An unusual and quaint little hostal in the centre of Aranjuez. The vestibule with a cabinet of model toy soldiers and the breakfast room, stairs going up and the reception office leads out to an inner patio courtyard overflowing and overcrowded with plant pots and compost, with two rows of surrounding balcony on the upper floors. There was some scaffolding inside and outside the building (April 2017). Our room was clean with comfortable beds, lots of hot water for showers and sachets of shower gel and shampoo, and the heating satisfactorily warmed the room in the night. Breakfast: tostada, butter, jam, coffee and orange juice freshly squeezed and all quickly and efficiently prepared by a very pleasant young man. Local Spanish came in for their breakfast of variations of the above. Aranjuez is a pretty little town with its Royal Palace, river, tourist train, municipal market (freshest looking fish, longed for a kitchen). In tourist high season parking might be difficult but we were able to park immediately outside. Those who prefer uniform black and grey modern hotels should go elsewhere but we loved the relaxing and peaceful Spanish atmosphere of this old fashioned historical funny little hostal. It was quite different to anywhere else we have stayed, has its charm, and yes, we will certainly return to stay just as soon as we can.
