Great home to visit Acadia National Park with your family.
We enjoyed our stay at Deer Nest! My family of 5 loved our stay while visiting Acadia. Dwayne was very responsive and a great host. The house worked great for my family and we would book here again!

Unacceptable Sleeping Situation
I will start this review with - I am normally not a complainer- but for the large amount of money we spent on this stay, we got terrible sleep for a number of reasons. First- upon entering the home, the air quality was very musty and moldy smelling. The home advertised a fold-out sofa couch for sleeping, yet we could not find any bedding available for the fold out couch. After calling the property owner, they eventually returned our call and told us the sheets for the fold out couch were in a locked closet. After putting our children to bed on the sofa couch, around midnight the mini-split AC directly above the couch started POURING (not dripping) water out, onto our children. The bed was wet, our children were up, we had to move our children and thus began the lack of sleep. We turned the AC off, and the upstairs began to be warm for sleeping. The upstairs bedroom is not really a bedroom and more of a loft, with a skylight that will wake you up with sunrise at 5am. The full moon was shining into the loft all night, the curtains were broken, and our family got horrible sleep that affected our day at Acadia the next day. Upon calling the property manager 4x the next morning, we were unable to get him on the phone until the afternoon. In an effort to make things right, we asked for a partial refund of the $1000 we spent on the first night and he argued, refused and was rude. I do not recommend this property.

Awesome cabin in woods
We enjoyed our stay so much! Comfortable home with lots of amenities. Everyone had their own space. The surroundings are beautiful, we even saw deer in the yard in the morning. Close drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Would go back and recommend to anyone!

great location, wish we stayed longer
The cabin was perfect for our family of 5, could have even had a few more with us. House was well equipped, beds were comfortable. Saw deer on our last day right in the back yard. Although there is a neighboring house, the yard feels very private and you would think you are in the middle of the woods by looking out the back windows. Wish we could have stayed more than just two days. Would stay again.

comfortable house on Mt Dessert island
We had a great, three-day stay at this cabin while visiting family on the island. Check in was easy and the hosts were easily reachable and communicative. The location is convenient. It's very quiet and feels secluded yet you can easily walk to trails along the water or drive to gas, food, stores, etc. The house is extremely comfortable and we had everything we needed in the kitchen for making all our meals including coffee supplies, salt, pepper, pots and pans. The living space is big enough for having dinner with family or playing games at night. Because it was winter, we didn't get to take advantage of the big outdoor porch or yard space which looked lovely. One note to other renters is that the stove in the living space is gas and mostly decorative, so if you want a fire, you'd have to use the outdoor fire pit (which we didn't take advantage of) Overall, a very comfortable experience.

Lovely, cozy log home in secluded, quiet natural setting near Acadia
This house is even prettier in real life than in pictures. Well-decorated and felt larger than we expected. The house has three levels: a lower level with two bedrooms and a large, full bath; a main level with family room, kitchen, dining area, full bath, screened porch and opening to a large deck; and an upper loft with master bedroom. The yard is large, with a fire pit, grill and outdoor furniture, surrounded by tall trees. Very quiet and peaceful area. A couple of caveats if you are considering renting this property: - If you can't navigate stairs, this 3-story property probably isn't for you. The stairs leading to the upper level master were slightly short and also had a turn in the landing, so that you had to go up and down with your feet somewhat angled, which left me with sore knees. The master is not walled off, but open to the main level, and does not have its own bathroom - you have to go down the stairs to the main level to use it. This bathroom, by the way, features a jetted tub, but the water when we were there was somewhat rusty (which I'm told is very common in rural Maine) so I didn't use it. - It's a relatively new rental for the current owner, so it was missing some things we tend to expect in VRBOs - basic condiments like salt and pepper, sugar for coffee, corkscrew to open wine. The host, however, is very responsive to texts and calls, so will bring items upon request. Also, when we were there, the visitors' manual wasn't yet available, so we had to figure out things on our own, such as the heating system (which appeared to be linked to the fireplace in the main level). If we'd had trouble, I'm sure the owner would have been happy to help. The property is located in the Southwest Harbor area of Deseret Island, near Acadia National Park. We previously have stayed in Bar Harbor when visiting Acadia, which has more lodging, restaurant and shopping choices. However, the weekend we were there - first weekend in October - both Acadia and Bar Harbor were packed with visitors, so we were glad to be staying in Southwest Harbor, which is also known as the "Quiet Side." We enjoyed Quiet Side hiking trails, harbor views and restaurants located within a couple miles of this VRBO. We were very pleased with this choice for our northern Maine vacation!
