LAKEFRNT CABIN 2Bdrm/Deertrail2shore/Rowboat/SUP/FishingPoles/Pet/30mins2Durango

Welcome to your ideal lakeside escape at our Rustic Colorado Mountain Cabin! With premier lakefront views, this charming wooden 2-bedroom cabin, crafted in the late '40s, perfectly blends mountain-style design with modern comforts.

Step into a spacious, single-story layout that’s easy to navigate, featuring a sunny gourmet kitchen stocked with all the essentials for your culinary adventures. Enjoy meals in the cozy kitchen nook with delightful window seating, or relax in the living room adorned with high-beam ceilings.

Both bedrooms feature newer medium-firm queen mattresses and charming décor, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. The glass double doors lead you to a stunning wood deck overlooking the lake, where you can unwind at the picnic table or in patio chairs. Below the deck, another picnic table awaits for outdoor gatherings.

Our cabin accommodates 4 adults comfortably, with the option for 2 children under 12 to sleep on the pull-out couch (a $35 linen fee applies for extra guests or use of the pull-out). Stay entertained with Netflix and complimentary Wi-Fi during your stay. Please remember, no smoking is allowed indoors—there’s a designated dispenser on the deck, please shut the door so smoke does not enter the cabin, thank you!

The living room and dinning room are adjacent with high beam ceilings, wood floors and Colorado theme design. A large flat screen TV with Netfilx and Hi-speed internet. Many books on the area for your enjoyment and a beautiful space to unwind.

We’re pet-friendly! One to two dogs are welcome for a $50 fee, but please ensure they are crated if left alone in the cabin—check our pet policy for details.

Situated in a friendly neighborhood, our two independent cabins share secluded access to the shoreline. A 100-foot natural deer trail (which can be steep) leads you to your private swimming and fishing spot. Enjoy shared amenities, including a 3-person rowboat, a stand-up paddleboard (SUP), fishing poles, and a tackle box to enhance your lake experience.

Safety is paramount, so please use the outdoor gear at your own risk and ensure life jackets are worn when enjoying the lake. For fishing licenses and marina information, visit: https://vallecitolakemarina.net.

Due to the tree cover, trash trucks cannot access individual cabins, so guests are responsible for taking their trash to the dumpsters located on the main road.
To ensure you have the best experience, I will meet you upon arrival to provide information about the cabin and neighborhood.

One week before your stay, I will start communication on your upcoming trip. As your dedicated host and concierge, I am available to answer any questions or recommendations in the area so this can truly be a memorable trip.

I have a guest book in each cabin with detailed information of the cabin, area, hikes, restaurants and activities. We can also arrange to meet at the cabin so I can better understand your needs, goals, and desires, allowing me to tailor your experience to perfection!

My top priority is to provide you with a comfortable cabin, stocked with just about everything you'll need, while you explore all that Vallecito Lake and the surrounding areas have to offer.

We hope this will be your perfect mountain getaway!

Perfect for what we were looking for
The location was exactly what I was looking for. It had the feeling of seclusion, quick access to the lake, and a quiet setting. The deck was my favorite feature, very peaceful. We had everything we needed inside and out. The communication with the renter was outstanding.

A beautiful, peaceful place to stay
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. Rene was so friendly and welcoming, and truly provided everything we could possibly need. The view of Lake Vallecito from the deck of the cabin was amazing. Waking up to that view every morning was the best part of our stay. We highly recommend staying in Rene's cabin, and we plan to do so again in the future.

A great place off the beaten path
This cabin was built more than 70 years ago, but it has been well-maintained, is well-furnished and has a wonderful view of the lake. It provided a super spot for our three-day get-away. The owner met us upon our arrival, which was a nice touch. Vallecito Lake is a well-kept secret for the most part so if you are looking for a quiet Colorado location away from the usual tourist traps, we recommend the lake these accommodations.

Tranquil
We had a wonderful relaxing stay at Rene’s cabin. The view of the lake is gorgeous. I felt like I was on Golden Pond. The lake was full and beautiful but I heard it’s nice when it’s down some too since you have a beach. It’s close enough to Durango to shop or go out to dinner yet you feel like you’re in the middle of the mountains.

Fantastic getaway!
We enjoyed a fantastic long weekend at Rene's cabin. Very comfortable and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. We really appreciated the personal touches, like Rene meeting us at the house to explain details and give us some suggestions on things to do - despite a delayed arrival time. If you're like us and prefer to bring your canine friend along on trips, this is a place to consider; pet "friendly" is an understatement. We plan on visiting Vallecito again and would absolutely stay at Rene's cabin when we do!

Fantastic!
We had a lovely time staying here at the Lakefront Cabin. It was a great location for hiking as well as going to Durango and Mesa Verde. I only wished we had more time to enjoy the lake! We were just too busy. I would highly recommend staying at this property. I hope to get back sometime. Thanks Rene!

Great getaway!
This 1940's cottage is in a great location on the lake and was the perfect place for our long weekend getaway. René and Bob were wonderful hosts, making sure we had everything we needed and providing us with excellent advice about local activities, fishing spots, places to eat etc. The view from the deck is absolutely beautiful and we found ourselves out there quite a bit. We especially loved watching and listening to all of the birds while having our morning coffee. There were four of us, two couples, and we were able to negotiate the one small bathroom without any problems and we're still friends. We all agreed that we would love to come back again.

Relaxing, rustic lake cabin
We enjoyed our stay. The proximity to the lake was great and they provided a river kayak and a canoe down at the lakefront rocky beach. There were oars however only one had a pin, so we used our paddle board paddles. The cabin had a full kitchen which was nice, and cable and wifi. There were a lot of minor repairs that were needed that might take a handyman a day to fix that would have made the experience better....lighting was the big one...just replacing dead light bulbs would have helped. Overall though, good location and experience.

Location, Views and Memories
We had never been to Vallecito Lake until this trip and we fell in love. The property was a clean and cozy cabin nestled in a neighborhood of other cabins. The hike to the shore is definitely steep but didn't give us trouble. We took our young children down to the water and enjoyed the canoe. They were thrilled. We also used the kayak... We didn't get time to fish but there are great spots for it. The cabin had everything you need..the amenities were thoughtful and it was better stocked than most rentals we've stayed in. The owner lives about 15 min away and was incredibly responsive. We were blown away by the above and beyond service by René and her family. They genuinely just want their renters to make happy vacation memories. Great people with big hearts! We will return!

Very cozy, comfortable cabin
We enjoyed our stay at the Shabby Chic Cabin. The surrounding area is just beautiful and surprisingly quiet and peaceful in light of there being many cabins in a small area. It may not always be like that, but we experienced that. The drought conditions resulted in the lake being very low, so using the canoe was difficult because of the rocky shoreline. (at least for us "retired" folks) It would be lovely if more windows opened in the cabin to let in the breezes (particularly the kitchen and bath) but again not a huge deal. Rene, the owner was a delight with lots of suggestions and info to share about the area. It was wonderful to be able to bring our fur-friend as well. Overall a pleasant experience and I would suggest this place to a friend if they wanted to be away from Durango a bit and on the lake. (25 - 30 min to Durango)

Lovely vacation!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was nice and clean and had all the amenities that were promised. We brought all our own food and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The cabin and rooms were very spacious. It’s a beautiful, peaceful, very quiet setting. Although there are several neighbors quite close, we never heard anything from any of them. The view of the lake from the cabin is spectacular and we enjoyed sitting on the deck having coffee in the mornings. Everything was quite comfortable and the beds are fantastic! I only have one complaint which I already discussed with René. When the sun rises over the mountains, it comes through the east facing windows (on the lake side of the cabin) and it’s absolutely blinding. We had to prop up towels in the windows with ski poles for a few hours every morning. This could easily be fixed with a couple of pull-down shades in those windows. We’re pretty close in Albuquerque, so we will definitely consider coming back.

1st VRBO experience
The host was very friendly and informative. The cabin was cute and the beds were comfortable. However, the sofa was extremely uncomfortable, covered in dog hair and needs to be replaced. The overstuffed chair was fairly comfortable but the biggest issue I had was the cleanliness. There was dog hair everywhere. I accidently dropped something and it rolled under the sofa - oh my god - there was enough hair underneath to cover a small dog. Same under the beds and other furniture including the coffee table legs. The baseboards were filthy with dirt buildup and dog hair. I realize it is an old cabin that's been renovated but it needs a thorough cleaning. The dishes had dried food on them, the dish drainboard needs to be cleaned, the kitchen faucet needs to cleaned, etc, etc. I'm not a clean freak and I don't normally leave a bad review but if it had been cleaner I would have given it a 5-star rating.

Stunning lakefront view & super pet friendly.
We spent 4 days at Shanty Chic cabin and were very pleased. The cabin is accurately described in the posted description. It is a quaint 2 bedroom cabin with lots of character, and some have noted a little quirky in some regards - none of which IMO over ride the grandness of the experience of a true lake house/cabin stay. The grounds out back are simply magnificent. The lake is full view, the grounds lush and the patio and all of the outdoor lounge furniture made for relaxing perfect. We spent so much time outdoors and could not have been more impressed. Rene (the cabin owner) is super friendly, accommodating and attentive. It is obvious that she is passionate about what she does, and it shows. She is very genuine and we really enjoyed getting to know her. Rene had even left some fresh eggs in the refrigerator from her farm hens. One very important thing when traveling is finding a place which is Pet Friendly, yet a nice property. We found it at Shanty Chic. Some places "allow" pets but Shanty Chic and Rene, actually welcome pets. From a pet owner who prefers to travel with pet in tow, this is very much appreciated. One request to fellow pet owners - help keep these properties pet friendly and welcoming by doing our part to pick up after our pets and ensure no damage occurs. The little area/town of Vallecito Lake is quaint and quite refreshing. Some good places to eat out (but not lots of them), or grill at the cabin. The area has good hiking as well. My personal favorite was actually in this area. Overall, great experience here.
