The place is as advertised and the owner gives a lot of helpfull additional information.
We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely come back if we have the chance 😄
We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica. The accommodations were very comfortable and showed the beauty of the location. The property owner communicated very well. Overall an amazing vacation.
Modern and sleek. Everything you need for your stay but not a bunch of stuff you don’t need. I found myself constantly staring towards the ocean in this indoor/outdoor living delight. Owner and caretaker very responsive and great to deal with. An all around pleasant stay
After spending a week in the overly touristy area around Tamarindo, we were overjoyed with the 5 nights we spent at Charlie's home. It was the perfect spot for just chilling out in the pool or taking a 15 minute stroll down to the beach. We were there in the busy time of the year in January but we felt like we had the beach to ourselves. To the South, the beach is quite rocky but accessible at low tide and to the North is a long sandy beach that requires a short wade through an estuary to access.
We even walked into the village of San Francisco de Coyote which took about an hour. There we had a choice of several restaurants that were all good. A bit further North are some more choices and we treated ourselves to some fine dining at San Miguel's about 20-30 minutes away.
We ventured south to Santa Teresa for a day and that involved seveal creek crossings so make sure you're vehicle is up to the task.
The views from the house are amazing both at sunset and from the bedroom in the morning. If you're in to photography you'll spend lots of time taking photos of the sunsets, stars, howler monkey's, coati's, birds, butterflies and some intersting insects. The house is an amazing bit of architecture and very well thought out to take advantage of the location and the enviroment. I'd defintiely recommend it to anyone.
I did very little research when I booked the location of my stay in Costa Rica. As soon as I saw this property I knew I was going to stay here. Everything absolutely met or exceeded any expectation I had.
Location- I wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing and in late October this is exactly what I got. The home is on a quiet hill and you can hear the ocean and see the waves from the bedroom. I saw very few tourists, or people for that matter, and I never felt crowded for even one second.
The House- If a minimalist feel with open air and incredible view near the beach is what you’re looking for, look no further. Everything worked perfect, everything had a purpose and almost every single glass pane slides away to reveal nothing but fresh open air. At night the mini split A/C and fans were plenty to keep me cool and comfortable.
The Host- Charlie was more than accommodating and gave an extensive list of activities and local restaurants. Minor met me exactly on time to take me up to the property and was extremely helpful throughout. At one point my gate opener stopped working and they were their within 10 minutes with a replacement.
Overall, this is a solo traveler or couples dream. I will absolutely be staying here in the future!
My wife and I loved our stay and would definitely go back. From watching hummingbirds and listening to howler monkeys in the trees, trios to the beach nearby, to dining in the little town, it will hold a special place in our trip memories. We saw one of the howler monkeys walking up the driveway, as well as several Coatis around the house. The area is also very dark at night and well suited to Astrophotography if the weather is right.
We recommend visiting El Barco for the seared tuna, the Patacones, and the view! Carsten and Nadia were so friendly and we felt like family after our two visits. We also loved Cafe Sante for breakfast.
Charlie and Minor went above and beyond to resolve some issues that occurred during our visit, which were out of their control. Both were very responsive and a pleasure to work with.
My one recommendation would be to plan to arrive well before sunset as the area is remote and the roads getting to the house are far easier in daylight. 4x4 is suggested for a few shallow creek crossings getting to the coast. We also saw horses, cows, iguanas, Coatis and more on the gravel roads nearby. You will enjoy the remoteness of the location far more than the touristy feel of other places we visited during our trip, and the experience was amazing.
We frequent CR often but this was our first time in Coyote. We loved the area so much we’re building in the area next year.
This house is small but perfect for two. The bed is comfortable and the pool is perfect for relaxing and cooling off and watching the stars and moon.
The best place to enjoy a private sunset is Caletas beach which is left out of the driveway. “Alouetta” is a must for smoothies and a healthy breakfast. The host, Mischa, is very helpful and knowledgeable to the area. I recommend seeing Marilyn (French Chef), do the tasting menu. She’s the best and undercharges so tip well.
El Barco is a greet beach restaurant owned by a German couple and they prepare great local food.
San Miguel is an upscale restaurant you can’t miss. Rancho Lima Clara is great for breakfast or lunch. Hector at Restaurant Rios speaks good English and is very helpful as well. They have great pizza.
I recommend taking your own fold out chairs or buying some for the beach as there aren’t really adequate ones around for heading out for a beach day.
Make sure you shop prior to getting to the house or you’ll be circling back. There is no microwave but the stove and appliances are just Fine.
Make sure you lock up if you leave for the day or the critters will reclaim some of the local fruits you may have purchased.
Enjoy, we did.
If you like privacy, extraordinary vistas, a super comfortable bed, modern unfussy architecture, and a responsive host, this is the place for you.
Playa Coyote which is a very short drive is an unspoiled beach with a lovely outdoor beach restaurant where you can get a freshly caught grilled fish for lunch. Weekends see many local families and campers visiting. The beach is mostly unpopulated during the week.
San Miguel which is about a 25 minute drive has one extraordinary restaurant and a few very respectable ones.
This is not a high tourist area. Most of the roads are unpaved or semi paved. You will need an all wheel drive vehicle.
Charlie's place is what I consider an outdoor house. First thing in the morning we raised the shades and slid the glass walls back for full exposure to the ocean breezes. In the afternoons, we reversed the process and turned the AC on. The patio that connects the two rooms is generally comfortable even when the temperatures hit the 90's. And then, you can always cool off in the pool. In short, I love this place and would give it more than 5 stars, if I could. I do hope to get back next year. Thank you Charlie for creating a little bit of paradise.
My wife and I spent 10 days at this property (we called it “Casa Charlie”). Our host (Charlie) was very helpful and very responsive to my questions and requests. Likewise, the property manager was very helpful
The property was perfect for us - two people. The view is wonderful, day and night. The house has a very comfortable bedroom, with an en suite bathroom and toilet. It also has a nicely appointed sitting room and kitchen. It between, there is an open sitting area with an infinity pool and adjacent laundry room.
We enjoyed a lot of classical music (a perfect setting for listening), time at the beach (our favorite was playa d’or), dining our and cooking, and I was able to take conference calls/work a few hours each day (the WiFi was good and reliable). We dined at Restaurant San Miguel twice (excellent) and twice at El Barco (surprisingly good food for a restaurant at the beach). We also had great coffees, deserts, and conversations at Cafe Sante on several occasions.
We were glad we rented a four wheel drive. We also got a GPS but found it was useless. i
It’s a bit challenging to find the way to San Francisco de Coyote once you leave the main roads but the compensating plus is that the area is not yet too developed or overcrowded.
Overall, this a five star property and location. We had a wonderful time and would love to return. Many thanks to our host, property manager, and all the lovely friends we made during our stay in the area.
We had a great time at this place. Communication with the owner was great right from the start and he sent a lot of infos what we could do in the area. And check-in with Minor, who took us to the place, was easy and quick.
The house is in a remote area, we had a 4x4 and I would recommend it as the drive up to the house is quite steep.
The remoteness of the area was actually what sold the place to us. You are basically of the grid but with all the amenities. The house has floor to ceiling windows which can all be opened. The pool is really nice and clean and a good size too. The kitchen has everything you need. And the patio is just fabulous. We sat there in the evenings just looking over the ocean and enjoying the breeze and the sounds of nature - and the total quietness, hardly any cars go by. Suddenly you realize how much we are constantly surrounded by noise.
Please be aware: due to the windows in the house there are some areas where insects can come in. We never had an issue with mosquitoes in the bedroom but you do have some bugs here and there. Also, storage can get a bit limited if you have a lot of stuff like us.
The little supermarket close by is well stocked, some items can be a bit pricey.
The local beach is just down the road. We were a bit shocked as there was quite a lot of trash on the beach and we spent one morning just picking up plastic bottles, straws, bags and all sort of other trash. So if you go there, take a big bag along and help to keep Costa Rica beautiful! A short car drive away is a nice beach where turtles come and a small area is closed off for them. There is also a nice restaurant, El Barco, we had the most amazing Guacamole there, the owners are a very friendly couple from Germany.
We would book this place again.
Prefect escape - it really is all about the views!
Charlie's property is beautifully located with the most amazing views of Coyote beach and the pacific coast of the Nicoya peninsula. The house was thoughtfully designed for indoor / outdoor living, with glass windows that completely retract to allow for fresh ocean breezes to flow through, and there is also optional A/C in the bedroom. We could even hear the waves crashing on the shores at night.
The pool is beautiful, although a bit chilly since it doesn't receive direct sunlight until later in the day - but very refreshing on a hot day. The kitchen has all the basics to cook a meal at home if needed.
The location is perfect as long as you have a car (which you need anyways for the Coyote area since it's rather spread out) - a 4x4 is preferred for the bumpy roads and steep driveway. In just a few minutes in car (or 10-15 minute walk), you can arrive to Punto Coyote beach, where you will also find the beachfront restaurant, Tanga.
There are also good classic Costa Rican restaurants in the nearby town of San Francisco de Coyote (8 min drive) - Soda Familiar, Restaurante Loma Clara, Cafe Santé to name a few. And we highly recommend eating at El Barco beachfront restaurant in Costa de Oro, which is about 20 minutes away.
I would happily stay again and recommend Charlie's house to anyone who's looking for a romantic escape or a home base to explore the area.
Both the host and on-site agent were very helpful. The house is even more incredible in person with the infinity pool built into the patio. The master has a king size bed and on-suite bath. The kitchen/living area is semi-open, and includes a futon. This area is more remote and peaceful. It’s a 10 minute walk to the beach.
The house was exceptionally clean and is absolutely gorgeous. If you are searching for some tranquility in the middle of nature this is the perfect place. You have stunning views from basically every corner of the house and you can watch butterflies and monkeys while bathing in the pool. The pictures don't actually do it justice. We loved our time there and communication with the host was super easy. Thank you for a wonderful time.
