Wrest Park: Leg 'o' Mutton Lake This lake, in the formal landscaped gardens of Wrest Park, used to have a semi-circular extension on its south side which gave it its name. If you look very carefully at the pattern in the grass on the right side of the lake the old shape can just about be made out. This semi-circular section was surrounded by a small grassy amphitheatre. The change has been so recent that the current Ordnance Survey 1:10,000 scale online mapping shows it while the 1:25,000 scale shows the original shape. Beyond the lake is the bowling green with its close-clipped yew arches. From a Geograph point of view the 509000 Easting gridline passes through the lake so the far end is in the TL0935 grid square rather than this one.
