"Awe is something not easy to define but involves feeling amazed, and often, feeling small against the full scale of the universe" ABC 'The Awe Hunters'.
Built in 2023 The Otway Nuttery is perched high in the Otways Hinterland in the historic Beech Forest township. A stunning 3-4 bedroom, two living room home offers all the comforts and conveniences of a new home along with all the unique magic and majesty of the Otways.
The space
Sun drenched, private and secluded, with oak floors and double glazing throughout, our lovely new home has wonderful views through picture windows and glass doors over the distant Aire Valley. It offers open plan living with a separate TV room, either 3 or 4 (opt) bright bedrooms equipped with electric blankets, ceiling fans and heaters, a heated bathroom with free-standing bath overlooking the valley, a separate shower, a powder room, and separate toilet.
The three bedrooms, bathroom, separate toilet and powder room which are included in the standard rate, sleeps 8, but is as comfortable, cosy and intimate for just two.
An optional additional 4th king-size bedroom and en suite, with stunning views, is available for those seeking more space and who wish to stay longer than three days. Please contact the host if you would like this option.
Two of the standard-rate bedrooms each have queen beds, while the third small bedroom sleeps 4 with a triple bunk bed (double with a single above) and a separate single bed.
The modern and stylish open-plan kitchen is well equipped to cook for your family and friends with an induction cook top, fan forced oven, large island bench, caesarstone bench tops, dishwasher, Espresso pod machine and plenty of cooking equipment. A range of teas, coffee & condiments is provided.
The wide, undercover verandah on two sides of the house has ample north sun all year round and is the perfect spot for a morning coffee or afternoon cocktail. There is also a small Webber BBQ under cover outside the kitchen door.
A 9 kw reverse-cyle air conditioner in the open plan living area is complemented by a large wood fired heater, which also features an oven and two hotplates, which ensures year-round warmth and comfort to the whole house. The bathrooms also feature IXL heaters and a fan heater and all bedrooms are equipped with fans, electric blankets, block out blinds and free-standing heaters.
Although private and secluded, the house is only a 5 minute walk to the quaint Art Reach Cafe with coffee, soup, sandwiches and cakes. A 15 minute drive will take you to the truly excellent Perch restaurant & Bar at Lavers Hill and Yatzies general store, or to the small town of Gellibrand with a general store/post office/Cafe, and a pub with fab meals and weekend live music.
Immerse yourself in the spectacular rainforest walks, many waterfalls, awe-inspiring Redwood Forest, spectacular Otway Fly Treetop Adventures, and the famous Beech Forest rail trail with guided E-bike hire from Beech Forest; while the wineries and breweries of nearby Forest, Lake Elizabeth, and Otway distillery, BYO berry picking, the pristine beaches, coastal walks and many restaurants of Apollo Bay and Lorne, are a scenic 30-50 minute drive away. The famous Brae restaurant in Birregurra is also a 50 minute drive away. We also have our very own glowworms a 15 min walk from the house.
Peaceful and serene, the house has all the stylish modern comforts and amenities for a relaxing stay, whether with family and friends, or to curl up in front of the picture window with the sun streaming in, the fire going, and a good book
The house is connected to rain water only, and a Brita filtered water jar is supplied. Please bring bottled water if needed.
Colac is the largest nearby town and is 40 mins away with all amenities, four supermarkets and a local hospital. Guests are advised to pick up groceries on the way as there are no shops in Beech Forest.
Guest access
The property is entirely yours to enjoy. There is ample parking on the property via the long circular driveway with 5 steps easy access to the front door.

Other things to note
Caution:- There is a small spring-fed dam 50m from the house which is fenced, but small children will still need to be supervised;
The Little Aire Creek runs through the bottom of the property 400 metres from the house which is only suitable for adults to explore.
There is an outdoor setting and fire-pit, but please check the Victorian fire warnings and do not light the fire-pit on windy days or days of Total Fire Ban.
