Restdown - Kangaroo Valley

Restdown is a delightful 1870s settlers homestead which was originally built in the NSW Riverina from where it was carefully dismantled and reassembled using traditional methods on its present idyllic location. Built from cypress pine drop logs and recycled materials, the cottage has been lovingly restored to maintain the historic value of the building. You will not only be graced by Restdown’s historical presence and antique/country style furniture, but by its practicality and energy efficiency. Environmentally sustainable, the water supply is tapped from a natural spring and a combination of solar and hydro generated power supplies the cottage with electricity along with bottled gas.
Escape and immerse yourself in the warmth and character of this rustic cottage. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a relaxing break with friends or family, you have everything you need for a self-catering stay. With a slow combustion fireplace (a quantity of firewood is provided May to September), 2 Queen bedrooms, Queen loft bedroom, antique claw-foot bath, fully equipped kitchen, barbeque and firepit (collect wood and branches from the land); Restdown offers tranquility and total privacy.
Kangaroo Valley village is a short drive away and provides a variety of cafes, the local pub and a general store where you can stock up on essentials for your stay. Explore the national parks with bush walking, mountain bike riding, canoeing and horse riding right on your doorstep.

Great little getaway
Lovely little cottage in the middle of the bush. Had a lovely stay, fire roaring each day/night and lovely surrounding bush. Only downside is the toilet ran the whole time which was annoying especially at night, as was the expectation to take all rubbish with us (especially given the cost). But overall nice place to stay.

Absolutely idyllic
Restdown is absolutely idyllic and wants for nothing as a perfect getaway. Situated in a National Park it is in a beautiful quiet location, surrounded by wildlife. The house is a historical gem with so much character and the perfect place to truly relax & have fun whatever time of year. It is both pet & family friendly and I can't recommend it highly enough. We will definitely be back!

Gorgeous rustic cabin in amazing location
So lush and secluded, this cabin was just right for our stay with kids and friends. You feel like you're in a cabin in the woods (because you are!). We loved that it's off the grid and there were no downsides to that - stil had all the hot water and electricity we needed. We couldn't afford it for just our family of 4 but when splitting with friends it was perfect! Also the linens and beds were divine :)

While I love the peace and quiet I was disappointed to find either the owners or the new neighbors are clearing the bush at the back . Due to this we saw no wild life at all. Pity properly won’t go back

A magical place
Restdown is a magical place - secluded but still close to everything you need or may want to visit. We only spent three nights but could have stayed much longer. The property is beautifully restored with great attention to detail. We loved the fire pit and sat outside each evening watching the stars and relaxing. Our dog loved it as well. Everything is set up so you can relax with books, games and DVDs. The beds were so comfortable - we all got a good night sleep. The fourteen year old did not have wifi but spent time outside playing and reading a book! Highly recommended and we will definitely visit again.

Excellent Property!
We stayed at this property for 4 nights over Easter, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is so peaceful and beautiful, you have a great view of the valley from the verandah out the back. We loved sitting around the cosy fireplace at night, and all the beds were super comfortable and warm. The house was clean and beautiful, with rustic furniture to keep with the style of the 1800's cottage, the photo's don't do it justice! We spend time bushwalking at near-by Fitzroy Falls, playing board games and croquet at the property, and we spent a day touring the near-by wineries. One thing to consider; the driveway is very steep and unsealed, it was a little hard to get a packed sedan up! Overall we had a great experience and will definitely be back.

it had been a truly beautiful place, arranged with love in all, beautiful decoration for Christmas. Only downside was the quote we received: It was not accurate as it was quoted for 2 people not the whole family + dog. Please quote your price to the amount of people coming and not explain in terms and conditions, that the quote is for a couple and every additional person pays extra as well as the dog, it just doesn't sit well. Lovely Cottage but freezing
The cottage itself was lovely and oozing charm. However it really did lack furnishings that would have helped to warm up the house during the winter months, e.g floor rugs, curtains, throw rugs etc. The house was absolutely freezing!!! For a house that sleeps 6 it really should have enough couches to accommodate 6 people, you can barely fit 4 adults on the one couch that is there. Yes it had a combustion fire and a generous supply of perfectly cut wood but it simply wasn't enough to warm the place up. Whilst at the cottage there was an issue with the water and we had no water for more than several hours and hence had to have our weekend interrupted by the owner fixing the issue. This sort of thing should be monitored more closely to prevent interruptions to guests weekends. The late check-in time of 4pm really is a little mean when you've taken a day off to enjoy a long weekend. The disposal of your rubbish at the end of the weekend is also an inconvenience, in all the years of short term renting properties we have never had to take our rubbish with us! Unfortunately we won't be returning.

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay. Its was everything we needed for a weekend getaway from our busy work life and suburban Sydney. The property had everything we needed and more and have recommended this stay to family and friends

Just Perfect
Restdown was the perfect getaway for us and our 2 dogs - who behaved perfectly. What a magical little house. Had everything we needed for a beautiful, quiet getaway. Beds were super comfy with electric blankets, tv, dvd, games, BBQ, fully equipped kitchen with yummy granola. Thank you so much for allowing us to bring our puppies. We hope to be back again - we loved it all.

Peaceful break away
Beautiful property perfect for a break away from it all. Was great to be able to bring our dog along too. Beautiful views and wildlife all around. Enjoyed getting cosy around the outdoor fire pit and indoor fire. The cabin is very unique and well worth a visit. Thank you.

Relaxing City Escape!

If you need to truly get away
Barrengarry.. feels like home but at the same time feels like you are away from everything. A truly amazing cottage that has a unique feel of 'getting away from it all'. Highly recommended if you're after time away with good friends or just a weekend with a cottage for 2!
