Holy Island is a short drive away and is reached by a causeway at low tide; it is one of the oldest sites of Christianity in Britain. On the island is the 16th-century Lindisfarne Castle (seen from the kitchen of Beach View), remodelled by Lutyens and with a small Gertrude Jekyll garden. Inland, the Cheviots and moors are ideal for walking, cycling and pony trekking.
