Ashton Retreat - Perfect Adelaide Hills Getaway

Ashton Retreat is an opportunity to get away and relax in the picturesque Adelaide Hills. The Retreat is a modern self-contained unit with kitchen/dining and lounge areas, with separate bathroom & bedroom with comfy Queen bed. Just outside is a private patio situated under a beautiful Linden tree overlooking our 15 acre property. Close to Cleland, Morialta and Horsnell Gully Conservation Parks with their many walks, and the Heysen Trail passes the property. The perfect location for the Tour Downunder and a great escape from the City Festivals of Mad March. Local wineries are easily accessible - its a short drive to the Barossa and Eden Valleys to the north, and McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Peninsula to the south. Just 20 minutes to the city centre. The Ashton Retreat suits couples looking to take a break for a weekend or longer, or singles and couples looking to base themselves close to the City or Hills for longer stays to catch up with friends and family, attend conferences, play golf, or use it as a base to explore the region. Guests receive complimentary tea, coffee, milk, sugar, fruit and flowers and all linen is supplied. Free wi-fi is also available.

The kitchen features an electric oven, gas cooktop with rangehood, microwave, refrigerator and plenty of bench space for food preparation. The area is heated by a petite combustion heater which will quickly heat the area in the depths of winter. Welcoming comfy lounge chairs await with LCD TV and DVD player available. The queen size bed offers a private valley view, and the bathroom features a shower, wash basin and toilet. Outside in the sheltered garden, enjoy an al fresco setting with lovely views. The Retreat has a minimal environmental footprint - rainwater is harvested on the property, wastewater is treated on the property, a recycling facility is available and a roof mounted solar array feeds energy into the grid. Minimum stay 2 nights. No pets or children (non-walking babies excepted).

Summer in the Hills

In summer, the Adelaide Hills are always a few degrees cooler than the city - enjoy all the benefits of being close to the centre of the city while experiencing the quiet rural setting of the Ashton Retreat. Explore the Hills and beyond - Clare, the Barossa and McLaren Vale are all within a comfortable one days driving distance. For nature lovers, the Retreat offers many regular and irregular visitors - kangaroos, koalas, echidnas and microbats feeding at sunset - as well as a huge range of native birds in habitating the space - from weebills flitting about in the shrubs to eagles gliding overhead.

Garden Getaway
We enjoyed our four night stay at Ashton retreat. We found it a welcoming place to relax and enjoy the established extensive gardens around the retreat. The little touches made it special-a full fruit bowl, fresh milk , a variety of breakfast cereals, fresh coffees and a variety of teas etc. Kate and Andy were very welcoming - - thank you for the delicious homemade berry jam and fresh homegrown rhubarb. We are looking forward to returning in the near future.

Very friendly and helpful hosts who check in on me regularly to see if all was ok or if I needed anything. Beautiful surroundings, close to the places I needed to be. Comfortable, homely accommodations. Fantastic experience...would definitely go back and stay again.

Mostly a comfortable stay
Overall impression was pretty good. Bed is comfortable, but no bedside tables. Great water pressure in the shower but water escapes the shower very easily. Recommend bringing an extra towel to clean up water on the floor. The canara and blankets are a great touch. I really wish there was curtains or blinds on the windows (there is a shade blind on the bedroom window). One morning, there were people where in the yard when I was showering. Blinds would have made us feel more comfortable. The host was easy to talk to, and the garden was stunning.

A Great Getaway
Although we had plenty of places to go during our stay, it would have been just as easy and pleasant to spend the time wandering through the grounds. Best home tomato planting I've ever seen.

Idyllic getaway with every comfort
The photos don’t do this place justice. It is so beautiful, both indoors and out. Spacious, comfortable, and with every utensil and pantry item you can think of. Loved the flowers, fruit, milk, chocs, cereal, and generous supplies of tea and coffee. High quality bed linens and towels. Easy drive to the city or to Hahndorf, the Barossa etc. Everything is within easy distance but I felt miles away from everything. Stunning garden, and the local views whilst driving around are incredible. This is such a comfortable place to stay and a perfect base for exploration or just for staying in and relaxing and soaking up the garden views. Lots of great advice provided about the birds that inhabit the garden, and about local eateries, sites, wineries etc. Looking forward to a return visit here.

Stunning property and friendly owners!
This place was amazing!!! The views were stunning, the owners Andrew and Kate were very friendly as well as their beautiful dog Nell and were happy for a conversation when our paths crossed at the property. I loved every minute and it was the perfect place to rest, relax and recover. Very quiet and was so lovely to sit outside under the trees in the mornings and listen to the birds. I will definitely be back and I can’t recommend this place enough!

Absolutely superb
I cannot recommend this property highly enough. I spent five weeks here working on a writing project. The property is beautifully located and superbly set up with everything you need except for a washing machine (but there is a great little laundromat in nearby Bridgewater). The wood fire is wonderful on cold winter nights. Kate and Andrew were really friendly and helpful whenever I needed something, but otherwise gave me heaps of space and privacy. I will be coming back :)
