Situated in the most idyllic and elevated position above Grasmere in Dale End, this lovely ground floor cottage apartment forms the lower part of the owner’s holiday home and enjoys the most magnificent views over the lake and surrounding fells. The view is just beautiful & we sat outside as much as we could with a glass or two! Would be lovely to have better furniture outside but we took our own fold up comfy chairs so no problem for us. Inside was well equipped with everything we needed. Such a stunning area with plenty to do, lots of walks & climbing on your doorstep. The location for walking and the views of Grasmere are outstanding.
The location for walking and the views of Grasmere are outstanding. The property is a flat located within a small part of the ground floor of a very large run down looking house. First impressions were not great as you approach from the back which looks shabby and you are greeted by lots of rules, about parking, and then on entering “don’t feed the birds bread” and “wait 3 minutes for hot water in the kitchen” and “don’t use candles” and things like ‘you should only use the dishwasher once a week” that kind of thing. Which was a bit off putting. I was left with the impression that the owners trade on the view and think that should be enough. There was nothing at all to make me feel welcome on arrival. I have to admit I was a bit spooked. That said, I soon settled, and the flat grew on me,. I got over the negative vibe and got very comfortable. There was good quality crockery and bed linen. The bedroom was the best room in the flat, I believe it was fairly newly decorated. A blind over the door window would add so much to general comfort and ambience - especially after dark. Overall - a good experience.

Beautiful location, lovely little apartment.
Beautiful location, lovely little apartment. Our only negative comment is that we feel that parts of it need updating. The kitchen being the main item, although we couldn’t fault the equipment supplied in the kitchen the cupboards and appliances were a bit shabby suffering from being poorly fitted.

The cottage was well appointed and clean although the kitchen could do with some new units and worktops. We liked the idea of the key safe which meant we didn't have to drive into Windermere to collect the keys. We were able to leave the car at the cottage and walk into Grasmere, where we could catch the excellent local buses, but the less able would not be able to walk the mile into the village and the mile back. So would have to take the car. Car parking is always an issue in the Lakes. Overall the cottage was fine, and we enjoyed our stay, but it's the view that is its main selling point and you could never tire of eating a meal or just sitting looking out over the lake. We would definitely think of going back there.

The shower was at best only warm .
The shower was at best only warm . The bath filled with hot water to about 50mm deep then just gave up . There was instructions in the cottage information about altering the controls on the storage heater, to make more energy available .Unfortunately the control knob was broken and had been for a long time . (Probably years)
