"Beautiful Ryokan with very friendly and helpful service. We had a room with both tatami and western beds (raised off the ground) which worked very well for the elders in our group that weren't used to sleeping on the ground. No shower/bath in the room as the expectation is to use the public baths (or private family baths which are first come first serve basis). "What a relaxing stay! If you have a big tattoo that can’t be covered up, you cannot use the guest onsen. You can reserve a private onsen instead — request it when you check in. The yukata were comfortable and you can select the appropriate size for you. They also had face wash and face lotion in the room which was a nice surprise. The traditional breakfast and dinner were great: healthy and delicious. I wish we had stayed longer! "

"I liked that the location is away from the busy are, yet close enough. Good English support. We went up the hill and explored, which I would recomment if you want to get away from the crowd. Just a few good quality shops and art galleries, and restaurants up the hill."

"A wonderful experience to stay in this boutique ryokan. Imaishi San helped us on checking in, and introduced the all facilities. He also served us the Yufu Kabosu drink during the night cafe hours. The breakfast was really delicious and delightful."

"The two of us stayed at ryokan Reimei at the end of March and we booked the reimei room with an open bath. We had the best experience ever. We could go in for a dip whenever we felt like it. The shower is on the outside with the open bath and the coldness of the weather wasn’t a problem for us since the water of the shower was quite warm and you jump into the onsen right after… (I see lots of comments complaining about that). Dinner/breakfast service time and shuttle bus leaving time was chosen...

"Stay away from this hotel: no person in the front desk; the heat was not working (-2 Celsius); no one answered the phone for customer service … worst nightmare for my stay in a foreign country that only a few persons speak English. I will try to dispute the charges for my stay. I was disappointed that Expedia didn’t step in to help!! Very frustrating and un-professional "

"Skip the buffet if you’re looking for a continental breakfast option. At ¥3300, it was pricey for a coffee and a few slices of thick cut bacon. Like most of Japan, tourism is not really geared towards westerners- which is fine, just do your research ahead of time and find one of the many off-site options in the area. "

"We stayed in the Sakura room, it was absolutely amazing! We arrived before check in and the staff kindly took our bags and held them for a few hours while we explored the surrounding area (it is right next to the hells of Beppu). The room was very clean and spacious with a private indoor and outdoor onsen as well as a beautiful garden with its own cherry blossom tree. The hotel provides you with everything you need for a relaxing onsen experience! Would definitely stay here again. "

"We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights while exploring Beppu and the surrounding areas. The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The staff spoke excellent English which made check in and asking for help easy. The hotel is located right by the train station and there is ample car parking if you are renting a car. We had a very comfortable stay and would stay again. "
