We certainly enjoyed our stay, the location was lovely...however, there were issues too significant not to mention. First, arrival and check-in: we were told that keys would be left in the door to our cottage, they were not. Finding our VRBO host took two separate visits to her adjacent home, ringing the doorbell and knocking on doors and windows. Second: the apartment was clean, although pots and pans were left on the counter and the freezer was so full of frozen items it was difficult to open. Our host claimed some of the items were hers, and most had been left by the previous renters (shouldn't this have been taken cleaned out before our arrival?). Third: Amenities promised or implied on her VRBO webpage didn't exist, or according to the host were no longer available: swimming pool, hot tub/spa, access to boating dock (rather significant amenities!). Fourth: Privacy. The bedroom and bathroom windows had shutters that covered only the bottom half of the window. The top half had no shutter, no curtain, no shades--making it easy to see into the rooms from the outside (we had to balance pillows on top of the shutters to make our rooms more private). Fifth: TV. Of two TV monitors, only the one in the living room worked, and then only with Roku (if you had an account). Sixth: Storage clutter. While we didn't need extra storage space (except for the freezer), both closets were full of personal items being stored there by the host (lamps, lampshades, rolls of fabric, artwork, medical equipment). Beyond these, our interactions with the host were cordial and pleasant. Once we got used to the "issues" we really enjoyed our visit. The view of the river is beautiful and we made a point to enjoy meals on the back porch overlooking the water. More transparency and attention to basic details would go a long way toward justifying the rental charge.
