The public areas were pretty good. My room, 322, was awful: Dirty, damp, leaky plumbing, run down, noisy.

Disliked: Room comfort
The location - in a hutong, and near to a metro station - was good for us. The courtyard, which we ate breakfast in , was its best aspect. The room itself was a bit small, and bathroom and furniture tired. Insufficient lighting.

Great value for money
Traditional Chinese accommodation in a hutong but in close proximity of a subway station. Great service from the reception staff - the ladies readily helped with directions and transport suggestions and even went out of their way to confirm a tour I had booked elsewhere. The only downside is that this hotel, being in a hutong, can be hard to locate for some taxi drivers.

Well connected
Very atmospheric and staff had good English and were helpful. Courtyard view was overlooking a roof but not really a problem. Wifi was very slow and no wired connection despite claiming one on hotels.com. Local area had great restaurants and well connected. Walking distance from forbidden city.

Very beautiful hotel with traditional chinese settings, close to main attractions and metro station. Minutes of walk from Shopping street Nankulaoshiang. Breakfast is great and staffs are very helpful

The best hutong hotel I've stayed in
Hutong means old China, and generally it implies that you're going to have to put up with substandard conditions. Of the four hutong hotels I've stayed in during my time in China, this is the best, by far. The compromises between comfort, on the one hand, and traditional Chinese experience, on the other hand, were minimal. If what you want is an old-Beijing experience, this can't be beaten!

Great comfortable stay
Nice staff that booked us on a Great Wall tour. Our room was small but very cosy. Bathroom modern. Clean and 2 heaters as it was freezing outside. 2 min walk from Metro station and a main tourist/shopping street. Quiet location opposite a police station. Great stay and great staff.

Great small hotel in "hutong", close to everything
Small hotel, easy access to Forbidden City, Tiannamin Square. Walk to sights like Bell Tower, Lama Temple. Good price. Rooms basic but clean, well kept. Front desk staff spoke decent English. Neighborhood filled with little shops, funky restaurants and coffee shops with free wifi. Easy access to subway.

Great hotel in a very convenient location
This hotel was in a great location, getting to Tiananmen square, Baihai park and other places was really easy. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. It is also in the middle of a famous hutong district and walking distance from houhai. As budget accommodation, this hotel was great.

Experience hutong life
Stay here to experience life in a (modernised) 四合院儿 (traditional courtyard houses) in the hutongs. This is very comfortable, and all rooms have en suite (that is distinctly NOT traditional). The rooms are not as large as a western-style hotel, with very little room to store clothes. But the traditional furniture is beautiful, and the old courtyards are wonderful. The staff are all wonderful.

Excellent Hotel off the Beatern Track
This is a wonderful hotel. It has real character and is located off the beaten track of other tourists. The neighborhood was really interesting to explore and the Nanluogu Xiang shopping area is nearby with lots of interesting little shops. The location was perfect. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They gave me a fruit plate upon arrival. The courtyard in the center of the hotel is really pleasant and atmospheric.

Typical Chinese hotel in the Hutongs
Nice typical Chinese hotel deep in the Hutongs. Don't be afraid of surroundings, experience Beijing as a local. Next to main touristic Hutong, and close to touristic restaurant zone.

Very nice people. They give your help, when you need. Nice to sit outside to eat your dinner except bugs bothering. Room facilities is old, but can acceptable. Nice location can walk to subway, and some spots. Breakfast is expensive. Nice place to stay.

Charming but will avoid in the winter!
Stayed 2 nights, charmed by the history and review, but no joke that plumbing is bit ancient, no hot water for shower and floor is flooded after a shower as water flows from shower area to the handbasin area. Firm beds, very clean linen, a bit of a shabby but proud ambience. didn't bother with the hotel breakfast, better fare after you turn left and walk for 10 minutes. great location for the pedestrian area, with MTR station about 20 minute walk (note China MTRs have loads of stairs up and down), bad location for taxis.

Great location for a great price
Very nice hotel in a great, central location. Would recommend, especially for the price I paid. They could improve the cleanliness and the comfort.

Pretty good.
I have studied the Google Map to find this hotel. It is close to subway station and famus Nan Luo Gu Xiang. This lane is always crowed, shoulder to shoulder. All shops are famus Beijing snacks. People is eating crazing like pig, more than a pig. Their mouths keep biting, chewing snacks. Ma Ma Mia!

good location
Very traditional hotel, we had a room with a door to the courtyard which made it really nice to sit outside and enjoy a beverage/read. Hotel was very close to the Nanlouguxian line 6 train station (take East exit)which is very convenient and takes you to just about any sites/markets. We were able to walk to the Drum/Bell Towers and the Lama Temple. Receptionist spoke English and helped us book train tickets to Pingyao. We did not try the breakfast since it wasn't included with our room but I think they offered it for 60 Yuan which I thought was a little too much since you can get cheaper outside the hotel. The room was a little old but we had a lot of space to move around and they will clean your room everyday if you choose and stock it with tea/coffee/water bottles. There is a nice alley close to hotel and right by the subway station with a lot of restaurants and shopping, convenient stores nearby. We took the fast speed train from the Beijing West Terminal train station to Pingyao, on our return trip to Beijing we discovered an Airport Express Shuttle bus which was very convenient for only 26 Yuan that makes a stop at every terminal. We would stay here again, it was a very good value

Tranquil, Convenient, Historic, and Great Value
The Lu Song Yuan is a very reasonably priced hotel in the alleyways of old central Beijing. It very good value for money; tranquil; and very close to public transport. The rooms do not have mini-safes or fridges (nor would you expect that for the price), but they are clean, have free and effective wi-fi, air con and heating, and include tea and coffee-making equipment, a TV, etc. The breakfast buffet includes both Chinese and Western food. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the hubbub of Nanluoguxiang tourist shops and cafes, but very tranquil, and organized around courtyards that are a pleasure to sit in during the summer. The subway from the Nanluoguxiang station will get you around the city efficiently. You can walk to the historic lakes in 15 minutes. The staff are very helpful. I wouldn't use this as a business base normally, but it would be an ideal tourist hotel for someone seeking a historic and reasonably priced option. Don't expect 4-star luxury, but do expect excellent value and local authenticity
