My partner and I came to visit Alnwick for her birthday, and after a previous stay at a Premier Inn, we decided we wanted something with more character. The Hog’s Head Inn is a really lovely hotel, and considering it broke ground in 2011, has a feeling of being built in the 1800s, with the wood and stone decor in the main bar area. Rooms were a really good size, and very clean. Great water pressure from the shower (which is a big plus for us!) and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would happily recommend the Hog’s Head Inn to anyone staying in Alnwick, and my partner and I are very much considering visiting other Inn Group hotels in the future. Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

Felt 10.30 check out rather early and breakfast finishing at 9.30 seemed a bit rushed. Otherwise lovely hotel, spacious room and peaceful setting.

Clean, spacious rooms and a fabulous buffet breakfast. Evening meal decent but quite a wait for food as it was busy. Great location for exploring the Northumberland coast and we could walk into Alnwick easily (1.5 miles)

Hotel was convenient for an A1 stop over, close to Alnwick shops and supermarkets and generally in good order decor-wise - lovely welcome and treats for our little dog thanks. The check in and out was easy and all staff were very friendly and helpful. Bathroom didn’t appear to have any ventilation and consequently was starting to get a musty aura about it and carpets in the ground floor corridors were not wearing too well for a newish hotel. Breakfast was hearty and plentiful and the hot buffet items could have been a tad warmer. Overall a good stay

Really nice, clean, comfortable accommodation and family friendly pub with good indoor and outdoor seating and playground. Delicious hot breakfast with tasty sausages and barista coffee to purchase. Only downside was no baby cot available, but still plenty of space in a family room for 4-6 to sleep very comfortably.

The only criticism I would have is that our room was a tad noisy due to the proximity of the road. Maybe triple glazing could be considered there, room102. However when I mentioned a faulty light in the bathroom it was fixed within the hour. Will definitely stay in this chain of hotels again.

Lovely place to stay if you have a vehicle but it is a bit far to get into downtown Alnwick and the Castle and Gardens. It is about a 30 minute walk. Uber and cabs are dicey at best. We took the bus, but it only runs hourly. Restaurant was great with a good breakfast that was included. Rooms are nice, but no fridge. The staff we interacted with were very friendly.

Poor catering and sound insulation
Bedroom was comfortable enough but faced the A1 and the sound insulation was inadequate to keep the traffic noise out. Breakfast menu was fine but they ran out of some dishes given the number of guests they had which was poor. Evening menu was limited and the extra fries we ordered were cold, hard and not cooked enough. We had to send them back. We were not offered an automatic refund for this and I had to get it deducted on check out which they did. In short, it was an adequate hotel but they really need to up their game on the catering and sound insulation in the bedrooms.

Great Decor and Reasonably Comfy
We mostly enjoyed our stay here! Loved the decor of the "lobby"/restaurant. The patio was lovely as well. The food was pretty good, and most of the staff was friendly. It's not Harry Potter themed at all despite the name, wish they at least had some sort of butterbeer variation on their menu, that'd do well given Alnwick Castle being so close by! Speaking of which, the hotel is a bit of a jog from all the sights to see in Alnwick so prepare to walk a lot, use a car or use the hotel bus if its during tourist season. The immediate surrounding area of the hotel is not very charming (gas station, business parks, fast food, highway) so you won't be hanging around there very much. The young lady that initially greeted us was a bit gruff and not very friendly, but the gentleman later in the day was very friendly and helpful. There was no air conditioning (that we could find) in the room, but we were able to open the window and that helped a bit.

Decent breakfast with lots of good options for a variety of palettes. Reasonably situated near Alnwick castle. Sainsbury’s and M&S within walking distance and Aldi if you’re up for a longer walk. Tea/coffee and biscuits in the room were a nice touch. A microwave and mini fridge would be a great addition. Better ventilation in the toilets is a must !

Alnwick week
It’s a great location with large comfortable rooms and comfortable bed. The restaurant and bar service was poor due to lack of staff to meet needs of busy bar & restaurant. Very busy and noisy M1 close by, with fast EV charger nearby
