Mountain view cabin & private trout pond in Banner Elk near Sugar & Beech Mt

Rustic mountain-top lincoln-log styled cabin with great mountain views on 17 acres with a private stocked trout pond less than three miles from down-town Banner Elk close to Beech and Sugar Mountain.

This ten room SMOKE-FREE cabin includes four bedroom, two full bathrooms and is Lincoln Log style. The cabin is anything but rustic as the kitchen appliances are new, has internet access as well as free Wi-Fi. You can feel your blood pressure start to drop as you drive up the winding private landscaped driveway. We overlook the backside of Beech Mountain Ski resort and are only seven miles from the base of Sugar Mountain. The cabin sits is nestled on 17 secluded acres on top a mountain which overlooks a valley and horse pasture. A stream runs thru the property and has a pond that comes complete with a fishing dock and gazebo. The house is near trout streams for the fly fishing enthusiast. If you don’t fish, relax in the magnificent sunroom and enjoy the panoramic mountain view, or enjoy sitting on the covered front porch in the rocking chairs and enjoy the mountain view while watching the hummingbirds, deer, turkey and other wildlife.

All of your guests will enjoy their privacy as the cabin has 2200 square feet of covered living area, ten rooms and comfortably sleeps eight. There is a bedroom on the ground floor which has a queen size bed. Upstairs, there are two master bedrooms with king size beds while the fourth has a trundle bed. It is perfect retreat to comfortably accomodate two families. There is a full bathroom on each floor. This cabin has Satellite TV in the living room, DVD in the sunroom and lots of special features including a ramp entry, custom wormy chestnut cabinetry, hardwood floors downstairs and carpeting upstairs, exposed beams, luxurious bath towels and linens, washer/dryer, a covered parking area and more. When the weather is cool, sit in the living room, enjoy the wood burning fireplace and toast marshmallows or sit in the sunroom and watch the colors of autumn unfold. There is a cabinet in the sunroom which is filled with board games, and there is a dollhouse which will delight the younger members of your group.

This is a perfect place for a “Workcation” as there is free WiFi, and two different areas where you can work but still enjoy the view. We do have an “extender” to enhance cell reception.

Escape the heat as this cabin is 4200 ft. above sea level and located in Banner Elk, which has the highest elevation of any city in the Southeast. We built this cabin to escape from the south Florida heat. Although this cabin does not have air conditioning, you will need blankets at night, and there are plenty of quilts in the cabin in which to wrap yourself. The sunroom and each bedroom has an overhead fan, and all of the windows have screens. We sleep with the windows open in the summer (but sometimes have to close them as it gets so cool. In the fall, the temperature starts to drop but not to worry as there is baseboard heat, and you can set the thermostat in each room to your liking.

There are lots of activities nearby including rafting, canoeing, snow skiing, fishing, rock climbing, zip lining, mountain biking, gem mining, and hiking. Pick blueberries and blackberries in season or pick apples or pears from the fruit trees on this unique property. Four wheel drive, chains or all wheel drive are suggested in winter conditions. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity!

Family reunion getaway
We had 8 people staying. Had plenty of room . We loved the sunroom for looking at the beautiful views and playing lots of card games . We usually stay in Tennessee, but this year we decided to stay a little further out. We were only 20 minutes from our destination and we enjoyed ourselves immensely and we hope to return soon.

It’s not a rental house, it’s a home
To say we loved staying here would be an understatement. Many places are rental houses, but this was more like a home away from home. There was a sense of welcoming in every room. The porch view exuded relaxation. Our stay was brief, but our next one will definitely be here and will be much longer.

A relaxing and peaceful getaway
The house was incredibly clean! I always go into rentals expecting to need to do a little cleaning before I cook or use the bathrooms cause normally some thing’s are overlooked but that was not the case here. There was not a dead bug anywhere, the dishes and kitchen were cleaned and spotless everything was so nice and inviting. I was a little nervous about the ‘no a/c’ thing and it being in June, but that was not a problem at all. We opened the windows and it actually got chilly at night. The driveway is very steep and I totally get why you need 4WD in the winter but it wasn’t a problem. The property was just so peaceful and relaxing. The perfect getaway!

Perfect Getaway
This property was just what we needed! It is the perfect place to unplug and unwind; however, the house has incredible WiFi if you don’t want to unplug. The house was beautiful and extremely clean when we arrived and had everything we needed for the perfect long weekend. The homeowner was extremely attentive and checked to see if there was anything we needed and there wasn’t. Overall probably the best VRBO stay that we have ever had. The herds of deer on the property and the private trout pond made the stay even more special. I cannot say enough positive things about the homeowner or the house. We are definitely happy with the experience and will definitely stay there again!

Beautiful property and amazing hostess
This property is spectacular with lots of green space for the kids to run around and play, a stream running through the property where the kids spent hours hunting for crawfish and salamander and a stocked pond for fishing. (We were there in the very early spring, so the pond water level was down and no fish due to it not being stocked yet for the season) The home itself was very cozy and had plenty of space for our 2 families of 4. Wonderful wood burning fireplace in the living room that made it even better and a fantastic sunroom with tons of seating. The kitchen was also well equipped! Mary Frances couldn’t have been a better host and you can tell she truly cares about her home. She was wonderful and available to answer all questions and gave great local recommendations for food.

Comfortable, cozy and clean
Our part of eight stayed in this mountain cabin, which was perfect for our needs. It was private, so we did not have to worry about disturbing neighbors. It was very comfortable having four bedrooms and a separate large sun room over looking the Mountain View. Although we were gone during the daytime, we enjoyed sitting around the fireplace and making dinner at the cabin instead of eating out. Communication with the owner was very transparent . Would definitely suggest renting this cabin. Our group all agreed that we would come back if given the opportunity.

Owner was very communicative. Property was beautiful, private and very comfortable. We enjoyed watching the herd of deer daily. She had a pack and play for my grandson so we were able to have one on each level as we had also brought one with us. Very enjoyable stay. Thank you!

A mountain gem
We had a lovely time in a very comfortable and relaxing environment. The cabin is located in a picturesque and relatively secluded environment - there's only one neighbor in sight or sound distance. My adult daughter really liked the pear tree out front and the porch swing. We hope to stay again one day!

Spacious cabin; easy to enjoy and share
My husband and I invited another couple to join us along with their daughters (2 & 11) and one of their moms. Such a great time! Between the enormous back room facing the woods, the front living room — with dear wandering past the window — and the big kitchen table, we could easily gather or find privacy. This cabin feels every bit like a beloved family vacation home. The bears had beat us to any fish in the pond, but the walk down to it is a gorgeous nature hike. Loved watching deer eat fallen pears below the tree in front of the house. We were in the area for the Land of Oz and didn’t find the drive back and forth to the mountain top overly daunting. I appreciated the laundry facilities as we were there five nights in the midst of a two-week road trip. Our host was quick and helpful in reply to my only on-site question, and was professional and attentive before and after our stay. I heartily recommend and would happily return.

Always an amazing stay
This home is always perfect! The owner communicates well and is flexible when able. The house is a great location close to everything and not a scary driveway lol. You will always see deer and its a peaceful retreat. We have stayed here 2x and will continue to book this place. We have an 18, 16, 15 14 year old kids and there was great space inside and out for them to enjoy their space as well. We played games in the sunroom and walked the property when not out doing things in town

Home away from home
This cabin was just what I was hoping for : a cozy mountain getaway that felt private and tucked away in the trees by a meadow, while being close enough to drive into town for dinner. My boys (11 and 13) enjoyed the trout pond, the deer, the pear tree, and the tv, while my in-laws enjoyed the sunroom and a private downstairs bedroom. My husband and I appreciated the comfy king-sized bed and just being with family in lovely place. It had everything we needed, plenty of space, was clean, instructions were clear, and our host communicated clearly and responded quickly. I was really sad to leave!

Cool and quiet nights
This vintage 1982 cabin provides all the basics for a calming family retreat. There is room for everyone to be together or spread out. Wildlife viewing and star gazing were wonderful from the front porch, while reading was our preferred pastime on the comfortable enclosed back porch. We observed the Milky Way, deer, turkey, fireflies, chipmunks and 38 species of birds from the cabin. There were large spans of time where the only sounds were from an occasional bird. I have never experienced such deep quietness. Even though it was the hottest weekend of the year, we stayed cool and sleep was refreshing due to the quiet, cool air, and large comfy beds. The kitchen has all the essentials and there is a washer and dryer in the basement. Consider buying all your groceries before you drive up the mountain to the cabin, as you may not want to go back into town! There are two other vacation cabins that share the ridge. While we were there a large family reunion was happening with all the accompanying happy sounds of music, family, and kids playing in what must be a swimming pool on the deck. There were moments when I longed to have the entire ridge to ourselves as the quiet, when it was quiet, was what I needed more than anything. Mary Frances was a great and thorough communicator and we enjoyed the glimpses into the O’Malley’s family history on the mountain.
