Casino in nearby Manistee; boat launching at Bear Lake, Onekama and Arcadia 15 minute drive from the house. Traverse City is a 60 minute drive, Sleeping Bear Dunes about a hour north.

Lovely Lake Michigan Vacation
We had a relaxing & fun experience from our stay in an in teresting Our experience in the house & the beautiful surrounding area was relaxing & fun. The house held all the provisions we could ask for, it was spacious & clean, with nice decor. Comfortable beds, easily fit the 5 of us & all the appliances & lights worked well. There was even a gift basket waiting for us in the kitchen. The short walk to the beach was quiet & scenic, then to an amazing view of the lake. We had a wonderful time.

Enjoyable stay at the Schoolhouse
We were very pleased with this house. The main (1st floor) living area is spacious - a modern kitchen with open space that leads to a large dining area. Next to it is the living room which is very large, with a sofa/TV/DVD area plus other sitting/reading areas. And a master BR w/queen. Upstairs has 2 BRs, each with two beds but not much else. The full baths on both floors are modern and a comfortable size. The house has a large yard. Houses are spaced out in the neighborhood, but neighbors are accessible (we even got to know the nearby golden retriever and his owner). The house is incredibly stocked with everything imaginable, and the items are new or in good condition. This includes dishes, pots/pans, a variety of cooking machines (breadmaker, toaster, etc.), toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, and many others), and even condiments (salad dressing, butter, many spices ...). The 3 modern higher-sitting beach chairs and small umbrella were especially useful to us - not too heavy and opened and closed easily. It should be clear to any person planning to stay here that there is no wifi, and no cell signal (we have AT&T and TMobile service). We adjusted to this and connected by driving a few minutes away (stopping our car at the point we got a signal) or just using the wifi in my sister's rental, a restaurant, etc. Although we are 3 working people, we didn't greatly miss the wifi - in fact it forced us to really disconnect, which was the plan for the week. But the lack of cell service did make communication with family members more difficult. There is a landline phone but it can only receive calls, or make 800 calls or calls to the local area code. The beach is a 10 minute walk (I was told 5 minutes, but it takes longer), straight down the street of the house. There's also a parking lot there which is always near-empty. There are a lot of stones on the beach, especially near the water, but there are also sandy parts with no stones. The water was cold and probably is too cold to swim in (except for the adventurous) for most of the year - but still, you get sunsets every night and there are miles of other beaches on Lake Michigan (like an ocean, without the salt!) nearby. While there is no local recycling pickup, you can leave recycling in the garage, and/or drop it off in a nearby city (e.g. Onekama behind the Blue Slipper Tavern). And lastly, Paul as the owner is accessible, responsive, and honest, and can provide a lot of details

Wonderful stay!
My friends and I had a wonderful stay at the schoolhouse. Location was excellent and communication with Paul was wonderful. Had some minor issues with a mouse in the house that they were working on, and a minor plumbing issue that was fixed while we were there.

Family reunion at fabulous School House
We had a wonder stay at the school house. It was close to Lake Michigan with a short walk to Old Faceful and the beach. The water was warm and the sun was out. Most days were spend at the local beach and nights at the fire pit with our family. The Evan’s have a beautiful and spacious home. Plenty of room for family dinners and it had a well stocked kitchen. We had everything that you would need for a beach vacation at the house. The Evan’s decorating and attention to detailed was spot on! Thanks for all your thoughtfulness and sharing your beautiful home!!! Hope we can come again! The Rinehart Family Aug 8-15

Adventurous visit in a charming schoolhouse
Paul was very attentive checking in with us by phone the day after we booked the property. He was also available every-time we called with questions or concerns. The location of the schoolhouse was ideal as we were centered in between so many cute towns to which we could take quick day trips. We did dune rides at Silver Lake, kayaking and rafting down the Pine River, and explored the town of Frankfort visiting its beach for a day and renting paddle boards. The highlight of each day was the beautiful Lake Michigan sunsets that were a short walk to the bottom of the hill. All in our family slept well in the beds provided and we had all the cooking utensils we needed as well as many cooking essentials such as oils, spices, and condiments. A variety of games and movies kept us entertained (late into the night thanks to Monopoly :-) when we chose to have some downtime. Thank you Evans family for sharing this little piece of heaven!

mice house
--You will rent this house if: your like to live in a house with mice where you can be infected; or trying to wash your clothes stumbling down on terribly steep stairs to flooded stinky basement. Steps upstairs and downstairs are not done by code, so do not break your legs. You will sleep in outdated hammock called master bedroom bed. The same with pull out couch. You can see mice running when you in the first floor bathroom or in the kitchen. House is filled up with old broken furniture. Owner called this "antique", and he will charge you for repairs, so forget about your security deposit. Plus the owner was very rude. Tcherniak Family

Great experience
This is a wonderful rental, with an open floor plan, lots of natural light and plenty of room for everyone. The home is in a wonderful location (just a short walk to the beach) . It is also well organized (sheets shorted by bed, etc.) and outfitted from kitchen utensils to beach chairs to towels and pillows. Paul was great to work with throughout the rental process and went the extra mile when clothes were inadvertently left behind. We hope to be back again next summer. Mary P.

Great week!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the school house. There was plenty of space for the eight of us. The kitchen was very well equipped and having a washer and dryer there was a definite plus! The yard was great for game playing in the evening. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone and hope to stay again in the future.

Great family trip
We had a wonderful week at the school house. It was close to a few different lakes that were a short drive. The walk to Lake Michigan was short and fun to watch the sunset and to swim. The schoolhouse had a lot of seating and was peacefully set back in the woods but not too far to get essentials we forgot. Loved it!

Quaint, quiet, and family friendly.
It’s such a nice house, with all the amenities you’d ever need for a family vacation. You can walk to Lake Michigan in about five minutes, and everyone in the area always waves and says hello like you’ve been there before. Everything about the house and the area is just like one of those Tim Allen commercials, pure Michigan. We will definitely be returning next summer!

Beautiful views and great hospitality
We had another amazing vacation in Pierport. Our family has been taking this trip annually and love the charm of the "Pierport Schoolhouse." This beautiful property has become a home away from home for our family of 4. The property was very clean and even had a welcome basket with s'mores "supplies" to use by the fire and local treats of wine and maple syrup. The owners go above and beyond to keep the property clean and inviting. They even called to check on us during out stay! We loved reading the guest book too! We had more then enough room and loved all of the natural light in this charming schoolhouse. We look forward to our vacation stay next year and we just left less then a week ago!!

Beautiful views and very welcoming home away from home.
From the beautiful Lake Michigan views to the small town charm we loved our stay. The home away from home was very clean and welcoming for our family of 4. With plenty of room and open floor plan our family had room to spread out in the house and outside as well. The charm of this being an old school house caught the eye of our girls and they wanted to learn more. We plan on making another trip next year and continuing to explore. So many things to do within driving distance if your family needs a break from the beach. Very affordable for the location and space!

Great Stay for My Family
This house was a comfortable home, away from home. It accommodated my family of 4, as well as nephews and spouses for an 11-day stay. With the large, bright and clean kitchen/dining room, as well as the spacious living room my party had plenty of space to share, as well as personal space. Beds were made up and all cooking amenities were available. The home was clean. Front and back porches kept the house from being tracked up. The yard is large and private. We were able to put our boat in Lake Michigan in Arcadia and on windy days in Bear Lake. Both launches were well maintained. The area is rich in activities and natural beauty. This newly remodeled school house was perfect for our families vacation.

Very clean and bright
The Schoolhouse was very clean and the living areas and kitchen very spacious with two bathrooms, one up and one down, which was very convenient. The yard was spacious and very well groomed for the kids to play. Our party consisted of 4 adults and 3 children. That seemed the right amount of people., We did not use the pullout couches in the living room but they didn't look very comfortable. It was a short drive to the beach, very convenient, as well as short drives into Bear lake or Onekema for supplies. We went to Frankfort (20 minute drive) to cute shops and paddleboarding at the beach there. Nice selection of restaurants there also. Another day we rented kayaks at Riverside Canoe rental on the Platte River. Another day we drove up the lake highway to Sleeping Bear Dunes. There's plenty of activities and attractions to see in this part of Michigan I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives.
