Summary:
This beautiful, double-fronted Georgian house is tucked away on a peaceful no-through street in the old quarter of Bideford. Recently renovated, the house still retains many original features from sash windows to cast iron fireplaces. The windows benefit from having an additional glaze, offering extra protection against any outside noise and draft. The cottage comfortably sleeps 6 guests with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a separate WC. You will also find a well-equipped kitchen. Dogs welcome!
The Space:
Inside, the house has been finished to a high standard and there are stylish touches throughout. Wooden panelling lines the walls of the entrance hall, whilst parquet floor leads into the dining room. In here, you will find a beautiful dining bench that has been covered in luxurious rugs as well as tasteful dining ware, draping linen curtains and elegant artwork. The spacious living room is a real delight, boasting exposed scandi style floor boards, a tranquil blue green coastal inspired colour-way and a working cast iron fireplace. The large, sumptuous sofa and additional armchair are great for a cosy film night with the 4K smart TV or to gather around for wine beside the fire. Next door, the light and bright kitchen has everything you need to cook up hearty meals. High-quality appliances such as a range cooker, Nespresso coffee machine and Montpellier dishwasher makes it a kitchen you wish you could take home! There is also a utility room at the property, with both a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Upstairs, the house sleeps six guests across three bedrooms. The master features a king-size cast iron bed with luxurious Egyptian cotton linen and black out blinds, so you're guaranteed some great nights sleep! Thoughtful touches such as wooden bedside lamps, vintage bedside cabinets and coastal inspired artwork give the room a homely feel, and you can unpack your clothes into the pretty chest of drawers to really settle in. Next door there is a further double bedroom as well as a twin bedroom with unique antique beds, both of which also have black out blinds. The shared family bathroom has been maintained to a high standard and features a shower and bath unit, plus there is an additional WC downstairs.
Out back, the garden is a glorious spot to while away sunny days - enjoy long lunches around the dining table or cook up feasts using the large gas BBQ. There is also a dedicated surfboard rack with complementary foam boards. This one of a kind period home is the perfect spot for relaxing breaks by the Devonshire coast, just a 10 minute drive from the beach.
Well behaved dogs are welcome with a fee of £20/dog (max 2). It is on the condition they are not allowed on the soft furnishings or in the bedrooms.

The Neighborhood:
Bideford is a pretty town on the North Devon coast with a fascinating history. There are a number of great places to stop and take in the river views, plus there are great pubs, cafes, and fish & chip shops that line The Quay. There is a beautifully landscaped town park at its centre, Victoria Park, which is home to a fabulous outdoor playing area for young children that includes a paddle pool (summer only). A number of high street and independent shops can be found on three main town streets: High Street, Mill Street and Grenville Street. The Burton Gallery has a growing national reputation as a place to see beautiful art and photography. The house is in walking distance to many of the town's best eateries. For good dining, we would recommend The Italian Kitchen, Number Eight, The Mariners or Mill Street Brasserie.
The town straddles both banks of the River Torridge, linked by the old bridge, a sight to behold in itself. On the East-the-Water side, on the far bank, you can pick up the Tarka Trail which is a popular walking and cycling route snaking for nearly 100 miles around the North Devon region. Bideford is 2 miles upstream from the Atlantic coast at Westward Ho!, while Appledore and Instow is another lovely spot for those in search of sunny pints and fine food.
Westward Ho! is one of the best in North Devon, running parallel to a large nature reserve and golf course. It's a brilliant place to enjoy water sports such as surfing, swimming, paddle boarding and kite surfing - there are also places to hire kit. If you love wild beaches, the coastline heading westwards to Hartland has some great lesser known beaches like Abbotsham Cliffs, Brownsham Beach and Hartland Quay – these are more for walkers than bathers however. For more sandy beaches head 15 miles around Bideford Bay to Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe - these are some of the UK's best beaches especially for surfing and all in easy reach from the property.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Devon, a vehicle is recommended for getting the most out of your time here. There are both paid car parks as well as free on-street parking available nearby. Whilst you can stop right outside the house to load/unload, guests should be aware that there are a few sets of moderate stairs in between parking spaces and the house.
That said, Bideford has some great public transport links to Ilfracombe and Barnstaple and you can catch a bus close to the house. From Barnstaple, a direct train will take you to Exeter St Davids where there are regular trains to London Paddington, Bristol and Cornwall.
Other Things to Note:
You can easily load and unload luggage straight to front door however due to the fact we are on a pedestrian only street, there isn’t any on-street parking with the house. The nearest Long Stay car park is just 6 mins walk away and you can buy a weeks stay there for £22. There are also some short stay parking bays along the river close to the house.
