Great Stay!
We had a lovely stay in this cozy little home. It was in great proximity to Bar Harbor shopping and restaurants— just a quick drive. Check in/out process was super simple and the property manager, Roland, was very helpful. Bonus points because the home had a pack-and-play and high chair available for use! 10/10!!

Large house close to Acadia
Large home with character about 15 minutes from Acadia. House enabled us all to have our private space after long days in the park. Two bathrooms would have been ideal but one was sufficient.

Cosy old house
The house is very picturesque and cosy, it has a lot of space and the quiet location in the woods allows for very good night sleeps. The brand new grill in the garden was great for BBQ. The house is old: with a renovation and newer kitchen appliances I would have rated it 5 stars. Roland was a very reliable and kind host

Very enjoyable stay
The house is very spacious, accommodating and full of old charm. We were two families and there was enough room for all of us to spread out. The kitchen was well-equipped for us to cook all our meals. Kids enjoyed the spacious front and back yards that has a swing. The house is a short drive from the entrance to Acadia and all the highlights. Roland is very responsive - we had a minor issue in the kitchen which he addressed promptly. Overall, a great place to stay - Felix

Failed expectations
Not super clean. Plenty of deferred maintenance. A little funky (?). Strange odor. Lots to be desired. Not sure this was a good value. Owner super nice and willing to accommodate.

Beautiful Farm House
My family and I loved staying at this property. I am really sorry for all the negative reviews. We traveled with a 5 and 6 year old and they loved “The Farm House”. We loved playing basketball, it is a short drive to Acadia and downtown and a walk away from the water. The place was extremely clean. We noticed no smells what so ever. The house is over 150 years old and is maintained well. The charm is wonderful. The lot is great and on a quiet street. There were even a few puzzles and games our kids could play. There are three brand new couches and a chair that aren’t shown in the current pictures. We enjoyed coffee on the porch and walking in the community! Thanks for an amazing stay. We will definitely be back!

Great stay
Had a great time, owner is super responsive and accommodating. It is a rustic, older farmhouse home and has all the charm and qualities as such. I think some of the negative reviews are from people coming in with different expectations and didn’t look at the reviews or pics. Multiple air purifiers throughout the home helped with my kids allergies. Clean and linens and paper products provided. Again, as others have said- pay attention to the description- there is only ONE bathroom on the second floor (I missed it the first time I read the description and didn’t pick up on it until I read reviews). If this will be an issue, you’ve been warned, our family did fine and the boys learned a little patience and to appreciate their own 2.5 bathroom home a little more. Otherwise this is a great property- literally 10 min door to door to downtown bar harbor. I will be coming back with our next trip to acadia.

Nice location, lost potential
Want to feel like you’re vacationing in a Stephen King book? Now is your chance! This old house sets the perfect scene for cracking jokes about living with The Shining or wondering if Dobby the house elf lives in any of the under-stair closets of this cool old 1880’s house…unfortunately while we poked fun, the potential of such an amazing property has truly gone unused because the truth is, this is a pretty run down property that needs a major facelift for the price you pay to stay here. The property the home sits on is actually really nice. We did enjoy walking around in the woods behind the house and exploring the water well on the property and sitting in the backyard to read in the morning. Even if we were convinced that we’d look out and see the ghost of a little girl swinging on the creepy old swing set. It’s not like we didn’t expect some quirks (and even a few mice) in a house that is over 150 years old or that we expected it to be in pristine condition, but for such a high price, we did expect door locks (back door lock is completely broken, when mentioned to owner I was told, “It’s a safe neighborhood”), a tub that drains properly (water raises to your ankles and doesn’t drain even by the time of next user), mice poop to be vacuumed and a warning about the dishwasher that needs to be rolled over connected to and run at the sink. Some serious TLC and an interior paint job could make this house amazing, unfortunately it just is not worth the high price as it is right now. Trust the low reviews (not the owners responses as we did while trying to give the benefit of the doubt) before booking!

Maine vacation house
The house has a gravel driveway on a hill. No walkway to the house. You walk up a grass hill with a couple of slate stones scattered about. Not safe at all for anyone with walking or balance issues. All the furniture is uncomfortable and looks as if it was purchased at yard sales. The stairs going to the 2nd floor are not up to code. Again, dangerous for children, elderly or people with balance issues. All beds are very cheap mattresses and very uncomfortable. The tub has a fireplace hanging over part of it and the toilet is a little tiny thing. There is a 3-season porch that only has windows that do not open. No screens to enjoy the weather or crickets. Ridiculous! All windows are original from 1800's and most do not even work or open. The front and back doors are also original always stick shut. I asked if there was a grill and was told YES! It was a rotted piece of junk. It had Coke cans holding up the gas jets. The front panel and the bottom were completely rotted off. They attached an aluminum tray to replace the rotted bottom to catch droppings and grease. A complete fire hazard! We were going to at least try it since we bought $200.00 worth of items to grill but the propane bottle was empty! I wasted my money on items to grill as there was no usable grill on the property. We had to fry steak tips and chicken wings on the house stove. I feel that we were over charged for this property. Do not rent this place!

Great location, house needs some upgrades
We had a very nice stay and the house was fine for our needs, but it could be so much nicer with some upgrades. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of towels and supplies. The house is very roomy with lots of space to spread out and the enclosed front porch is where we spent most of our time. The only bathroom is upstairs, it really could use a half bath downstairs. The windows are not in good shape, most don't open or are very hard to open. The dishwasher is a portable that you have to move and connect to the kitchen sink, which means you can't really use the kitchen sink while the dishwasher is hooked up to it, and the kitchen sink is the only place to wash your hands or get water downstairs. The stove needs all the drip pans replaced, they are rusted/burnt thru and some of the plastic knobs are broken. The cookware was ok, but we had to search through all the teflon pans to try and find some that were not all beat up, they need to throw away many of the teflon pans. Host needs to get some large plastic spoons, so people aren't using metal ones on the teflon pans. The main lock on the back door was broken and the owner added a small slide lock, which would not keep anyone out, if they were trying to break in, based on a previous review, it has been like this for over a year. The outside of the house needs painting and the owner stated that it is hard to get that done when guest are staying there, which is true, but he needs to get it done. There was no gutter to catch the rain coming off the roof at the front landing, so if you had to come or go during a rain storm, then you had to walk under a waterfall, this needs to be fixed. Upstairs at the end of the hall leading to the bathroom, there is a two inch step up that is a tripping hazard, I am surprised no one else has mentioned this and I am surprised the owner has not done anything to mitigate or at least make it more clear that it is there. Overall we had a nice stay and the owner is a very nice man and very responsive, if you need him for anything.

It has potential.....
We booked a stay at this home for June 24th and 25th 2018. Bar Harbor was the last destination on our family trip through the New England states. The home was advertised as a Picturesque New England Farmhouse. The photos in the advertisement are pictures of a lovely, well kept home. When we arrived, we weren't quite sure that we arrived at the right home. The address is not well marked. The grass needed cut. The landscaping has all but taken over the outside of the home. On the back porch the vines had grown around a fishing rod and pulled the fishing rod into the vine itself. The paint is peeling. The steps on the front porch are pulling away from the porch and slanted down. None of the screen doors stay shut unless you latch them. Windows have green duct tape on them to cover cracks. And, when you enter the first thing you notice - even though the windows were open - is the smell. It is a cross between mold and a wet dog. The furnace was broken and the owner left small space heaters for us to use. None of the smoke detectors had batteries in them and did not work, save the one above the television in the living room. The furniture in the living room had green duct tape over tears. The couch in the sun porch had an open tear with stuffing coming out. There are no curtains or blinds on the first floor, so you feel like you are sitting in a fish bowl. The place was clean in that there wasn't any dirt on the floor and it had been dusted. But the smell, I really wish you could capture that in a picture. We contacted the owner the following morning about the safety concerns (none of the detectors working) and advised we wouldn't be spending the next night. He agreed to refund $275 - almost 1 full night stay. He advised via text July 3rd when I asked where the refund was, that it was in the mail as of that day. To date (7/8) I haven't received it, we shall see if it arrives. I cannot post pictures here, but I did review this property on Yelp and uploaded my pictures there (sand point road rental). I have stayed in homes via HomeAway before with much success. This house was disappointing.

This is a quaint older home with a picturesque yard complete with wishing well.. it’s in an attractive neighborhood (great for walking) and very near entrance to Arcadia. The master bedroom and enclosed porch are a joy to experience. It is an older home as described with casual decor. Host was responsive.

Charming older home with lots of character.
Charming older home with lots of character. The staircase is very steep and would not be recommended for small children or those with difficulty walking/climbing. Good amount of space for people to spread out between living area, dining room, sun room. Kitchen had all supplies needed. Could use a couple new ice cube trays. Nice, quiet neighborhood. Great location for Acadia National Park. Short ride for getting to downtown Bar Harbor.

Very quite, secluded location. Reminded me of my grandma’s farmhouse. Loved the lovely front enclosed porch. We had 4 adults and managed to get by with one bathroom, but as a friendly suggestion would recommend a mirror in the bedrooms, with nearby outlet for doing hair or makeup.

Cute Old House In A Great Location
The rental was fantastic for our family's stay in Bar Harbor. It is 10 minutes to the Acadia Entrance and downtown Bar Harbor, so the location is great while also not being in the busy downtown. The property is very cute with a classic old house that fits exactly what you would expect when you go to Maine. The description is accurate and the house had everything we need for our stay. I would highly recommend this rental for anyone.

We loved the location, out of town, near the water. This is a very old house, a bit of a musty smell. Adequately suited out needs though. The stairs to the only bathroom are very steep and would not be appropriate for children or anyone with mobility issues.

Nice retreat!
This is a nice old home and it is accurately described. It’s charming and quirky. I grew to really like it over the days we stayed there. We found everything we needed and Roland was responsive to questions. I liked the area - quiet neighborhood. It’s a nice road for a run or walk. We frequently saw a deer family grazing in the front yard. We liked the basketball hoop in the driveway. It’s a nice place to stay.

Wonderful location, uncomfortable house.
This house could be so gorgeous. The surrounding property and location are beautiful and prime for spending time exploring Acadia and eating lobster rolls. It had several issues that made it uncomfortable as guests. Perhaps temperature control is not always important in Maine, but in August it was really hot and humid. Three of the four sleeping spaces do not have AC at all. The numerous reviews about the musty odor are correct for the downstairs. The upstairs smells fine. We are totally not a picky group, but I would say that we noted worn furniture, window panes that were cracked and held in place by tape, and 'curtains' that were simply tacked over the window. Additionally, the owner arrived without notice on our first day to bring TP/paper towels (which was appreciated) and entered the house in order to reiterate that we start laundry prior to leaving (not really appreciated). Despite these relatively minor issues, we had a grand time.
