PERFECT LOCATION! Lake Superior View, AuTrain River (Kayak), Snowmobile Trail

When you go to the beach what do you want to see? THE BEACH, on crystal clear blue Lake Superior.
Our cottage is located in the village of Au Train where life's a beach! Whether its summer, fall or winter, nature is always inviting with its seasonal changes. It truly is an "out of city experience" for all seasons. There is nothing like a walk on the beach, a swim in crystal clear water, kayaking/canoeing and fishing til your heart's content, snowmobiling directly from cottage to trail, or just touring the area looking at the beautiful fall colors. Beautiful Lake Superior is the world's largest freshwater lake and it's just a hop, skip, and jump across the road! It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Upper Peninsula.

Our Cottage IS THE ONLY COTTAGE IN THE VILLAGE WITH A VIEW OF LAKE SUPERIOR!

Enjoy the unique deck while gazing out onto the beautiful blue hues of Lake Superior and listening to the waves crashing against the shoreline. Imagine this moment! The cottage is set back in a private area off the road and adjoins the owner's property. Plenty of trees for a privacy buffer. The cottage is the only rental on the property, which makes for a private vacation experience. The cottage grounds has plenty of space for boats, snowmobile trailers, etc. The cottage is located on the DNR trail so there are snowmobiles or ATV's on the trail, especially on the weekends. The cottage has all foam insulation which deadens the sound, however, if you are looking for someplace out in the country where there is absolutely no noise, then this is not the place for you. We live next door and the noise doesn't bother us. It is all in the view and the location close to the Lake Superior beach and the the Au Train River that is important to us.

In the winter, snowmobiling is directly out the front door. No need to trailer the machines. Ample parking for snowmobile trailers. Snowshoe or cross country ski down DNR trail #418 which runs adjacent to the property or across the sand dunes to experience Lake Superior's wild winter waves. Ice Climbing is also popular along the Pictured Rocks shoreline. We even have an Ice Fest weekend in February. About 20 miles away is a small community which hosts their famous 'Outhouse Races' the third week in February! Huge crowds come to watch home-made outhouses race down the streets of Trenary on a thick sheet of snow and ice.

Kayak/canoe launch on the Au Train River across the street with fishing pier and handicap boat launch within 200 ft. Kayak down the famous Au Train River or out into the fresh clear water of Lake Superior. Great winds for kite surfers too! Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a short 12 miles away which features the famous Pictured Rocks Boat Tours, Shipwreck Boat Tours, and hiking along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The UPSCALE cottage was just built in 2014 which features tongue and groove knotty pine vaulted ceiling in the living room/dining room and knotty pine hardwood flooring. Master BR features a hickory queen size platform bed with 6 drawers for storage and a closet. Second BR features one twin bunk bed and one full size bunk bed both made of solid pine and sturdy enough for adult use. Three drawers under twin bunk for storage. Bathroom consists of full sized washer & dryer and tub/shower combo. We even supply laundry detergent. Kitchen showcases new stainless steel range and a 6' counter for serving/eating meals. Some say the counter tops resemble birch trees. Plenty of cabinet space with Lake Superior rock drawer pulls on the cabinets. Refrig and built in microwave & dishwasher. Small appliances included too...slow cooker, Keurig, coffee pots, etc. Table seats 4-6 and counter seats 2-4. Bright beachy theme displaying Lake Superior photos. Large gas grill is available with propane included. We even provide wood for the fire pit!
Our landscaping is a work in progress as we have to work in between our guests schedules. Our guests have commented, "We feel like we were the first ones here." I take much pride in keeping the cottage very clean for our guests enjoyment and comfort. All you need to bring is your food, clothing, and a desire to have a great vacation.

Wow!
From my first contact with Michelle to the end of my family's stay, we felt welcomed. The Lake Superior Cabin is beautiful. It far exceeded my expectations. From it's convenient location, to the comfortable beds, great water pressure in the shower, and so many smaller homey touches, I didn't want to leave. The memories made will be forever cherished! Thank you, Michelle! We had an amazing vacation!

We were so pleased with the house! This house was the cleanest we've experienced. It fit our family perfectly! We also felt it was in a great location between Munising and Marquette. We enjoyed Pictured Rock and the visited several waterfalls that were about 15 min. away. Then we went to the Lighthouse and Presque Isle. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer. Michelle did a wonderful job communicating. We also appreciated all of the information for things to do around the area and restaurants. It was very helpful! Highly recommed!

In the woods, but by a beach
This home has newly constructed bedrooms and bathroom that were perfect for my husband and I. We did not use the bunk room that has 4 bunk beds. It is perfectly located between Marquette and Munising while also being a short walk across the road to a beach on Lake Superior with great sunsets. Walk up in the woods, walk to the beach, travel to a town...just perfect!

Excellent location. Clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped cottage. Beautiful surroundings and very close to Lake Superior. Waterfalls, trails, and attractions nearby. Friendly hostess provided helpful local information. Suitable for couples and families. The two bunkbeds in one room can sleep four kids. Bonus feature: this cottage has the biggest and best residential washer and dryer we've ever seen in our lives! We enjoyed a delightful stay.

This cottage was perfect for us. Walking distance to Lake Superior beach and the Au Train river, short drive into Munising, but still a private little hide-away. It was very clean and well stocked. We enjoyed the fire pit almost every night, fire wood supplied!

Michelle was a wonderful host and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at her cabin. 2 minute walk to the river or the beach was fantastic. Short drive to Marquette and Munising for the touristy things. We saw sandhill cranes walk through the property multiple times. I cant say enough positive things about this location and host. We hope to return someday.

Perfect Getaway location to check out Lake Superior Lighthouses
Easy to get to and in the perfect location for us. We traveled a lot during our stay making our way from Whitefish Point (about 2 hours away) and to Copper Harbor (just over 3 hours away). The cabin was right in the middle. We visited 7 lighthouses and over 20 waterfalls while we traveled. Very clean. The cabin has room to sleep 2 adults on a queen bed and 4 more in a shared room with 2 twin bunk beds. We were very happy and would stay here again.

Au Train Amazingness!
Michelle and Jerry were wonderful hosts. Although the cabin is located on the property it’s definitely your own private oasis. Well stocked kitchen, comfy queen bed with plenty of storage in the closet and drawers under the bed. Nice big bathroom with lots of hot water. Nice, washer and dryer on the premises too. Great outdoor area to relax in whether grilling or having a bonfire. Close to Christmas casino, Wagner falls, Au Train falls and Pictured Rocks tours. I highly recommend the spray falls tour. About 1 hour away from Kitch-iti-kipi. Marquette about 30 minutes away. Best part, I could see Lake Superior from the dining table. Would definitely stay here again. There’s plenty of room for me to bring my grandkids next time.

I couldn’t recommend this cabin enough as a jumping off point for Upper Peninsula Adventures. It is outfitted with a well equipped kitchen and laundry, as well as comfortable bedding for adults and children.

Cute cabin in a lovely setting
Clean, comfy, and well-equipped. Nice owners. Pretty grounds with ample parking, and nice outdoor living space and view. We were in the area with some friends who had a different rental, so we didn't use as many of the amenities as we'd have liked, but it was nice to have a quiet place to unwind and do meal prep, etc. Would definitely recommend!

The Doucettes have a beautiful rental property and do everything they can to make the trip enjoyable. There was plenty of material on hand giving information on area attractions and Michelle gave us tons of ideas when we arrived. The location in Au Train was perfect for us as we checked out plenty of beautiful spots from Marquette to Grand Marais. Highly recommended.

The property was conveniently located, making it easy to get just about anywhere in the area. The host was available any time they were needed and answered immediately anytime I called with a question. The welcome package was fun and unexpected with some local treats. Right off of M-28 so a little more road noise than expected.

Great location for our trip!
Our family of five had plenty of space in the house and the location was perfect for our excursions! We stayed three nights, checking in the first evening with just enough time to catch a gorgeous sunset from the scenic overlook across the street. Next morning we left from Munising for our kayak trip in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, so it was a short drive to our departure point. We also biked on the Valley Spur mountain bike trail, which wasn’t far from the house. Great to be able to come home, change to our bathing suits and walk across the street and bridge to take a refreshing swim in the lake or the slightly warmer river, whichever we preferred! We appreciated being able to stay in this lovely home for our stay.

A very good location to enjoy the UP and Lake Superior
This wonderful little cabin was a great base of operations to pursue a wide variety of locations and activities throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The cabin was clean and charming. Being so very close to M-28 highway lead to a lot of road noise even inside the cabin. Things quieted down by about 9:30pm but started up again by around 7am. Even with that issue, we would stay here again. The hosts were wonderful and very helpful.

Great cottage by the lake
Just had a fantastic week stay at South Superior Cottage. The owner, Michelle, was great with communication even before the stay and it continued at check in when she gave us some suggestions of what to do during our stay. The cottage itself was great. Michelle has the kitchen well stocked with all the pots, pans and utensils you would need. She also leaves nice, detailed instructions on how to use appliances, etc. You also can't beat the location. It's literally across the street from Au Train Beach. From playing in the sand to watching the sunsets, it's all just a short walk away. We also spent every night making a fire with the dry firewood Michelle provided. The kids loved it. I can't recommend this cottage enough. We definitely will be back!
