Casita Galgo - Tranquility & Peace in the Historical Heart of Andalusia

Our smallest casita (meaning" Little Greyhound House") provides spacious, airy accommodation. Casita Galgo is an "upsidedown" cottage, with the ensuite
twin/large double bedroom downstairs, opening onto the private courtyard.

The open plan sitting room and fully equipped kitchen are upstairs, reached via an outside staircase - which takes advantage of the wonderful views down the valley. There is a full sized electric oven/ hob plus a fridge with a freezer compartment - essential for cooling the local beer and wine! A good range of plates, pots, glasses etc. allow for home from home, relaxed food preparation. Basics (such as salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid etc.) are provided as part of our service. There is a kitchen table to seat four for dining.

The private courtyard has a table and chairs for eating outside as well as a barbecue which is built into the chimney from the Cortijo's old outside kitchen and bread oven.

The communal patio and pool area is shared by a maximum of 10 guests and is set on the side of the hill facing fantastic views of the valley, hills and olive groves. There are tables and chairs provided for eating, or sitting with a cool drink and watching the sun set…… There are also cushioned loungers for sun worshippers! The pool is set on the edge of the patio and has a comfortable seating ledge in the water, giving you somewhere to sit and keep cool whilst you read or just gaze at the view…..
There is an outside shower room with toilet and basin so that you do not have to return to your casita once ensconced in the sunshine.

There is also a laundry room accessed from the pool patio area, with a washing machine, wash basin, iron and ironing board for communal use.

An hour and a half from the airports of Malaga and Granada, the secluded setting of Cortijo las Rosas, amidst tranquil olive groves, gives guests a chance to chill out and relax around the pool between days out visiting historic and cultural centres within easy reach: Antequera, Alcala la Real, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Ronda, Seville etc...

Taste the oil produced from the renowned olives of the Subbetica; enjoy the local wines from Montilla or the Anis produced in nearby Rute; barbecue the plentiful fish and seafood available or let us organise a takeaway from nearby Molino los Justos with its traditional “home cooking.” Our local town, Algarinejo, boasts the restaurant Casa Piolas which features in Jon Clarke’s “Dining Secrets of Andalucía” – their Menu de Degustación is an experience not to be missed!

Nearby Lake Iznajar offers a beach with pedalos and kayaks for hire with a beach bar on hand for cool drinks or eating. Walkers have the freedom to explore the countryside of the Subbetica right from their doorstep - or to walk amongst the extraordinary rock formations of El Torcal. El Chorro Gorge offers the adventurous a chance to experience the spectacular Camino del Rey or to trek around our local “mesa” overlooking the lake, and examine the archaeological dig carried out by the University of Granada – you might have to share the view with the goatherd and his goats...

Allow Cortijo las Rosas to help you unwind, enjoy an unspoilt Andalucía and guide you to its historic treasures.

An Oasis of Calm and Tranquility
The casita was very clean, well furnished and comprehensively equipped in the kitchen. The view from the pool was fantastic and we were well placed for day trips to Granada, Malaga, Cordoba and Ronda, never mind the other small jewels /villages in the area. We will return for another holiday in the future

Peace and quiet in the hills of Andalucia
The accommodation was beautiful, just the rural Spain retreat we were after! From the welcome pack to all the extras available such as umbrellas, eskies and ice bricks to pack a picnic, pool towels, charcoal bbq, whatever you might need for a perfect holiday. Our hosts were super welcoming and loaded with local knowledge. We didn’t want to leave

Great getaway
We had a fantastic week at the Cortijo in July. The Cortijo itself was beautiful. We stayed in Casita Galgo, which is split over two floors and has a nice little terrace with a barbecue. The pool was lovely too. It's a very peaceful setting and we found it a perfect getaway from the city. It's well located for day trips too. Marylynne and Gillian were helpful and friendly hosts. We loved it, and we can't recommend it enough.

Andalucian peace
Our stay at Cojita Las Rosas was just what we expected : a peaceful moment. Away from the town and the road, it is very quiet, surrounded by olive trees. The view by the pool is by the way just incredible. The casita is fully equiped (the kitchen has more ustensils than our own!) and Gillian and Marylynne thought about everything to make our live easier and stressless. The optional welcome pack is big and delicious, with local products. Gillian and Marylynne are absolutely adorable, which makes it even more enjoyable to stay there. Definitely a place to spend time to rest and enjoy life.

Relaxing, quiet, rual casita in the olive hills
This is a wonderfully restored property, in the rural countryside. The owners have thought of everything to make your holiday the best. The quality of workmanship and range of equipment in the Casitas are the best we have ever had. Nothing was too much for them to supply. A car is a must but driving is not so difficult. I had more problems getting out from East Midlands Airport to the M1 and home than at any time on the holiday. The path around the house is cobbles, looks lovely but if you do have problems it could be difficult. I would certainly recommend staying here for the views, real Spanish villages lots of history and plenty to see, if you can tear yourself away from the pool and quiet!

Cortijo Las Rosas.
Cortijo Las Rosas is a beautiful property situated way up in the hills you are surrounded by Olive groves. The individual casitas (there are 3) are comfortable, immaculate ,well stocked well maintained. Lots of helpful information from the owners re local activities and very friendly customer service. The pool and the hilltop views are very relaxing. Driving up the hill the first time was a bit daunting, and some nights were hot but a fan was provided. We stayed two weeks and loved it.

Rural Spain
Rural Spain with a road that was tricky. Be sure that your rental has enough power and whatever you do, don't get of the road! The instructions that were send to us came in handy: print them out and take them with you. The setting is beautiful, the swimmingpool looks over the valley. The casita has all that it needs and more: rice, sugar, coffee, herbs, oil, vinegear, ... It comes in handy since we weren't that keen on driving back down the mountain. The only downside was that we could think of was that their were a couple of rules to much about the (hot) water, the plants, check out and the beds, ... If you don't mind the road and want a place away from everything: this is it!

Tranquility among the olive groves
We thoroughly enjoyed our six night stay at the smallest of the casitas, Casita Galgo. The accommodation itself was clean, comfortable and extremely well-equipped. We especially appreciated the welcome package which was there for us after the long drive from Madrid. We thought that the fact that our living room was above our bedroom and accessible by an outside staircase might be problematic, but in fact we enjoyed having the two quite separate spaces. (Fortunately, the weather was perfect). We found the general location to be excellent for one day excursions to Grenada, Cordoba, Priego, Nerja and other destinations or for simply exploring the magnificent Andalusian countryside. We were also able to enjoy local walks through the tranquil olive groves and to listen to birdsong uninterrupted by the sounds of traffic or aircraft. Such peace! For the longer trips, Gillian and Marylynne were able to give us very useful driving directions and hints on the best places to park in the larger centres. Over the years, we have rented self-catering villas in various parts of the world, and would rate this as one of the best, so good in fact that we hope to return.

Rural Spain gem
The accommodation and hosts, Gillian and Marylynne, lived up to advanced billing and we had a very enjoyable stay at Cortijo las rosas. A great location, not just for strolls amongst the olive groves but for day visits to Iznajar, Antequerra, Priego de Cordoba and elsewhere. The recommendation to dine at Casa Piolas in Algarinejo was appreciated and one of the best meals we have ever had. Visiting during holy week was a bonus in this area and the Friday procession in nearby Iznajar is worth the visit. We have stayed in similar houses elsewhere and this was one of the nicest - well maintained with friendly and helpful hosts (the welcome pack is a nice idea). I would recommend this property to anyone.

Amazing location, suberb hospitality
I never spent a holiday in a scenery like here. With the nearest village at a 15 minute drive and the closest supermarket at a 30 minute drive you are obliged to relax and take it easy. And that was exactly what we needed. Although a first drive to the casita in the dark can be quite excited, you'll appreciate the peace and quiet surroundings once you get to discover the area by daylight. We had a wonderful holiday here, enjoying the swimming pool and our casita. We felt more than welcome and at home here, and that's to the account of the casita's owners Gillian and Marylynne. Rural Andalucia left a great impression, mostly due to it's never ending olive tree (olive trees as far as the eye can see!) ranches and rough landscapes.

Schöne Casitas in traumhafter ländlicher Lage

Charming and relaxing rural location.
We had 12 delightful days at Casita Galgo. The accommodation was comfortable and private. All the supporting amenities we required were available in our rooms. The pool was lovely with comfortable sun beds enjoying beautiful hill top views. Sitting out around the pool at night was a sight too with the star patterns clearly visible. Gillian and Marylynne were perfect hosts providing helpful information but not intrusive. They were readily available if required and nothing was too much trouble. Their comprehensive information pack included clear and pin point directions to cities, towns, restaurants etc. One particular gem of a restaurant being only a few km away and worth visiting for lunch or for an evening meal. There was much to see locally and within 60-90 minutes drive with the lovely cities of Cordoba and Granada within easy reach by car. Details of Spanish restaurants to visit in these cities were also provided. All in all a lovely place to stay, relax and sample authentic Spain.

hidden gem
We spent a lovely relaxing week here. The casita was charming-with lovely views over the hills, cool breezes and well equipped kitchen area. thoroughly recommend the welcome pack. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful, at hand if needed with useful tips about restaurants and places to visit. A beautiful spot to relax in away from the crowds. We found in difficult to tear ourselves away from the pool and tranquillity of the place.

What you see...
...is exactly what you get. Peace and quiet in beautiful, mountainous scenery. A sympathetically renovated typically white farmhouse in beautifully planted gardens, high up and away from it all some 9km from Iznajar. Everything has been considered by the thoughtful owners: decoration, comfort, cleanliness and ambience. The whole property is lovingly prepared and maintained to provide a tranquil retreat for guests. Nothing was too much trouble from travel information and bookings; daily discrete check-ins and local information. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Cortijo Las Rosas for those who want to avoid the mayhem of the coast.

“Idyllic Rural Oasis of Calm...”
One of the most pleasurable and 'magical' holiday experiences ever - this was our third visit to Cortijo Las Rosas in July over a 14 month period, which I think speaks volumes. Whatever time of year, the astounding owners have created a beautiful and idyllic rural haven in Andalucia, it's probably the most peaceful, tranquil and divine hideaway in Spain. The property boasts three superb and delightful casitas with excellent facilities that are situated in a breathtaking location cradled deep in the ancient olive groves that fill the region. It's spectacular by the exquisite swimming pool, which overlooks a stunning valley, particularly at night; either lit or unlit, just gazing under the vast myriad of stars and constellations dancing and winking at you. Gilly and Marylynne energetically and effortlessly manage Las Rosas, which is clearly lovingly well maintained and runs like clockwork. They are extremely attentive hosts who care deeply that you enjoy your time and stay; nothing is too much trouble! They're tremendous fun, so kind, thoughtful and utterly charming. We highly recommend a 'Spa Day' at Cortijo Las Rosas (or one-off treatment in Iznajar). We've done both! Relax while you have your 'treats' in the comfort of your Casita or private patio. Sarah Jackson is just wonderful and you definitely get more than a treatment - her kindness and healing qualities radiate through her work. Her deep tissue massage is beyond belief, but she also does full body massage and Indian head massage. There are more 'beauty' treatments such as facials, body exfoliation, pedicures, manicures, etc. too. I opted for the luxury holistic pedicure, which was incredible and simply didn't recognise my beautiful tootsies afterwards! Gilly and Marylynne's friendly advice is invaluable, both immersed in Spanish culture, they are extremely helpful and accommodating in guiding you at any given time; excursion, adventure, unique dining experiences, relaxation - appearing with guides, maps and further literature with an almost sixth sense! Right from the off, you know you're in very good hands. Las Rosas' location is a fantastic starting point to tour the Subbetica de Cordoba region; our day trips included Antequera, Cordoba, El Chorro, El Torcal nature reserve, Granada (the Albayzin), Priego de Cordoba and Zuheros. Cortijo Las Rosas is the perfect retreat, an enchanting and 'magical' place to relax and unwind. Roll on 2014 when we plan to revisit our Spanish friends.

A relaxing and peaceful two week
Past the lake, through olive groves, down the track and....there is Cortijo las Rosas in splendid isolation. Very nicely restored as traditional 'casitas' with a fig tree and lots of herbs and lavender. We really appreciated the warm welcome of Marylynne and Gillian. Their advices, humor and ofcourse the lovely Welcome Pack. They were very generous, thoughtful and helpfull hosts. Thank you for a relaxing and peaceful two weeks and a perfect location for sightseeing Granada, Cordoba and Seville. Thomas and Saskia (Holland)

A Rural Idyll
After spending several days in the city of Córdoba during the fiesta of Las Cruces de Mayo we chose to spend a relaxing five nights at Cortijo Las Rosas before returning to Córdoba to see the Patios. We were delighted with our choice. Gillian and Marylynne have created a rural idyll set in beautiful countryside with magnificent views of wooded valleys and olive groves and living right next door to nature. From the start the owners' attention to detail was very evident. We were sent excellent directions, the final part of the journey being a 10-15 meander along a winding road with spectacular views over the lake and the town of Iznájar perched high on a rocky outcrop above it. Marylynne greeted us on arrival and took the time to show us around the cortijo and gave a full explanation as to where everything could be found. We stayed in Casita Galgo which is simply and tastefully decorated, fully equipped for self-catering and spotlessly clean and comfortable; laundry facilities are also available on site. The entire property and pool are perfectly maintained and we loved the beautiful gardens and our courtyard filled with the scent of the Jasmine which was in full bloom. As we arrived on a Sunday, we could not have managed without the welcome pack which had everything needed for several breakfasts and light meals. Nothing was too much trouble. Gillian and Marylynne were keen to know our interests and happily offered suggestions on local walks, places of interest and loaned us books on bird watching and wildlife; there was also plenty of information in the casita about the locality. Iznájar town is well worth visiting however, the Cortijo was a perfect base for exploring Córdoba Province and the Subbetica National Park. The historic Priego de Córdoba is charming and the rock formations of El Torcal stunning - don’t miss! Likewise, the Cueva de los Murciélagos above the town of Zuheros with its bats, stalactites, stalagmites and drawings and artefacts from the Neolithic and Palaeolithic periods is incredible; check the timetable beforehand. The lagoon at Fuente de Piedra is a birdwatchers paradise where we were lucky to see flamingos. Eating out locally was a little disappointing but evening meals and wine by the pool, surrounded by birdsong and watching the stars come out one-by-one were a joy (no light pollution). We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, the only thing that could have made it better would have been to have stayed longer and we would love to return.

The perfect rural getaway.
After searching for the perfect rural getaway my partner and I came across Cortijo Las Rosas. Nestled in rolling olive groves the Cortijo offers the discerning visitor peace and tranquility and you can feel the stress of the daily 9-5 slog melting away as soon as you arrive. The drive to the Cortijo offers some spectacular views of lake Iznajar, the surrounding countryside and Iznajar itself. Our accommodation was the gorgeous Casita Galgo which was tastefully decorated and had it's own courtyard which was perfect for those evening BBQ's. If lounging around the pool gets too much for you we found the Cortijo the perfect springboard to go off exploring the surrounding areas, and there was lots of information provided to help us decide where to go. Gilly, Marylynne and Steve made our stay a memorable one and we would like to thank you all very much for your warm welcome and expert knowledge of the local places of interest. A big thanks to Steve for taking us out on a bike ride along the Via Verde. We will definitely be coming back to Cortio Las Rosas. We loved it!

Haven of Peace and Tranquillity
My husband and I stayed in Casita Galgo at Cortijo las Rosas for two weeks in May this year. What a wonderful place - we arrived intending to carry out our usual marathon of sightseeing, including plans to visit Granada, Cordoba and Seville, however the location was so beautiful and it was so relaxing sitting peacefully by the pool in the sun, that we stayed at the Cortijo for most of the time. The property is set in the midst of olive groves on the side of a hill and from your seat on the patio you can look out at the view over the pool watching the birds until well into the evening. Everything was spotlessly clean and well maintained and Gillian and Marylynne were perfect hosts, doing everything possible to ensure we enjoyed our stay. They had plenty of advice about local restaurants and attractions and were always on hand to answer questions as well as providing lovely little touches such as the fresh sweet peas and cherries which appeared at our door. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to an exceptional restaurant about 20 minutes away - Piolas in Algaranejo - where we had a superb 10 course tasting menu, the quality of which rivalled anything we have ever eaten and which was prepared and presented in the most unusual and innovative manner. Another highlight was a visit to El Torcal natural park, close to Antequera, which is an outstanding example of a Karst topography with a most dramatic and unusal landscape to drive around or take a walk. Overall this has to be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable holidays we have experienced and Gillian and Marylynne have set a benchmark at Cortijo las Rosas which will be difficult to exceed.

Paradise in Andalucia
My husband and I stayed in Casita Galgo (the smallest of the three casitas) for three weeks - and loved every minute of it. The apartment was very nicely decorated and very well equipped. There were nice little suprises like very good olive oil from the nearyby cooperativa. We had beautiful views into the olive groves, a lovely little patio and a wood-oven for cooler evenings. The pool is divine! Apparently there were other people who were not so happy with the track that goes down to the house (which is a little bit rough), but we had no problem with our hired car (a Fiat). If you like tranquillity, beauty and lavender-scented air, this is the place for you. Marylynne and Gillian do everything possible to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They provide you with very useful tipps on parking- and sightseeing-possibilites, good restaurants in the area etc. without ever intruding into your privacy. The only problem with our stay was that we couldn't stay longer... Very highly recommended!
