Romantic weekend getaway near the Blue Ridge. Our 200 year-old historic cottage is in the rural village of Batesville, just 20 minutes from University of Virginia (UVA) and Charlottesville. We are convenient to wineries, local hiking and Skyline Drive. The cottage has privacy, a lovely screened porch for outdoor dining, kitchen with utensils and is decorated with antiques and local art. There grounds feature a large private garden with sitting areas by the Batesville creek.
The space
Guests say "Amazing place! Would stay over and over again!" Our historic cottage is more than 200 years old with three floors. The kitchen and living room are open plan with lots of windows and light. A screened eating porch faces the grounds and creek. The master bedroom is on the second floor with creek views. Please note that the third floor is a loft-style bedroom with two twin beds, suitable for children ages 9+. There is one bathroom in the cottage, accessible through the master bedroom. There is very little privacy between these rooms, so this may not be suitable for two couples, unless you know each other very well and want to flip for the master bed. We recycle, use green cleaning and laundry supplies, and minimize the use of plastics by refilling dish, lotion and shampoo containers. We use compostable trash bags, and offer canvas bags for shopping trips. Brita filtered water pitchers are provided for our Blue Ridge water shed area well, so no need to bring bottled water.
Guest access
Guests have the whole cottage to themselves, as well as run of the lawn and garden areas. Enjoy sitting by the creek and relaxing in our private garden areas. Guests are asked to share the large garden areas and respect the privacy of other guests in the main house next door.
Other things to note
Please park in the space in front of the cottage on Plank Road. Across the street, The Batesville Market is a 100-year old historic country store. They have basic groceries, convenience items and a deli serving delicious food with an emphasis on local and organic/sustainable food. They also have live music every Saturday night, featuring some of the most talented musicians in Central Virginia.
