Good location
About a mile from LA Sagrada. Our room, however, looked straight out into the patient rooms of a hospital--not very picturesque. Staff was very helpful and car park was convenient.

Basic
Hotel suited our needs as we were out all day. Walls are paper thin, and rooms tiny. Otherwise comfortable.

Brilliant location
We stayed here for 4 nights. The room was basic but clean. However the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They would suggest restaurants, suggest places to go visit that wasn't typical tourist places that we know about, spoke us through the metro system etc. The location of the hotel was great for us. Two min walk to the metro and a street full if tapas restaurants, 10 min walk to the cathedral, a half hour walk to park guell, the same metro line as nou camp. Even though the hotel was basic it's a great hotel for a short stay. A safe area, cheap resturants, friendly and helpful staff and location I couldn't fault. I would recomend this hotel.

Great friendly staff, awesome location
Two very positive things about this hotel: very accessible to public transport (bus, metro taxi); and great staff. The hotel is just 10 minutes away (walking) from the Sagrada familia church, and a block or two away from the metro. The bus stop is just around the corner. The taxi stand is just across the street. From the airport we took the aeroport bus (5.90 e), which dropped us off at the Placa Catalunya. We've got a lot of luggages so from there we rode the taxi to the hotel (8 e). So my wife and I paid just 19 e for the two of us plus the luggages for the convenient transfer from the airport to the hotel. The staff were very helpful to our queries on how to go to the city's tourist sites. They also gave us some advice on best sites and a reliable money changer with high exchange rate. Breakfast was good. Composed of a selection of ham, bread, fruits, cereals, juices, coffee, and hard boiled eggs. The room we got is a double, whcih I think is a bit small but it's OK. What I did not like was the acoustics of the rooms. You can hear the stomps and bumps from the other room or from the hallway. The balcony was nice, with a view of the streets below. Wi-fi service was fast, though we had some trouble during the first night but it was eventually fixed. Thanks t the ever friendly staff, who speaks good English by the way. Airconditioning was seasonal. So this time at March, only the heater was functional. So we had to open the windows when the room got warm.

The room was small, and we didn't have a bath as I'd thought, but the hotel is well located and the staff excellent.

Good place to stay in Barcelona
Hotel was great. Wonderful staff, very helpful with all of our questions. Gave good directions and information. Hotel is adjacent to bus and metro, and a short 4 blocks to Sagria Familia. Will stay here again if we go back to Barcelona.

A MOST ENJOYABLE STAY
The hotel is in a quiet residential area not far from the center. The nearest Metro, Sant Pau-Dos de Maig, is a short distance away. The Sagrada Familia is also within easy walking distance. Location is a definite plus for this hotel. There are many cafes and restaurants in the area. Breakfast is usually not included in the room rate, but there are many cafes nearby. My brother and I had a most enjoyable stay.

Great Experience!
No fridge in room, and breakfast at €8 pp seems a lot (though good range & quality). The staff were very friendly and keen to be as helpful as they could. Very close to Sacrada Familia, Hospital St Pau, and metro. Lots of good restaurants nearby. In all a very positive experience.

Nice hotel, nice price, great location!
Well appointed, staff friendly and helpful, and great location to explore central Barca. If you are looking to stay near beach, head south but walking and metro make it easy to see most of the major sights with ease and low cost. Safe in room is good but they charge 2€ a night. Great little cafe downstairs serving food so good we ate their several times. Overall 3.5 stars but considering VFM it's 4 Stars!

One of the best away from home stays I have had I experienced at the Medicis Hotel. The facility was spotless. Its decor is restful, offering a rest that is friendly and most welcomed at the end of a long journey. The staff is professional, friendly, helpful – housekeepers as well as desk agent. The desk agent was a font of information about the neighborhood as well as the tourist's attractions. The hotel was a good walk from my major destination: Sagrada Familia and a short bus ride from the central city. The breakfast was tasty and filling. I particularly enjoyed the cafe con leche. An unforgivable stay.

All Good Stuff
Reception staff are awesome - excellently multilingual and full of info about public transport, restaurant recommendations etc. The hotel itself is quite basic (no gym and no restaurant but why you would want them is beyond me as there are masses of places to eat nearby) but the unlimited free wi-fi was nice. Room was perfectly clean and would have been perfectly comfortable if it had been a genuine double rather than a twin - make sure you are getting a double when you book... Storgae space is good and there is a safe in the room - but the walls are verging on paper-thin, we could hear our neighbours brushing their teeth! Overall a pleasant and excellently located hotel - easy walking distance to all the Gaudi stuff, a short metro ride to the city centre and less than a minute's walk from a bar that sells San Miguel at 1 euro a bottle...

Lovely stay
Wonderful experience, the staff are very welcoming and helpful, the hotel offers travel adapters which proved very useful. walking distance to Sagrada Familia so that's a plus. Only cons: walls are a bit thin, could hear everything the other rooms were doing. The breakfast is a bit pricy (€8) for what it provides.

Four Day City Break
Just wanted a cheap deal for a 4 day break as we knew we would be spending little time in the hotel as we would be sight seeing all day, this hotel was basic but perfect for our needs. The hotel was clean and bright and we had fresh bedding and towels daily. There is a safe in the rooms and a hair dryer, however, if you have long or thick hair take your own dryer, this one takes forever!! The staff could not have been more helpful and were extremely knowledgeable about the transport services available to take us to the sights we wanted to see (and the airport on the way home). The hotel has bus and metro stops all within a very short walking distance (less than 5 minutes) away. The hotel is on a busy cross road and having been warned about the noise by other reviews we went prepared with ear plugs and wasn't troubled by the noise at all!! Would definitely return to and recommend this hotel, for the money we couldn't have asked for more, it was ideal.

Great budget Hotel but bring the earplugs!
Staff were very friendly and knowledable about the surrounding area. The Hotel was modern looking and clean and in a great location for routes into the city and only a few blocks from the Sagrada Familia Cathedral. Not too many places to eat nearby though. The rooms were very clean and tidy and we were lucky enough to have a balcony which looked out onto the busy street. This became a bit of an issue at night as the noise of the traffic was quite loud but take some earplugs and you'll be fine! Having said that the walls are also paper thin and you can hear quite a lot from the other rooms, Hi Ben and Ange!!! These issues however did not spoil the overall stay, we would recommend this Hotel to anyone looking for a budget place to explore the city for a few days.

Great Hotel, OK location
Medicis was a great hotel, very clean, comfortable, the staff was soo helpful, the breakfast was delicious (for 8 euros, but we made sandwiches and took it with us), it was safe and secure, and had lots of character. It was located about 10min walk from the Sagrada Familia, but near another metro stop. The location was OK, but a little far out from the center. But, the hotel staff, especially Julio, was very helpful in giving us bus routes and info o how to get around the city. If you're not too concerned with staying right in the centro, I'd recommend this hotel.

Very clean. modern, good service and 3 mins form metro. Walking distance to Sagrada Familia and cafes and shops. But can be noisy with thin floors (chambermaid hovering in morning and making beds) and lift is loud if you stay too near the shaft. Otherwise its a great place. Would recommend if you get a room away from the lift and do not like to sleep in.

Out of the centre, away from the masses
I've never liked Barcelona, the thousands of tourists that overwhelm the centre and the scummy Ramblas area with its endless dangers so it was nice to see the real Barcelona and to be able to walk around the neighbourhood totally safely! Hotel Medicis is a 10 Euro taxi ride out of the centre, perfectly walkable if you are up to it. It's right next to the Hospital Sant Pau which is a really nice building, just off Avinguda Gaudi leading down to Sagrada Familia (2 mins away). The avenue is pedestrianised so full of cafes and shops but with mainly locals until you get to the bottom end. You can eat great food really cheaply up here with a view of the church in the distance so it's still distinctly Barcelona. The hotel itself is quite small but well staffed, our room was modern and clean, most furniture was Ikea. Free wifi was a nice bonus but the aircon could have worked bettter! If you can get this hotel cheaply then I'd recommend it, hotels in this city don't come cheap though unfortunately.
