks for understanding!

• The person making the reservation must be one of the guests staying & must be at least 25 years old

• The government issued ID of the person making the reservation must be uploaded in the form mentioned above and must match the name of the person who made the reservation and must be presented to the host via the form mentioned above.

• There are NO GATHERINGS allowed on the property.

• The definition of "GATHERINGS" is as follows: No person past the guest count in the reservation may stay on property (inside or outside) for more than 10 minutes. (For example if the reservation on Airbnb is 2, no more than 2 people can be on property at any time).

• Friendly, house trained, dogs (max of 2) are allowed with a $20 per dog per night fee.

• Guest is responsible for picking up dog poop outside (whether on property or not), and any messes made by dogs.

• There is a camera on the front porch that is monitored and stores recordings. There are no cameras inside the house.

• There is absolutely NO SMOKING OR VAPING allowed on the property (inside or outside on the porch) If the cleaners smell cigarette/weed smell or there is evidence of smoking, a $250 fine will incur

• Check-in is at 4pm and check-out is at 11am. A $50/hour fee will be assessed for early check-in/check-out when not approved in advance (this includes asking the cleaners to enter if they are still cleaning if you happen to arrive early)

• All outdoor activity must end at 10pm and out of respect for the neighbors, quiet hours inside are 10pm to 8am so please keep all noise to a minimum during those hours.

• There is NO PARKING on the premises but there is plenty of free street parking. Note that although it looks like it, the driveway IS NOT PART OF THE PROPERTY (it does not belong to us and the neighbor is NOT nice about it and has been known to have vehicles towed before)

• Only toilet paper is to be flushed down the toilet. No wipes, paper towels, tampons, etc. If a plumber has to be called and they find anything that shouldn't be flushed as the cause of a clog, the guest will be responsible for paying the bill to fix it.

• It's the guest responsibility to log-out of their streaming accounts on the TV (the cleaners will not do it). The TV does not have cable/antenna... only streaming services like netflix, hulu, etc.

• lights should be turned off when leaving rooms/the house to save energy

• A/C must be turned off when the windows are open.

• Guests need to communicate with the host right away if there are any concerns/needs during their stay so we can intervene immediately if needed.

• It is the booking guest’s responsibility to share these rules with their group and it is ultimately their responsibility to make sure they are followed.

OTHER INFO/DISCLOSURES:

• The Hive is 1/2 of a duplex (the other side is called "HONEYSUCKLE HOUSE" and please message if you would like to book both together)

• There are extra trash bags available under the kitchen sink and trash cans are located in the back by the alley

• The backyard is accessible but it is not a space we recommend utilizing. It is just dirt and weeds at this point until sod and a deck is installed. The stairs are also very steep so if you decide to go back there, please watch your step.

• The host is not responsible for situations out of their control such as internet or power going out and it will not result in a refund given for such uncontrollable events.

• Traveling incurs a natural risk no matter what. If your travel plans require a cancellation due to sickness (COVID, etc) or weather delay (cancelled flights, etc), a refund cannot be given so we highly suggest you book CFAR (Cancel For Any Reason) insurance.

YOUR HOST:
Read about me! I run several airbnbs in both Birmingham, Denver, & Indianapolis and have 20+ years of luxury hospitality experience. My goal is to create the absolute best experiences for our guests!

Interaction with Guests:
I live out of state but am always just a message away! Unless it's in the middle of the night, you'll usually get a quick reply. I'm happy to recommend restaurants, etc. I know Birmingham well! I have a great support team on the ground to help with anything.

Family getaway
This was the perfect place to stay and enjoy down time with the family. The goody bag was so thoughtful, the board with suggestions of places to visit and eat was perfect. The beds were comfortable. All in all our time off was wonderful.

Great house for our purpose
We needed a place close to St Vincent's Hospital and this was in very close proximity. It accommodated us well for the timeframe we stayed there. We could walk to a restaurant/bar down the street and were close to shopping and grocery stores as well.

Nice Spot
We always stay in short term rentals when we are out of town, because we own them ourselves. It is always nice to see the little touches that people include in their rentals which gives us ideas for ours.

Comfortable and Cozy
The house was just as listed. It was beautiful and quiet. It was close to UAB, the reason for our visit, and there were some very wonderful restaurants within 10 minutes of the house. I would really recommend the House of Pancakes for breakfast and Chez FonFon for any special dinner night. The gift bag was great, just what we needed when we got there. The house was spotless, the only iffy thing was the thermostat, but that was most likely that us seniors are not so tech savvy, everything else was phenomenal.

Cozy Space & Quality Care
Julie was a lovely hostess! The home was perfect for our family of four. The decorations were tasteful and inviting. The mattresses were the most comfortable we’ve ever experienced while away from home! The property is in an awesome location! We reached out to Julie upon our departure because we had left some personal belongings in the home and she so graciously offered to ship them to us. We hit up several delicious food spots during our stay, and our most favorite little Birmingham gem was Ricarda’s Filipino food truck parked at Valley Foods in Leeds. It was a sweet drive away down those beautiful winding roads of Birmingham. Check it out when you are visiting! Thanks for the hospitality and care, Julie! We will be back!

So much better and more comfotable than a hotel.
Great location! Within walking distance to 2 Birmingham icons...the Garage and the Nick. The Garage is a unique bar/grill with great sandwiches and phenominal soup. The Nick, just look up the history. Great live music from up and coming bands. The accomadations were awesome. The decor of the house is welcoming and comfortable. Julie and Alex thought of everything to make a trip to the Magic City truly magical. From the recommendation boards to the luxureous bedding,, our 5 day stay felt like a new home. Beautiful duplex with a massive amount of space. The home truly felt like one and was in the middle of everything in Bham. We visited the the Farmers Market, Pepper Place Market, went to a festival in Helena, visited the Art Museum, and saw concerts at 3 different venues in less than a week. So much to do. From previous visits, don't miss the Civil Rights Museum, Rickwood Field or the AL Sports HOF. The Hive is by them all. The hosts welcome hurricane evacuees as well (our neighbors next door were evacuees from Bradenton) and offer an affordable place to stay with the accomodations of home. Five star reccomendation. The Hive has become our top choice when visiting Birmingham.

Very pleasant stay
We had a very pleasant stay at 'The Hive'. The property was clean and comfortable and as advertised had a well furnished kitchen which allowed me to cook meals. It's a convenient location. We had sandwiches from 'the Garage' down the street one day and they were delicious. I will definitely be looking to re-stay for any future visits to Birmingham.

The four "C's". Cute, clean, comfortable and close to UAB.
Came to Birmingham for UAB graduation. Very close to the university. The duplex was very roomy, clean, comfortable and accommodating for the three of us and our 2 dogs. They even had a dog bed and bowls for our dogs but we had brought our own. Very cute place. Everything you needed was available. We loved the big front porch and did a lot of porch sitting when we were there. I recommend The Garage for their sandwiches. The sandwich we had was awesome and it's only 2 doors down from house. The host was good at communicating. The only complaint is that I couldn't find checking out procedure when we were trying to check out. I saw something about where the trashcans were and pretty much knew to take out the trash and I cut the A/C off because I thought that was a good idea. Plus some other chores that usually you do when checking out of house. The rules could have been right under my nose. Now that I think about it, I didn't look on the bulletin board. I was trying to find it in the email I got.
