This is the second year my family has stayed at the Stonehouse for Thanksgiving. Last year my daughter rented it for us, when we talked about Thanksgiving Day plans everyone yelled, Stonehouse! Therefore, I rented it for the family and we stayed one day longer then last year because the place is so beautiful. It was unbelievable how clean, well kept and big the house is. The house had everything to keep you com The yard and surrounding grounds are breath taking and well maintained.
We stayed at this gorgeous house twice in three weeks — a sooner return than expected in order to be near family in a crisis. This spectacular home made a great home base - close enough to key areas to be helpful, but far enough away to get away. While the home is wonderful in every way, there may be a watch out: smoke alarm beeps have been an issue both visits, despite notice to the manager after the first one. It’s such a great house, you might want to book it, and check the batteries before you fall asleep ;-)
Stone Farm House from the 1850’s. Secluded and privite during non wedding days. If you’re looking for a private residence, roomy and equipped with all your needs, this is the place. The house is located in a very rural area. Plenty of open rooms for the living area, living-room, dining room, kitchen and half bath all on the main floor, 4 bedrooms upstairs with two full baths, and a cool basement for darts, games and an overall young adult hangout area. House is located in a very rural area, Owner Julia was very responsive and happy to answer any of our questions and provided an easy check-in and out. Our visiting area was Owosso and it was only a 20 min drive to the historic town. Thank you, Julia, for making our trip so special.
We drove from Indianapolis to stay here and go to the Polar Express in Owosso MI (only a 15 minute drive from the house). House was very clean. A lot of land to run around on and lots of old country charm in the house.
The Stone House perfectly captures the balance of authentic, preserved, old-country farmhouse with modern updates and comforts. It has all the good traits I remembered from my grandparents farm, including the semi-circle of eclectic seating around the substantial fireplace, multi-layered bedding, and the open stone walls in the play-space basement. This inviting and warm home is set in a wide open space between Mid-Michigan’s open horizons allowing you to watch sunrise, sunset, and a vast canopy of stars from the property - even from some windows. We had no interactions with Matt or anyone other than our family and friends because all of our needs were met. We would love to stay again.
Pros: Gorgeous space. Great location. Lots of room. Fireplace. Very clean. Cozy. Perfect vibe for a winter cabin weekend. Extra travel size toiletries in the master bathroom. Excellent showers and bathrooms. Good water quality especially considering it’s well water (not too metallic tasting). Historic building, but perfectly updated while holding on to historic charm. Excellent price. Essentially no cleaning or extra work for checkout - easiest checkout I’ve ever had.
Cons: A ton of perfume plug-ins, smell was overwhelming for us. Kitchen was not as well equipped as we needed. Beds weren’t very comfortable.
Every year a group of my friends stay at a cabin for NYE weekend, which also happens to be my birthday weekend. This is the nicest cabin we’ve stayed in. The views of the snow covered fields from the windows while sitting by the fire were priceless. We wished there were more hiking trail options within walking distance, but the ones we found were only about 15-25 minute drive away, not too bad. We did a few mile hike each day and were back to the cabin for lunch and afternoon naps. The appliances in the kitchen are new and work beautifully, we just wished the kitchen were a little better equipped for cooking in. A whisk, can opener, electric mixer to go with the electric mixing blades, some metal mixing bowls, tea kettle for boiling water, some serving bowls/plates are honestly the only upgrades I can think of for the place. We didn’t want for much while we were enjoying tour trip. We are suckers for old historic architecture so we especially appreciated the little write up about the property and photos of the renovations.
The cabin is obviously most often used for weddings, as the decorations and quotes are all geared toward happily ever after love stories. This is a cute space for couples.
What a great experience! The property and Stone House is something my family will remember for a long time. The place was beautiful and the accommodations were great. Everyone slept well. The pictures do not do it justice!
