Summary:
Located above the area’s hottest new restaurant, this newly renovated 1BR/1BA urban loft features classic finishes - exposed brick, high ceilings, maple floors, and quartz countertops. Cozy, comfortable quarters directly above the Houndstooth restaurant provide a fantastic opportunity to get a “taste” of the Benton Harbor Arts District. Muffled sounds of music and activity from the restaurant below are often present in the loft during evening hours. Some guests may find this objectionable.
The Space:
The bright loft overlooks City Center Park and is a perfect location to explore this renaissance neighborhood as well as popular destinations throughout Southwest Michigan. The Golf Club at Harbor Shores is right around the corner; Lake Michigan is just a mile away.
The 600 sf loft features an open kitchen/living room, breakfast nook, bathroom, and bedroom, as well as a shared laundry room. Loft finishes include exposed brick & ducts, hardwood floors, high ceilings, custom tile shower, and stainless Whirlpool appliances. Fully furnished with extras. Newly renovated in 2019.
The Neighborhood:
The Arts District is a walkable renaissance neighborhood - a bit edgy with rough edges... perhaps mysterious... we’re home to the Mason Jar Cafe, Houndstooth Restaurant, Verde Juice Box, The Livery Brewpub, Forte Coffee Shop, Ghostlight Theater, as well as several studios and galleries. The District is a work in progress, developing slowly over the past decade. First-time visitors may find the area on the quiet side, but the future of the neighborhood is exciting and continues to attract creative pioneers and investors who add to the historic urban vibe.
We’re just one mile from Whirlpool Corporation’s Riverview Campus and right around the corner from Harbor Shores Golf Resort. The sandy beaches of Jean Klock Park along Lake Michigan are a 5-minute drive. It is worth noting that this beach has not been affected by the severe cyclical erosion experienced in other lakeshore towns - the beach is beautiful! St. Joseph is just over the bridge and offers additional shopping and dining destinations.
Getting Around:
The Arts District neighborhood is roughly 5 square blocks - its easy to explore on foot. St. Joseph, Lake Michigan and other local sites can be reached in 5-10 minutes by car.
Other Things to Note:
Please respect out quiet hours from 10pm to 7am.
The loft is one of four apartments located directly above The Houndstooth, a ‘New American’ bistro that opened in September 2019 to rave reviews. Founded by executive chefs James and Cheyenne Galbraith, the Houndstooth brings farm-fresh, artisan dining to your getaway experience. Shared plates, full entrees, fine wine, and craft cocktails are also available for take-out Tues-Sat. A romantic patio added in 2020 allows for “alfresco” dining during the warmer months - reservations are strongly recommended!
Interaction with Guests:
I am available by phone at any time. My home is a 10 minute drive away.
