On arrival I went to side of house to collect the key as instructed, and came back around to discover my husband already in, as someone had left a key in the door! The first thing we noticed was the horrible smell, like stale air freshener and carpet freshener, as if another unpleasant smell was being covered up. The cottage is very small, which isn't a problem in itself, but sitting room felt claustrophobic with the excessive amount of furniture and clutter that was stuffed into it. There were 2 small double bedrooms, the 2nd of which [ if you could call it a bedroom, it didn't have a window, no chance of escape in the event of a fire in the night! ] smelled particularly bad. The kitchen was ok, but the bathroom was the only really decent room. Before booking I asked specifically if the garden was enclosed and secure, as we have 2 dogs, I was assured it was, but discovered the tiny patch of garden was surrounded by a wall which was very low at the front with a rickety gate, the dogs could easily have jumped down from this onto the road, a small child could certainly topple over and have a nasty fall due to the drop on the other side. We went out for a few hours after unloading our stuff, and although we had been assured we could easily park our SUV on the street, when we came back we found that although there was a gap between 2 vehicles it was impossible to park as the road was too narrow to get in the gap without hitting wall on the other side. On re-entering the cottage we were immediately hit with the awful smell again, and decided we couldn't sleep there for one night, never mind the two we had booked! [ Thank goodness we had not booked a longer stay! ] We loaded up our stuff and headed home. Arrived at 2pm, home by 9pm! Awful
